The best upgrades for home tracks are aftermarket controllers and power supplies. The OEM parts work okay but if you want to truely enjoy the hobby it is highly recommended that you upgrade.

Digital controllers will make a bigger difference in your driving experience than any other single thing I can think of. I race with several clubs in my area. There are one or two hold-outs that still use Prama Turbo's but everyone else has moved to electronic units.

I like Professor Motor controllers on my AFX track. Power supply will be a must on my next track build.

They change the game big time, I can't go back to the set controllers.

Okay I'm just starting to build me a H.O. slot Car layout so I'm curious to know what does the controller that you are talking about actually do and how do you find out how many Ohms your car has

You need a multi meter, there are some videos that demonstrate how to do it but when you buy cars on the aftermarket they will tell you what the ohms of the motor is.
The controllers that come with the sets have a resistor that have a set ohm rating "120" for current AFX. You can find some aftermarket controllers that have a range these are examples (not exact) 90-120 ohms or 35-55 ohms etc... An electronic controller does not have that limitation so you can adjust them to work with the car you are using.

Thanks for the feedback. I made this before I learned how to increase the volume in the software.
