I miss full-service stations! In fact, I've sworn if I became wealthy enough to buy a gas station I would make it have full service (optional of course, but definitely available! In crappy weather, it is really really nice to have someone pump your gas, wash your windshield, check the tire pressure, check oil, and top off the washer fluid! I'd pay extra for that and I'm not "rich"!

In Oregon, we do not tip people for pumping the gas. The government in its wisdom has determined that we would all burn down the gas stations if we could pump our own gas! Just like new Jersey. Former manager myself. Gas stations do breaks as step out for a quick cigarette between customers for a minute or two at a time. Non smokers go outside for a couple of minutes and call it a "fresh air break" but if you are working alone especially during daytime hours you may or may not ever get a chance to step outside for a minute. Years of that line of work is why I became a vapor because I could run in the back room and hit a vape more often and not worry about someone smelling smoke or anything. lol

Fun Fact: NJ is the only state where it's illegal to pump your own gas. NJ has sales tax. Tipping is not common. I don't know that gas is particularly more expensive here but it is a really expensive state overall because of NYC and Philly. With Oregon, only parts of the state are illegal and during certain times.

New Jersey is the same as Oregon… we don’t tip either usually. Sometimes it’s nice to have them pump, but other times it’s annoying because they’re slow so people will get out and do it, especially if you’re from outta state

All my coworkers have 30 minutes automatically taken out of their 8 hour shift for lunch every day, I know the owner and had my time set where no time is taken out unless I clock out because I almost never take a lunch.
I'm there to make money, not take breaks ;).
