      @@Will-fs7oz I think that's just part of being an entertainer, and he seems to play up certain things so they seem more interesting and get people looking into them. Like the egg story he told in this podcast or his take on education, it can come across as trying to seem smarter but he just wants to get people thinking by using big words.

      Edit: But Neil doesn't say anything people don't know lol. He's not interesting and thinks he is.
      Fun typos nonetheless
      -Additional note after coming back a year later: Anyone who finds NDT interesting is either young, and into science(Bravo!), or has low standards for what they find to be interesting. He's very literally a public talking head that's meant to be a bridge for the scientifically inept. However I'm a carpenter, and I still find his hubris around basic science annoying, albeit fundamental.

    Mr. Tyson, 1. what problems did you see in how we handled COVID 19 (lockdowns etc) and 2. how do we explain the cardiovascular disease increase since 2020?

    • @brianeych
      @brianeych 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Yeah, his "social contract" argument really stuck with me anytime he pops up now. There will always be outliers regarding any social movement, no matter how practical but science and statistics are not on Tyson's side regarding the vaccine. This was a time where the "rebellious" people actually played it safe, Tyson wholly trusted an experiment and still believes it was technically a success. In this interview he went on the same tirade and saying that five times as many people would have died because most the people dying were unvaccinated with comorbidities. He can recognize that propaganda is deployed often and says scientists are trained to be skeptical but still winds up making the same arguments regarding COVID-19 and the vaccines. How can, in 2024, we are still learning things about COVID-19 but in 2021 vaccines and MRNA gene therapies were rolled out worldwide but people still walk around any issues that arose from many people that developed problems after they got vaccinated. The same variant, likely the first, that spread around the world was the same one by the time the vaccines were ready for a novel disease. The people that didn't take or encourage people to take an experimental shot aren't anti-science, they're like Tyson is on sending a gerbil through a teleportation device or Mars. He's not a bad dude but his arguments regarding the jabs won't convince anyone who hasn't taken them yet, especially if they've witnessed adverse reactions. Many doctors, who took it, are now coming to terms with the vaccines, whether it's adverse reactions or the suppression of effective treatments because EUA can't be used for an entire population if there is a treatment that works readily available. Many things have come out since this conversation but I suspect Neil is still saying the same shit on the topic. I like his approach to many things and he seems like a good guy but he really missed the mark on that.

    I never expected the best love life advice to come from Neil deGrasse Tyson. Nobody else is asking him that type of stuff. Literally choose 3-5 fundamental things that you look for in a partner; give each thing its own cordinates: and then multiply them to get volume number. The main reasoning is if you choose 3 any 1 of those 3 could fade with time so you need to determine the volume of example : Attractiveness/ ability to raise kids-physical love life/ kindess- empathy/ willingness or drive to work or do something productive. that is a 4d thing I thought of.

    this is the most amazing conversation I have ever witnessed. Never before have i witnessed two brilliant people trying fiercely to engage each other but COMPLETELY miss each other's cues at every turn. Theo was hilarious while Neil was factually insightful, yet neither seemed to get on each other's page, yet the conversation made me laugh and think deeply, somehow simultaneously. Fantastic

      Definitely picked up on that early on and it’s unfortunate imo because it made for a frustrating listen. A lot of the blame is on NDT, though, who, when he’s on a specific train of thought, does not like to veer off course or go on a tangent. He wants to get his point across and fully explain his point in the exact way in which he’s rehearsed it in his mind. Theo is an off the cuff comedian who wants to riff and come up with funny bits and is more eager to listen and bounce ideas off of the other person.

I’m loving your question of « nature vs nurture » and Tyson is saying how its the parents who force their kids to loose their curiosity. This is surely the truth in many cases, but in sooooo many cases, and from what I’ve seen having had 2 kids of my own, I have to say that our school system is the main influence in forcing them to sit and shut up. @@ggh_-ts6pn if you listen to old NDT on JRE episodes they were like this one with Theo. But on the recent JRE episodes NDT appears to have a political agenda. Which corresponds with some of the political actions and statements Neil has pushed in the last couple years. Like Bill Nye and his obscene agendas in recent years.

    Watching this immediately after the Bill Burr episode and...wow, the contrast in chemistry is crazy. A podcast with these two would be incredible. Theo's natural curiosity for everything and Neil's answers play off of each other so well. Inspiring and hilarious at the same time.

    Hands down the best podcast I've watched in a while. Hilarious, educational, heartwarming. This one has it all! These two men have excellent chemistry and I hope Neil comes back again soon.

      Exactly you can tell Theo is smarter than him, mf tries way too hard, then tries to push the vaccine and mask LOL which makes everything he says irrelevant, and saying that as a vaccinated person unfortunately

      I think so too. There are moment he is making a joke and Neil didn't even catch it.
