- I never planned on sharing this. I kept it in my archive for 3 years. It's a phone recording and was never intended to be released. But there are no other recordings of it to my knowledge, and the world is so desperate for laughs- especially today, after Norm's untimely passing. It feels appropriate to share now.
Live at a crowded table near the stage, at the once great Brea Improv, in Brea California. This was Norm at the end of his brilliant 4 decade comedy run. Still in the sunset of his prime. In 2018, when real stand up comedy was still allowed and at it's peak. Many straight-forward, unpredictable and indirect comic geniuses have roamed this Earth, but Norm was the best.
The more I learn about this Norm fella, the more I care for him

Im so grateful that the internet has become a living eulogy to greats like Norm. He woild be so happy to know that he goes on touching the hearts of old and new fans alike.
Cheers to the true fans who had these recordings and sat on them as not to screw up jokes norm was working out. Lots of these are coming out after his death. I got to see him in 2019 and most of the material was brand new
Thanks man. That's 100% my thought process on this. Same with bands. I won't release anything I record until after their tour, if at all. The few times I've recorded comedy sets was for my own analysis after the show.

Strangely, I feel closer to Norm than many people I’ve met and know IRL. Make God laugh Norm, RIP.
That’s how I feel. I’m genuine surprised how sad I’ve been at this passing. I don’t get it, I don’t know him, never met him etc. I’ve examined this non stop for this last month and my only conclusion is that Norm was so alive his passing it’s just the most brutal reminder of our own mortality and how transient it all is. The laughs will last forever but he’s gone, and my crude brain is struggling to reconcile this.
I think norm is a douche for making all the best jokes then dying
Maybe you need to address that. Perhaps you have been hurt too much or perhaps you still have to learn to toughen up. Whatever it is, the world is crazy don’t be afraid, go crazier!

Hilarious! His Cosby jokes were so on point. I'm obsessed with Norm. First Celebrity death to make me cry like my dog died. I couldn't imagine a world without Norm.
Listening to that chick laughing helplessly through the set was a total highlight; chef's kiss!
I never get tired of the LSD purple dog psychiatrist bit. Every incarnation makes me smile or laugh.
It's funny as hell, and kinda heartbreaking too to see how many death/sickness jokes he made at that time, even talking about his funeral or the possibility of being a burden to others... God dammit Norm. What a gift to humanity you are.
He'd done the bit about being a burden to others more than a decade prior on Letterman. So if it's any consolation, it wasn't a new concern for him - it had been with him for a while.
Plus it was a good comedy bit. What's more universal than death?

He was just different, in a very good way. Hard to totally describe his greatness. Cried. I don't do it much. But this loss hit kinda hard.
Norm had the best Cosby impression. He sounded nothing like him while also exactly imitating the way he talks.

thank you for this..ive seen him in Brea, i wish i recorded him because he did the material i was hoping he would do, which no other comedian i know has touched..I am disabled and he did it while i was clearly in the crowd!!..I love you Norm my Uncle from another grandmother... i cannot express my appreciation for whoever uploaded this.. this is a great show. i saw him in 88 or 89 then about 4 years ago. awesome both times. i'd rather say that than I saw the Stones
in the 80s it was just various yuk yuk comics on an ottawa campus. that was lucky

Norm is in top form and all, but I think I'm in love with that girl just from her laugh. And I guarantee I'm not the only one. Most of you on here all have your own mental image of what she looks like, too.

I always liked his weekend update on SNL. I really started to follow him when Covid broke out. Heard about everything he ever did. All the letterman episodes and Dennis miller appearances..... Norm was a true genius !!!!!!!!!

I think this is the show I was at. Only time I got to see him live. Maybe not the same night, I don't remember if he played more than one night.
always two nights, friday saturday, I was there too. Not sure which night.
I got to see his last show before covid, he had some greats jokes even about that
@@sc2starkey I can't remember what night I was at now. I'll have to find the ticket somewhere. I got all the way to the parking lot almost, then remembered I didn't bring my tickets. I was in a rush to get out the door, finally got my sister in law to watch my kid. First time we got to go out by ourselves in literally Years. I was worried they wouldn't let me in late, but I still turned around and raced back home. Luckily I didn't live very far, La Habra. I came straight back and I guess I was wrong, they still let us in. Thank God there was some other guy opening for Norm. I forgot who now. I was over 20 minutes late, but still didn't miss Norm. Had a pretty good meal and watched the best show. I was in the back though, I wish I had recorded just the audio anyway, it was too far back for video.
always thought of himself as some club comic but didnt realize he was lightning in a bottle. when Chappelle, CK, and Seinfeld say you do something no one else can, you may be the greatest of all time.

Depending on what is in Nothing Special, I would say the 2018 and 2019 live crowd sets will compliment what he ended up recording for posterity. It's great that everyone who recorded these sets kept them and didn't stick them out before Norm recorded anything.

I wish I'd known norm in life. To be honest didn't know much about him. My son was a fan before he died. Such a funny man. Quick jokes are ok but the stories he tells are so funny and the oj stuff. Love you norm

There's no joke to the bread part, it's just a setup for suddenly remembering when you're doing something else.
