I was researching for months and was jumping inbetween the options Daily 😂 While watching Hours of Reviews. Then an amazing deal became available on Amazon so I went with the s5ii and I couldn’t be happier. I love the usability compared to Sony and after the 3.0 update the AF is amazing - which was my only fear compared to Sony. Also the LUMIX feels like it can withstand weather better, which is very important for my use case in the nature.

@@kostistau I think you wound up with an amazing camera, and I know it will serve you well. And I think that’s a great advantage of TH-cam is the ability to do research, but we have to also watch ourselves from just buying stuff and never being happy with what we have. Not really digging in to use the gear to its full potential. Thanks so much for coming through, I really appreciate it.

I got the Sony FX30 for the autofocus. As someone who mostly films alone, or even if I use my camera for a project, I am the guy behind the camera. At least for setting it up. So, AF can be really helpful. Now that LUMIX cameras, like the S5ii, have excellent autofocus, I am drawn back to them. In large part because LUMIX cameras have much better skin tones. When I shoot in SLog3 on my FX30, that Log profile makes me look a little yellow. Which is strange, because when I choose a non-Log profile, like Cine4, my skin tones look great. Now, with the S5ii, I am looking to move back to LUMIX. Especially now that their stabilization is almost gimbal like in some modes. Plus, the S5ii is full frame, so I get more dynamic range and better colors. In the meantime, my FX30 is still an excellent camera. I might even keep it if and when I get an S5ii/x.

The FX30 sounds like an amazing camera to me. I LOVED my a6400 when I was using it. I needed better stabilization for my last film, and so I decided to upgrade instead of running around with my Weebill S all the time. Pain in the ass. Full frame didn't really make all that much of a difference for me, but 10 bit did because I always shoot in log, and my a6400 was 8 bit. Grading is SO MUCH BETTER in 10 bit. However..... Still, when I look back at my videos with the Sony, they look beautiful, and so, at the end of the day, the IBIS made my film a lot more convenient to shoot, and that was worth the upgrade, and now I'm in love with Lumix overall, but I think that's just because that's what I own, and I don't feel limited in any kind of way at all, with both the S5 and the GH5. I'm CERTAIN, that if I already had a Sony with good stabilization, like the FX30 or the FX3, I would still have one of those cameras. For me, it's just about being able to make the story without feeling like I'm always feeling obstacles forcing me to find workarounds. I think APSC is awesome, especially since there are so many amazing lenses to choose from, and the FX30 has so many other advantages, I think you're in a great place and even if you do decide to get an s5iix, you'll have added more awesomeness to your arsenal. Oh, and as far as skin tones... I'm not really a stickler with that kind of stuff. They all look great to me, unless I underexpose too much. I like to expose on the darker side, so I have to be careful, and so if I get too dark with a shot... Then it can be bad, at least with Lumix, but... I just make sure I get enough light on my face and I'm good.

@@RockWILK I think what helps newer cameras these days are the high resolution sensors. The FX30 has a 6K sensor downsampled to 4K. Which actually helps reduce the prominence of noise in the footage. Because of new tech, sensor size isn't as important as it used to be. Only in depth of field and getting more bokeh is where full frame helps out. But, overall quality is virtually the same between full frame and crop sensors. But, for me, the skin tones in LUMIX have dramatically improved over the years. In the end, most cameras nowadays are pretty close together quality wise. For me, LUMIX is more filmmaking centric, with Shutter Angle always being there.
Speaking of shutter angle, Sony just dropped a firmware update adding shutter angle (and other features) to the FX30. However, the firmware broke other features. For some reason, I get an error telling me I can't shoot in 4K DCI without a CF Express card. Which is strange since 4K DCI is just a change in aspect ration. It has nothing to do with file size or bit rate. I am communicating via email with Sony right now, because they don't understand why I'm getting that error either. They've also pulled down the firmware update because other people are experiencing issues. One person said the update broke their autofocus. More to come. Thanks for your content.

@@AllThingsFilm1 so many people also say that the older sensors have better image quality with regards to HighLighT rolloff and things like that. More “cinematic”. lol. If you have a great story, any of these cameras look amazing. Sorry to hear about the Sony glitch, I’m sure they’ll figure that out, they’re a collection of geniuses over there.

S5 auto focus falls apart in lowlight, in bright sunshine, no problems. I would say decide what you want to shoot first, then pick the camera and system that can do it. Maybe rent something to shoot with before you commit $ Buy used from a reputable source like KEH or MPB (in europe). Thanks.

@@steveschnetzler5471 Yes! Totally agree. Low light never is good for the S5 and autofocus. Also, the S5 won't track you very well, but for talking head stuff it's perfectly fine. For me personally it really doesn't matter because I'm working with vintage lenses and anamorphic lenses, so it's really not even on my mind ever. I'm just a manual focus shooter. And I always recommend renting gear before buying it, although a lot of people rent so much that at the end of the day they turn around and realize they should have just bought something. :-) Even rentals can get expensive. Commitment issues. :-)
