One of the best restoes I have seen and tastefully finished. Exactly how would have done it, if I were a young man, but a lot of hard work I know. Thanks for sharing. I get my 2CV next year, or rather a box of bits, my first Citroen of any kind, not as hard as this.
A very well done job, take a bow sir! I really like the way you have not restored it too much and removed all its time worn character. Takes a lifetime to get this look and like to see it preserved where it does not need to be replaced or restored.
I owned DSs and IDs back in the 60s, (in Canada) and a friend had a 2CV car, which I drove a little, What I appreciate a lot on this resto is the original production front end & grille. They should have kept with it, as it has the real 1930s feel, and in harmony with the rest of the body lines. It looks a lot like a scaled down Voisin Aerodyne. Nice job!
Wow.....you did a wonderful job there...obviously you are very experienced. I love the fact that you left this old sweetheart in her old dress....I wish you many happy years with this little dream car.Cheers
Excellent work of recovery of this car. When the video is at 9:58 in the photo the shadow gives the impression that it was painted light gray on the hood and below it in a dark gray or grayish blue tone ... would look beautiful. Big hug and best regards ... :)
I like that its not over restored , I drive my 1950 Mercury Truck with a little surface rust and a few dents. People like it better than the perfect hot rodded trucks.
Love your videos. I like the way you are not restoring to factory new, and showing they have had a life, and a life going forward. I like old french cars very simple in design, but had good engineering underneath such as suspension that was quite ahead of its times back then. My first car was a Renault 9 and have had french cars ever since, picking up a new 2017 Model Megane in the next few days. Keep up the good work saving classics for a future generation.
Great job!!! I just love these little cars! The simplicity of the vehicle is awesome, and they're so engaging to drive. Thank you for sharing this restoration - a job very well done without it becoming a show piece, but rather a working everyday car.
Fun video. Thanks for the show. Great job getting a classic back on the road. There or in the U.S. or any old cars around the world need a little respect.
It was fun to watch, love how you repaired all the rusted spots the way you did. But some people like that you kept the old look which is nice, as for me I would like to see the whole thing painted one color. There's no other like it so why not.... amazing work though super impressed....
That was good fun to watch, love how you kept the car's character, somehow I just like this kind of restoration better than a full respray making the care "to new". But that all depends on what car it's done to. Merci bien !!!
I have a total a noob question: would be make more sense to media blast the body to remove all the old paint and rust? Thanks for the video. I love these old ordinary cars that most people wouldn't necessarily spend the time or money to restore but you are giving them new life, and you are doing it so much love.
Today’s gospel lesson was Jesus bringing Lazarus back from the dead. You guys made the2CV rise from the rusty dead. Very impressive, difficult fabrication work.😮
Fabulous job, Love the 'Deux Chapeaux' had 2 Dyanes, most fun you can have on 4 wheels, would love another one. Great Vid, Thank You very much. Best Regards Paul M
We at Argentina uses to change the chasis when is heavely rusted, Is a mad´s job but it gives awesome results. As advantage your car is much more original than any other whith a brand new chasis and much less work hours are needed. Beyond the way you took to do the job, results are awesome. two cilynder for ever, pale ;)
It is easier and much faster to change the whole chassis but the price is quite high so I have always preferred to restore mine. Also, the rust is always located on the same parts and I find it a shame to throw away if the rest of it is absolutely fine.
The Old Timer Garage team has shown the dedicated mechanic's procedures for achieving a successfully restored 6 decades old impossible to repair van. Besides containing rusting & corrosion, restoration projects for vintage cars should be encouraged more often worldwide for clearing out the overload in parking spaces.
Sweet little truck! But what’s sweeter is the awesome music that you chose for the background! While the genre of music is consistent with the age of the vehicle ,it totally misses the ethos that this truck puts out; it’s like the truck is trying ....so ....hard! Nice restoration, though. Now this little beast can terrorize the French countryside roads the way it was meant to!
I'd like to own one of these. If I were rich I'd like to have a collection of "people's cars" from around the world. Like the VW Bug, Fiat 500, Mini, etc. My first new car was a Kia Rio which at the time was the cheapest car available on the US market. I already had an appreciation of small, simple cars but owning that car really honed my appreciation even further.
This is one lovely restoration job! I had the same problem with the bonnet hinge on my 1990 2CV6, You can actually buy a new bonnet hinge plus the back part just to weld in. I did exactly that, but I had to weld it outdoors and every time I started the Danish weather came and made it a hell for me, at the end I send it off to a workshop to get it finished.
Nice job... I love 2CV's... I spent an equal amount of time restoring my '78 Ford Econoline work van... not as classy as this... but it will haul a ton of firewood without blinking... It still needs work... but... old vehicles always do...
my friend in France is also doing a truckette :) plus your number plates are great : here we are given number plates, lately with "stickers" to show we paid to the state
USA. all states do similar things. they did have metal tabs. Illinois did issue new plates every year until they also did stickers. from Rock Island Illinois. some states make plates showing where the plate is from. In Iowa, they put the county name across the bottom so Davenport shows Scott county...
It looks like an original car, not a style exercise or show exhibit. Personally I much prefer them that way. Respect to you guys for doing all that metalwork. Some people would have looked at this car and thought that it was too far gone. Chapeau, et bonne continuation. C'est pour quand la restauration d'une 203? :oP
I believe they were sold for a while in the 1950's. In the late 1950's or early 1960's the 2CV did not meet certain US safety standards like brakes on all 4 wheels and Citroen decide to completely withdraw from the US market.
The dates are correct but these cars do have brakes of four wheels though. They must have been withdrawn from the US market for a different reason. I guess maybe the body was not strong enough (very thin metal sheets). Just a guess though :)
I saw one of these being driven in Newport beach CA back in the 80s. The kid got way more attention the the Ferraris, Lamborghinis, and Rolls that populate the streets. Cool little project
The first time I saw a ‘Flying Dustbin’ was in Cherbourg, one rainy night in ‘63. Love at first sight, although I must say I heard it before I saw it!! ( It came round the corner of a Cobbled street on its ear)
@@OldTimerGarage some day it will be an honor to have people like you in my city, and you will find in me a friend in here, you can find me on facebook, same photo and same name, greetings again from Querétaro México
Well done, i cant understand why people abadoned a classic cars and they got broken. Well done, guys, it looks like even more it cames out from factory. people most stop dumbing a classic cars since they are beutiful syled and one of best cars ever made.
Good job,Enjoyed the music with the work, pretty cool brakes built into transmission. Looks fun to drive and pictures and scenery of really nice. Enjoy. May need alittle work same on ceiling, fantastic :)

Thank you for rescuing this. It seems like most people don't care about such things anymore. 😞
Great job , love these little corrugated metal cars
You created a vehicle out of a chunk of rust, very nice job
A very well done job, take a bow sir! I really like the way you have not restored it too much and removed all its time worn character. Takes a lifetime to get this look and like to see it preserved where it does not need to be replaced or restored.

Fantastic. I like that you did not do a "show car" restoration. Restored to be used. Excellent.

Perhaps not the most preferred vehicle to restore, but very good job with the subtitles and details. This was the best I've seen so far.
Thank you
Great job! I’m so glad you rescued and restored that beautiful 2CV.
Thanks for the nice comment.

I had no idea these were 2cv Vans absolute classic, great job.
My deepest respect for this 2CV-project. Beautiful result. (PS: I drive one myself)
Wow I'd never think of a car as a literal box on wheels! They have so much cargo space!
These are great little trucks, I have a ‘57 Truckette and the 425 cc engine really does a fair job of getting to 50 mph on the flat.
what a talented engineer, thats amazing. would love a 2cv again. had a couple of them, one of the best utility vehicles ever produced
lookoutleo agreed 😀
Very cool! You don't get to see those in the States, thank you for saving a piece of history!

right, it´s a shame drop a whole chassis just for a little parts rusted.

In 2001 I drove one on the autobahn from Amsterdam to Dortmund with handbrake only. Very interesting trip !

Nice van it would make a great daily driver for a small business
Aesthetically, it seems closer to the first cars of the 20th century than to current cars!
2 absolute Gems would love to find one and be able to afford to do a proper job on a total restoration
Nice work!!!! doing same on Citroen 3CV

What a car... 😄
Yes this is very true.
A perfect vehicle for Madagascar.
Fantastico trabajo, mis felicitaciones.
Nice job, well done, 2cv is always classic. The paint job was to austere for me but, as a utility vehicle it maybe appropriate.
Sehr schön das die Seele des Autos erhalten blieb.
Fabulous job, boss! That car/fourgonnette is almost as old as I am! :-)

These cars are so lovely, just like the Renault 4 like i use to have in the seventies!!
Yes I can't disagree with that :)
Didn't see the rust removal technique ? I have same to do on mine. Can you help pls ?
