Thank youuu for the 9 new books I’m going to be buying. You also solidified my opinion that I won’t like If we were villains and I loooove your voice 💗💗💗💗💗
@@katerinareem period power, the obesity code, fresh water for flowers, cleo & Frankenstein (really looking forward to this), open water, the death of Ivan Ilyich, love in the time of cholera ( I had sworn to myself I was never going to read it 😭, just based on the title), the panic years, & why we eat too much 😅😅😅😅
Ooh we have similar tastes in books. I've read 30/65 of these, although in different years. Some of my favorites are The Remains of the Day, Our Wives Under the Sea, the seasonal quartet by Ali Smith, Metamorphosis, and The Vegetarian, Things We Lost in the Fire, and the Neapolitan novels by Elena Ferrante (they get progressively better)
30/65 !!! victoria that is wild, we are basically the same person lol and omg so glad to hear the neapolitan novels get better as they go on, so excited to read the rest of the series now
Wow - who gave you access to my bookshelf/my kindle? Never hit subscribe so fast, I can't believe you've read so may similar books to me or ones that are on my TBR - can't wait to get stuck into the ones I have not read yet
Oh and if you liked Things we lost in the fire you will LOVE The dangers of smoking in bed which was actually published after TWLITF but written before :)
we clearly have an amazing taste in books hehe and ah yes I read the dangers of smoking in bed in 2022 and it led me to things we lost in the fire in 2023! i quite like the concept of various short stories in books, i wish more authors did this!
so glad you like the vegetarian also - I don't know many others that have read it !! ooo can't wait for you to read babel, I hope you enjoy it as I really loved it!
Babel was one of the most disappointing books I have read. The idea is sound, but the characters are weak and flat and the whole thing is a mere vessel for the authors bitter and racist views on colonialism, to the point where it became tiresome.
@@karenwetherald6086 it’s rarely spoken about, for obvious reasons, but it’s definitely there. I don’t want to say it’s a book praised on the basis of it’s ‘woke’ merits because I hate that phrase and concept, but you get the idea. It’s a shame because you can see Kuang is a technically gifted writer.
pleeeease keep making videos!! i watch and love a lot of booktubers, but my taste doesn't align much with them. noelle gallagher was my favorite channel for getting my own TBR list and since she's been MIA i've been dying to find someone else with a taste similar to this!! added fresh water for flowers to my list :)
Do you know the author Casey Plett? She’s a Canadian trans woman who has won some writing awards and nominations. Her three fictional works, two short story collections and a novel, are all loosely connected with a few repeating characters, but it isn’t necessary to read them in any specific order. ‘A Safe Girl to Love’ is her first short story collection and mostly follows the lives of a bunch of chaotic young trans women in their twenties. ‘Little Fish’ is a novel about a woman in her early thirties that discovers that her mennonite grandfather might have been trans like her, but this is mostly background hum to her everyday life, which is what the majority of the story revolves around. And her most recent short story collection, ‘A Dream of a Woman’, which is similar in concept to her first collection, but published 7 years later, and mostly follows characters around their thirties. A Safe Girl to Love is probably my favorite of the short story collections, probably because a lot of the characters are around my own age, and it was the first book of hers that I read, and it made me fall in love with her writing. But I also adoreeee Little Fish, because Casey Plett has the ability to make you connect with her characters to the point of feeling hollow when the story ends, and Little Fish, being a novel, lets you stay with them a bit longer. Little Fish also just has so many memorable moments that I can’t stop thinking about. If you ever wanted to read some slice-of-life literary fiction by a trans woman I guess haha.
oooo never heard of this author but this sounds so interesting !! i've added her books on my TBR and will hopefully read them soon if I can find them on sale - thank you so much for the recommendation, i really appreciate you taking the time to write out your comment to me!
I enjoyed the whole video and was hooked throughout. I am new to your channel and I really like the efforts you put in and your interpretation of all these novels. Waiting for more videos, and will also be watching all videos you have made till now.
Finally somebody who didn’t like This is How you Lose a Time War! I thought I just wasn’t smart enough or something because every review I saw said it was fantastic … I don’t see it!
