  • Tara Brach on Spiritual Reparenting (12/07/2016)
When we are not sufficiently nurtured in childhood, we are inclined toward anxiety, depression, addiction and other forms of suffering. In a deep way, we do not feel at home with others. We are disconnected from our own body, heart and spirit.
This talk explores how meditation offers “spiritual reparenting” as we learn to bring interest, understanding and love to our own inner vulnerability. This process of healing extends to our relationships with others and our larger society - by reaching out to widening circles with interest and care, we bring increasing harmony and peace to our world.
From a place of caring, ask, “Where does it hurt?”

So important, especially for trauma victims and those who help trauma victims (who are frequently addicts). Thank you.

The studies Tara mentions makes me think about the 'scientists' who find it interesting to study problems of attachment in monkeys. The emotional distress that's deliberately created in these labs is cruel!
It's immoral and ironically it exposes a deficit within the 'humans' doing these experiments. They are devoid of the very empathy and compassion they are studying.
This spiritual reparenting meditation could be valuable. It seems many parents chose to have children simply to receive a societal badge of honour rather than to nurture a new life. The result is millions of damaged people struggling through life.
So many times I hear people describe their parents as being like 'guardians' or 'strangers'.
The world is so broken when parenting, being a mother or father, is so devalued by our culture and society. It's one of the most important jobs in the World.

What did he say to the king?

Ammar Shahid "What aileth thee?" In other words, "What is making you sick?" You could extrapolate from that to, "What is the cause of your suffering?"

"Oh my. king, what aileth. thee?" in other words, "What is troubling you?"and even further "How can I help?"

I don’t agree with animal testing - this lesson is marred by those references to endorsing unnecessary suffering in sentient beings. Wake up Tara I think u are better than this
