Japanese yoyoers are just built different, I swear. Even years later, I feel like all of the worlds routines that I continue to come back to are from Japanese players. Yuki, Hajime, Rei Iwakura, Takeshi Matsuura, Shu Takada, the list goes on. There are definitely a lot of other players that I like who aren't from Japan, but they're usually not competitive players. I feel like a lot of the other big players, particularly from the US, mainly rely on hard tricks that score high. And I get it, it's a competition and they want to win. But I feel like the top level of Japanese players all have a level of artistry in their styles that is rare to see otherwise. Particularly players like Yuki, Takeshi, Hajime, and Shu. It's a shame that we only really get looks at their tricks in competitions, because I would absolutely binge videos of routines that they post
The best performance on paper, but undermine by a few flaws. I really think with perfect performance the podium was the other way around. Gentry got fewer mistakes than the others, so also a deserved win. Being a judge at this level is crazy difficult. Do yo know if the share the score notes? It would be great to know who was giving which results, like nationality....In other sports you have more information about the judges judge so it is more transparent.

So fucking good. Clean, perfect variety of tricks, best flow of any competitor that day, probably some of the hardest tricks too.
