I've had a Snapper RER for 37 years; my current model has a 33" deck, 17 HP Briggs, and purchased in 2004. I take a lot of pride in my lawn, and this machine does a fantastic job.

shes been took care of thats for sure, I have not seen or worked on a Snapper in 4-5 years don't seem to be as many of them around here as there used to be, enjoyed it Zippo thank you and hope to see ya again soon.
They're not as common here either Mr Mule. As time goes on, seems more and more people are just getting the cheapest riders they can and abusing them until they break down and throwing them away. It's a shame, but that's the trend. Cheers! Zip~

Wow, for a rear engine mower this one seems to be well engineered. Probably because it is older. Great job of belt changing and lubricating all the needed parts. As usual great job and video. Thanks for the tips and videos.
Heya Mr. C! Yeah...These Snapper RER's are tried and true designs that have had decades of reliability spanning 50 years. Simple design that just works with no frills and good materials without a lot of plastic taking the place of steel. Cheers my Friend! Zip~
Good day Zippo! I've been using a old Snapper at work 707 hours on it, it's like a mini Cadillac compared to a new Husqvarna the town purchased. The new mower sits in the back of the shed. I told them I wasn't going to run the new mower until I get time to plate the rear end, like the one at the other cemetery. I'm mowing 6 cemeterys this year. Only get a day off when it rains, so I stay busy. It's nice to get home and relax to watch your channel. You stay well👍

Ran way too much ethanol without any fuel problems in all my engines, big and small to ever bad mouth ethanol. Perhaps the ethanol is better in Arkansas than Indiana . On the other side of things very nice service job Zip and yes the owner kept the unit in great shape for sure. Thanks Zip!
Regionally, there are stark differences in how long our power equipment sits idle. For Northern states, this can be as long as 6 months between active seasons. In Arkansas, your average daily temps in the dead of Winter is still 20 or so degrees above freezing where the Northern states can remain under freezing for weeks at a time. We're not using our equipment nearly as often, which gives the Ethanol more time to degrade and cause damage. Historically, in Arkansas, your Winters last less than 3 months, which is the point when the Ethanol begins to degrade. In our case, up North, we're only half way through Winter by the time the Ethanol begins to degrade. So it's more of an issue in different regions where the weather isn't as mild through Winter. @@ZippoVarga I would be willing to wager I would have the same issue here if I did not start ALL my small engines up once a month and let them run just a few minutes. EXCEPTION is my outboard which I totally run out of gas (choke the heck out of it to get it all out) during the times of year that I am not using it regularly. That being said, you are impressively knowledgeable on small engines and I cannot argue with you as in comparison I am not clueless but not smart either. This is one we will always disagree on, but yet I retain the highest respect for your skills and also you personally. i didn't know there was such a thing as a hex belt . snapper's engineers seem to have "marched to a different drummer" but even so , why was it used on these ?
Heya Bill. Actually, there are a few manufacturers who use the hex belts. Simplicity does on a few models. The reasoning behind it is kind of genius. A standard V style belt works great, but has its limitations as far as how well it maintains its integrity when asked to flex in the opposite direction without stretching or degrading the belt. A Hexagonal belt flexes equally as well in both directions, so it lasts longer. The belt I removed lasted 18 years and stretched a mere 1/2". Where it failed wasn't an actual fail so much as it just wasn't as effective in taller grass. It started slipping. Take a conventional belt and ask it to last 18 years and you're demanding an awful lot. The spindle drive belt on the decks of many Simplicity Sunstar's and later model Sovereign class mowing decks also use a Hexagonal belt for just this reason. They last much longer where applications require the belts make several bends and turns in opposite directions. Cheers my Friend! Zip~
In what way? Are they capable of climbing? Yes. Is there a risk of tip over? Again, yes. But this is the same with all riding mowers. How steep a hill are we talking about?
We've got two places where we can get Ethanol free fuel, yes. The local Co-Op and the Co-Op owned Country Mart fuel station chain. A Couple of our Shell stations carry a reduces Ethanol blend in their V power fuels as well.

Great info, I just acquired one from a garage sale, brought it home got a full tune up and cut the grass the next day

my snapper is 16 years old great news for me 2 more years before I need to change the belt
That particular blade is not used for bagging it is a ninja blade and it’s used for mulching with a mulching cover on the deck. Jim

My Snapper starts and runs about 20 yds to the yard and dies out. Installed new spark plug,fuel filter, & cleaned carb so what 😊 could it be ?
