  • Total teardown to make some changes
The question is to buy or build, I chose build. Building an overland pop-up truck camper or a pickup pop up as I like to call it. The plan is to have it act like a wedge camper as well as a full pop up. Not doing the vanlife or trucklife so the camper needs to be able to come on and off. It also needs come apart to store in a small space.
    More info will be here:
    boulderunderground.com/camp/c...
List of all dimensions and materials coming later with the same link
If you need a link to anything about the build, just leave a comment and I will get it added.

Finally found some 80/20. $359 for 1.5x3 12 ft long plus shipping. I'll just buy a used camper. I'm all about diy but by the time I get all the aluminum I need I'll be into it about 2500

That is crazy expensive, and probably heavy too. That is one of the reasons I went with the 1x2 inch. Still have a lot of challenges going with something smaller lighter (and cheaper) t-slot.

The windows have too much flex to be used that way, and they are heavy. The 8020 if using some corner plates and you sheathing the whole frame with some ACP and then cutting window openings would have been best...I am doing some drwaings fro something similar...just a thought.

Troy, i am wondering if you could omit the aluminum butt plates? Simply attach the members to one-another?

Yup, you are right. I think there are quite a few spots where I could have skipped the base plate. I need to go through the camper to see where I can cut a few out.

Thank you Troy, I am curious if your 8020 source has long lengths? 1.5”x3”x11’? Or even 1.5” x2”?

8020.net just changed the max length that they will send. I need to find a new distributer myself.

How much money do you have into this build so far?

I haven't been tracking the cost. I plan to go through and figure everything out when I get closer to being finished.
