    Great review. Thank you. One quick question (refer time stamp 12:37 ish)… if the holders for the X fitting are swung to the outside, is it possible to have both a Ply/mdf work surface and a 2-by on edge on the outside ? I’m thinking of this setup to make a router sled, but need to know if this configuration will work before spending the $$. Thanks in advance.

    Greetings, Thanks for posting this video, really helped deciding on which one to purchase. I bought the 4x8 version with the thought of making 3 of the "X" supports removable, hence having 3 table options out of one unit. WORKED WONDERFUL, THREE FOR THE PRICE OF ONE.
    I drilled out the "X" rivets and separated it into a 2x4 and a 4x4 unit, with 3 "X" supports set aside. I can reattach the "X" supports to combine the two smaller units back together using 3/16" HF Clevis pins if I need to go back BIG again and connected together. Don't think I will do it often because unconnected they support a 4x8' sheet just fine. One thing, the "X" support holes have to be enlarged just a bit for the pin to go through, the plastic receives without enlarging.
    Just wanted to share and thank you for your video.

    I just ordered the 2x4 version and top earlier today before seeing your review. Very certain it was a good choice after watching your review. Can’t wait to get it in a couple days and start using it, especially as a portable track saw table.

    • @adgieem1
      @adgieem1 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It will work good for your track saw except. It can only support 4 ft long material. Nothing over 4 ft can be supported for track saw and that’s when track saws are best.

    • @adgieem1
      @adgieem1 ปีที่แล้ว

      I am considering the same set up. I would be interested in your review too

    • @Rwjudy48
      @Rwjudy48 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@adgieem1 It is a sturdy work surface. However, [quoting from an Amazon review that mirrors my experience] “While the holes on each half of the surface are indeed spaced on 4 inch centers this spacing is off by 5/32" where the two surfaces meet at the hinge… I suspect this is due to the holes being machined on full MDF sheets and not allowing for the saw kerf when they are cut into 2x2 pieces. This means any accessory like a dog fence that has pins on 4 inch centers can't straddle any joints [the hinge section] in the [Centipede table] work surface. If you’re using dogs to establish a [square or] an angle cut make sure the dogs are on the same half of the surface or your [cuts will not be square] angles will be off.” For this reason, I use the Centipede as a portable work surface, but not a tracksaw cutting station. I instead built a DIY MFT (Multi-Function Table) based on a plan from 10minuteworkshop, a seller on Etsy. I bought the top from an Etsy seller, Trunk Works, and the grid of dog holes are perfectly aligned.

    Bora is a great company, very innovative and the only gripe I had was the standard height of 30” if it was 34” or 36” or somehow had adjustable legs/feet to those heights I think they’d be the best work bench for tradies out there. I know you can buy the 6” add ons but they’re not super cheap, I will be buying some though so I might do some sort of review myself on those when they arrive. Other than that which like he said is just opinion like most things are, the contraption is an absolute winner in my book. In the UK we don’t have big garages and this has changed my work flow so much for the better it’s made me back what it cost me ten times over, because I can do certain jobs on my own, do bigger jobs that I previously needed another person and not just that aside from the weather it’s turned my drive into an additional work shop when paired together with my table saw or planner. I just wish it came with USA 🇺🇸 guaranteed ☀️ sunshine! 😂

    Great review.
    I asked a Bora rep about whether it would be stable enough for hand tool use ( specifically planing a board) and he got pretty defensive and didn’t answer the question. Your review helps. I may get one anyway and figure out something like a planing beam for some of the hand tool use. I like the folding top.

    • @MrTresto
      @MrTresto ปีที่แล้ว +1

      For planing a board? Forget about it. Specifically planing requires a rigid and relatively heavy bench that can sustain these lateral forces. I'm sure you know about it but just in case, Rex Krueger has an improved english joiner's bench design that uses a lot less lumber, as in, somewhere between $50 and $100, depending on said lumber's price, closer to 50, and can be built in about a day. I forget if the plans are free or a couple dollars, I think free. That is a really easy and cheap way to have a good surface for hand tools. Or of course any of the existing designs will work, be it Swedish or Roubo or whatnot, they're just a lot more time consuming (and expensive) to make

    Got the 4'x8' centipede as a xmas gift this year. Like it quite a bit and see a lot of potential. Only complaint thus far is that it is too short (they are 30" and I'm 6') to use for extended periods of time as you'd have to be hunched over.

    Hi John excellent review, I have the 4x8 which is handy and you can use it smaller if needed, but yep (there is always a but eh) lol, the X holders where it states they can take 4x2 can laying down but on edge the gap is only 40mm, so had to cut it out to size, so someone did not their measurements right eh, just thought I would say. And as for the work top with dog holes, and I do agree with you about the separate dog hole worktop, its way to expensive and even more so here in the UK, will make my own as you do not need a CNC do it.

    Ok 1st off thank you very much for this informative video! 2nd, it would've been helpful had you said what you paid for that folding board so ppl could compare pricing. 3rd, this thing is exactly what I've been looking for to make a portable bed! All I would need with it is a folding mat or board for stability and a thick folding floor mat and I would be good to go! It would make moving and storage so much easier vs a whole mattress & boxspring! Last Spring I purchased that overpriced *EZ Bed* which is nothing more than an air mattress affixed to a base similar in design. The air mattress wouldn't stay inflated and I wasted over $200! Ever since I'd been looking for something exactly like this and here it is! Now I can make my own portable sturdy bed and take it down or move it anytime I want or need to! Woo hoo I'm thrilled!

      Still love em! Just depends on your needs for the mdf tops. I just have 2 of them that I use on site, and I still use them with a 4x6 or 4x8 set. Plenty of work surface for site work, and doesn’t take up much space in the truck

    John, when are you upgrading table saws? I see yours is a Rigid, if you are looking at selling, what's the model number of yours? I'll be in the market for a decent contractor saw in the next few months.

    Based on the listed info, this could be used as a temporary riser/stand for video work.
    With a plywood sheet or the Bora work top, how sturdy is to to walk/stand on top with a person and camera tripod?
    Would you recommend additional bracing, using the 2x4 and the x clamps?

    Hey John, those centipedes are nice. Quick off topic question. What is that you have between your planer and drill press against the wall? Is it some sort of drying rack? If so, for what? Looked at your other videos and didn't see one for it. Thanks!

    Are your centipedes the 30 inch tall or 36 inch variant? I was looking into picking up the 4x8 but I see they have a 36 inch tall model which might be better for my height at 6'4 than bending over a bit more at 30 inches. What's your thoughts?

    • @JohnBuildsIt
      @JohnBuildsIt  ปีที่แล้ว

      I have the 30”. Just depends what you mostly build. Cabinets and bigger furniture pieces, I like the 30”. Flat items laying down, 36” would definitely be better

    I think these would be handy for a temporary table to do some glue up, assembly, or to store some material. But as a main work table, (like you have it) I don't think it is sturdy enough for me, and yes, I use every power tool option out there. It's a little to wobbly for everyday use imho, but as I mentioned great for a quick temporary table....easy to set up and easy to break down and store in a corner. Thanks for sharing

    I'd be using this in my garage for 4x8 sheet breakdown. I use the same 1-inch foam board you do. Question: Do you think the 4x6 centipede be good enough to hold up 4x8 3/4 ply, 4x8 foam and 4x8 piece being cut? Or am I really better off with the 4x8 centipede?

  • @vanguardcycle
    @vanguardcycle หลายเดือนก่อน

    i would be 100% sold on one of these if the overall size was like 3 or 4 inches less than a sheet of ply.. i.e., 45" x 95" or so. seems like that's a common complaint and hopefully the design team from Bora is perusing these comment threads.

      @ because the middle of the supports are at 96" x 48" so they protrude a few inches outside of a 4 x 8 sheet. sadly a big enough of a deal to me to not get one, as handy as they look for us mobile fab guys
