Lyrics
They offered me the office, offered me the shop
They said I'd better take anything they'd got
Do you wanna make tea at the BBC?
Do you wanna be, do you really wanna be a cop?
Career opportunities, the ones that never knock
Every job they offer you is to keep you out the dock
Career opportunities, the ones that never knock
I hate the army and I hate the RAF
I don't wanna go fighting in the tropical heat
I hate the civil service rules
I won't open letter bombs for you
Career opportunities, the ones that never knock
Every job they offer you is to keep you out the dock
Career opportunities, the ones that never knock
Oi!
Bus driver
Ambulance man
Ticket inspector, I don't understand
They're gonna have to introduce conscription
They're gonna have to take away my prescription
If they wanna get me making toys
If they wanna get me, well I got no choice
Career opportunities, the ones that never knock
Every job they offer you is to keep you out the dock
Career opportunities, the ones that never knock
Career, career
Career, it ain't never gonna knock - เพลง
'I hate the army I hate the RAF,I don't wanna die fighting in a Falklands st'
How many bands would come out with this kinda lyric now ? God bless The Clash !! for doing so
+boymanic Original record was "tropical heat"
t-t-t-ticket inspector
+Nick paflas Yeah thanks,I'm well aware of the original lyric, but he doesn't say that in this version.
boymanic I always thought he said "foreign country" ...
Nick paflas i thougth first that is was chicken inspector :-3
boymanic didint they say: i dont wanna die fighting in a folkclose straight?
Joe Strummer wrote hundred of songs about the life in the UK in the 70's. He was in the right track, his music was perfect, he and the members of The Clash has changed my life and my point of view about this world.
Yeah... Me too.
Same for me, im a french canadian, and their music went through and changed my life
What is the point of view you gained from the Clash?
Whats your viewpoint now then?
Communist
I was there that night. It was a cool, misty, late October night. The Who and The Clash on the same bill. It was total bliss!
I saw the same tour in Seattle. For me it was the old guard passing the torch to the new. The Who was the Clash of the 60's/early 70's for me.
The Who had some balls having the Clash as support..
And yet... neither of them with their real drummers. Terry was alright... but he ain't no Topper. And Kenney Jones was great in the Faces, but Moon's shoes are impossible to fill.
How strange it's a cool misty late October night, now all I need is the clash.
It was great. We stood on the pitchers mound before the show. Tom Seaver. Both bands were absolutely on.
Coolest band in the history of the world.
I think this legendary band could be a great case study in sociology, regarding years of modernism and post-modernism (especially in the UK). Unforgettable
That's 2 minutes that changed my life
The only band that matters.
JKC Grant idk bro, remo drive rips.
Rangers died, thats all that matters
@@andylowe9997 HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Strummer said elsewhere that it was powerful they played this song written in a squat in Shepherd’s Bush in 76 at Shea stadium six years later. Extra poignancy with Terry Chimes. So tight and clean.
Was 14 and was there for two nights, one of the biggest memorable, and life changing events in my life, second to marrying my beautiful wife.. The Future is truly unwritten, how true. Write and make the best life you want, no matter what obstacles lay ahead. RIP Joe 🙏🙏
It's now 2023 and nothing has come close to the energy and charisma of The Clash. Simply fantastic.
the Clash = the only band that matters
Police
I’m just going
@@merccadoosis8847😊😊p
1:08 paul simonon is just so cool man
Wow...even 'Jimmy Page' agrees!
Yep.
That's how you play bass and are drop dead cool.
74 years old and still a Clash city rocker ……. Oh to be able to time travel ! !
just absoloutely indescribable. no one then now or ever can touch these total legends
Eddie Donnelly
Aidan Ernie
Today Joe would be 70. Born August 21st 1952. Happy birthday, legend. 😎
8 people wanna make tea at the BBC.
it's 21 now...

alot of tea for everyone !
We need Joe now more than ever.
Indeed!
At least we still have Tom Morello, but yeah I agree.
No way to say it better!
❤️
What for?
The very best band ever.
A band which could never be replaced
Thank you to whoever put up this video. I watch and listen to it on continuous repeat in the mornings to get me energized for the horror show called living - in the material world. The Clash was my favourite band since I was 13. I'm 55 now, and still can't get enough of them. Thank you for this video!
This is the way it should be done.
thats right Zach Arnold
Yes I am sure there are some overdubs but it's a wonderful reminder of how powerful their early anthems were. Given they had Terry Chimes with them again they purposely played more of their first album which he drummed on than they would have done in the 82 tour and he's really tight on this. Fantastic mid 70s lyrics from Mick Jones. 'Do you want to make tea at the BBC' is still a brilliant phrase.
Wow I love this version!!!!!
The greatest song ever written or will be written.
The best band ever
Ah, to be sixteen and hear this again for the first time on an Am radio tucked under my pillow. Time, stand still.
This has got to be one of their best songs without a doubt! There's something about the angry realism that just wakes something up in me.
its so cute how soft mick's voice is compared to joe. like when he says "well" before "I got no choice" hahah so cute ;-;;
There was a real harmony between the voices of Strummer, Jones and Simonon... One soft (Jones), one harsh and bitter (Strummer), and the last one very bitter (Simonon)
HOW TO PUNK agree
The lyrics on the majority of tracks are very prominent now, the warnings were there from the 70’s but the public don’t heed the fantastic advice that many bands were putting out there.
Indeed. Back in the 70s today's world was predictable... shame their warnings didn't work.
❤❤❤❤YOU WILL ALWAYS BE MY HEART JOE STRAMMER ❤❤❤❤
Joe changed my way of looking at things. Loved him and miss him 😢 ❤
that jump on time with the guitar...mmmmm....Amazing
Nice seeing Terry on tunes he drummed on in studio.
One of my favorite songs with Clash, and also with fantastic picture and sound!
this song is so much incredible in a other level, the people see know what i'm talking about
the best rock and roll band ever!
There’s no band we need more right now
I love The Clash
Every song was perfect off this album
Respect!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The CLASH
Still and forever THE ONLY BAND THAT MATTERS!!!
Man, that is the best stuff.
Me encanta
Joeeeeeeee!!! Diooss
I Love Paul
The Clash легенды. Джо Страмер молодец. Помним. Любим.
Love how Paul's jump is perfectly timed with the cymbal at 0:03
At about 1:10 it sounds like the opening to Kepone Factory by the Dead Kennedys
当時日本限定pearl harbor'79のLPを買って毎日聞いてました😊懐かしい〜今でも全部歌えるw
Wow!! Just WOW!!!
Es increible. Lo da todo de elll
The best version !!!!! I LOVE U
Watching from Greece.hi everybody.
Best Clash song.period.
Freaking great concert clip 😲
1 OF THE MANY GREATEST CONCERTS I EVER BEEN TOOOO
Oh my, this is amazing!
Strummer/Jones. Magic. Right there with Lennon/McCartney.
Perfect
Make a blu-ray of this show, please!
These will never be touched
the greatest band ever.. i still miss john bigtime.. he changed my life.. x
Brilliant. A little studio treatment one suspects to punch out the sound but of all their post Topper appearances this is a highlight mainly because Terry was theIr at the beginning. Shame there’s no footage of them in this period doing Janie Jones with him drumming.
Clashing stuff
got into these in late 80s on my decent into chaos!
Love Mick's jumpsuits!
Wow. Repeat,repeat ,repeat.
😭😭😭😭世界一カッコいい‼️
Flippin' great(!) - thanks for uploading.
"Career Opportunities"- "Sandanista" version is my guilty pleasure.
Best 120 second song ever !
On the verge of being the biggest band on earth, and they imploded within months.
Oh well.
I saw them in 79
That was more than sufficient.
Brilliant song. The Clash without Topper... Well.... Although Terry Chimes (Tory Crimes) was the original drummer on their first album: The Clash (UK release). I was fortunate to see them twice in '82 (Hong Kong and Montreal). I believe they played Shea is Summer '82 and not '81
Your joking! You saw them in Hong Kong 1982! I uploaded the audio of the concert on my channel. What was your favourite song of the set? It isn't the full gig recording but most of it. I would love to know more about it:)
@@turnipsreturn716 Looks like Bijay won't return .
I think this was ‘83 with David Johanson before and The Who was the headliner. At least that’s the only time I saw Clash at Shea. Great show!
actually it was 82, I googled it. October of ‘82
Posting the lyrics in the notes is ingenious.
Words still resonate in 2023
When the music was music...
José Chaves it still is
If you look for good music trust me you’ll find it
@@tennyson1025 yes old one!!!!
I hear "I don't wanna die fighting in a Falklands krieg"
This was around 1982.
The only band that still matters
Anorher hit...👍👍
Siempre
if I could go back in time!
Fantastic band never made a bad track electric sound made it in the USA says it all
The cat next door,, has a tail like that😄😄😆😃great song, and lyrics,
First Clash drummer Terry Chimes for the US tour with the Who ... Topper Headon had been fired for addiction . But Topper was the best....
Terry gave a good go at it, though.
The only band that matters!!!
E quanto ritmo...🎶
He said I BETTER TAKE ANYTHING THEY GOT!
この曲が一番好き
Y'all get it
best!
A lifetime ago the ones that never knock!!
