- Oh no, Charlie Brown! The Calvinists are conspiring against Christmas! According to some, Calvinists (being the diabolical little devils that they are) have managed to hijack the proper reading of Luke 2:14 and changed it to fit their theology. Calvinists apparently have regard neither for the text of scripture nor for Linus and the true meaning of Christmas. Is this true? In today's podcast, we will take a look.

Just a quick observation about Linus' speech: When he quotes the angel "Fear not", he drops his security blanket. He no longer needs it. And, if memory serves, he never picks it up again (at least in this special). I've just always thought it's great that they included that detail.
That is a cool detail, although I believe he does pick it up again as he later uses it to support the little tree

I have watched this Charlie Brown special every year for nearly 50 years. Charlie Brown's search for Christmas culminating with Linus' speech, along with the antics of the rest, is a true classic. It's said, that originally ABC wanted to omit Linus' speech, but Charles Schultz was adamant. I once read an interview with the guy, as an adult, who voiced Linus at the time. He stated that it had such an impact on him, it became the center of his life.
I love this movie. It gives the Gospel to all who watch it each and every year. ❤
That is the only time Linus ever lets go of his blanket in any of the Charlie Brown shows.
Notice Linus had dropped his security blanket when he started talking about the Savior ...

@@ritaschultz6859 It’s a rather lengthy subject, but there is a divide amongst Christians in regard to doctrines such as predestination, free will, total depravity, etc., and is typically simplified to Calvinism vs Arminianism, making Calvin something of a boogeyman to the Arminian side.

There is nothing wrong with reading either KJV or ESV/NASB, you just have to understand how they came to be and do exegesis. Faith on fire is not even in accordance with most baptists because he is just weird theologically

I used to be really bothered by the idea that it’s God who elects us, not we who choose Him. I grew up in an arminian tradition so I thought it was a given that it’s up to man to choose to accept God’s grace. I remember being so grieved by the idea of unconditional election, thinking it was unfair-but as I continued to read the word and grow in sanctification, it only made sense that God chooses us. We are dead in our trespasses, slaves to sin before Christ. Only by His divine grace can we even begin to fathom loving God. So I understand that man’s aversion, but I pray he allows the word of God to speak for itself

I especially appreciate you defining "antinomy", as I had not heard of this and have struggled to understand and accept the idea of the sovereignty of God and "free will" to both be true. I've actually engaged in multiple debates on this taking the stance against free will and in support of the sovereignty of God alone. I can not deny the scripture that you point to that supports the position of both, resulting in an antinomy. Brian is not arminian... neither of those doctrines are biblical though.

This was a wonderful lesson concerning the person and work of Christ.
Listening to that clip of Charlie Brown brought tears to my eyes. I remember as Children my brother and sister and I used to love to watch Charlie brown. I loved going to Church to have our magical Christmas concert and as a child I liked Santa Claus but I always knew that the real reason for Christmas was all about the birth of Baby Jesus and I loved that story so much as a child. When they took more and more of the Bible and bible stories out of the schools and other public places the only result is a world in much more corruption and hate and division than ever before. I would love to have one woke know it all tell me one good thing that has resulted in demonizing God and further persecuting Christians in America and Canada. There is none. Nothing good has come from removing God.

My family bought an old bachelor friend of ours a Charlie Brown Christmas tree like yours about 10 years ago. He also uses it as his Christmas tree every year.
Wish I could talk my little ones into us doing that! I’m planning on a smaller tree this Christmas anyway. But a Charlie Brown tree would be amazing! We went to a tree farm to pick out our tree and we saw some really small ones and joked about getting one of. Those weren’t for sale but I might could have talked them into it.

I don't understand why some professing "Christians" hold such vitriol against Calvinism. Why is it so offensive to them the possibility of God being sovereign over salvation? Is God not sovereign? Then he is not God. I think it's a good indication that someone might not even be saved to hold such hatred of a doctrine reflected all through scripture.
Edit: I'm not saying anyone who doesn't believe Calvinism is not saved. I'm friends with lots of people who reject Calvinism, but don't condemn it as heresy. But his quip about the sermon being good because it doesn't have Calvinism in it is very telling.
It's good to differentiate between people who aren't Calvinists and people who are anti-calvinist. The former group is likely composed of many well meaning believers who have been poorly instructed. The latter group are usually composed of people who hate the biblical gospel, often legalists who see the gospel call as antinomian.
After watching this man with grimaced face slander our sister Susan Heck I’m not shocked he doesn’t do his due diligence to investigate the classical reformed faith.
Interesting he comments he wouldn’t be in a Calvinist church while I’ve been a Christian for 30 years and up until 3years ago I’ve only attended Arminian type churches because there were no reformed churches in my city. I didn’t agree on everything obviously and often endured mocking of the doctrine of election from the pulpit.
I remember RC Sproul taught if your in a church and they preach the gospel faithfully and aren’t teaching heresy you don’t have a great reason not to attend so I stayed.
We moved in 2019 and by God’s grace I found a small but great reformed baptist church near me that upholds the doctrines of grace. Our God is so gracious and merciful to his children.

I remember when they cancelled the original spoony on lice for one year. People complained so much that Knott's brought it back the next year. And every year people cheer when the Luke passage is quoted. People want to hear the true meaning of Christmas.
The ESV is what helped me understand Gods Word years ago. I’ve been attacked by KJV only people. I will be sharing this video with them.

As a KJV only person, I sincerely apologize for that on their behalf. I personally believe the KJV to be God's preserved Word for the English language and find issues with other translations, but I don't think we should alienate brothers and sisters over it and it doesn't make someone any more or less a child of God.
I have many friends that use other translations and I consider them dear bros and sisters in Christ, as well as having learned greatly from preachers that cited other translations.
I am 100% KJV when it comes to differences in translations. That is the ultimate authority over other versions .

What he doesn’t know is the KJV translators were also at least Calvinistic leaning. Article 19 of the 39 Articles.

I've listened, reluctantly, to this guy concerning his rebuking of Calvinism, and especially Justin Peters and John Macarthur. He doesn't even understand Calvinism but sure spouts off about it. I rebuked him about his comments one time, as they were ignorant, demeaning, and baseless. I find it better to avoid having to listen to him at all. Keep preaching Justin, you're a blessing to so many God fearing Christians.

Just the title made me laugh! Being one of those "waskly" so-called "Calvinists" I thought I've heard it all before. But no! Those with CDS (Calvin Derangement Syndrome) are the gift that keep giving! 😂 Downloaded this episode and plan to enjoy it in full later this evening. Thank you, Justin, for your faithful witness and stance of the Scriptures. We'd obviously have a couple disagreements here and there (who gets baptized, eschatology, the nitty-gritty of soteriology, etc), but we certainly agree that Christ is the only begotten son, God come in flesh, He died for our sins and was raised the 3rd day, as a propitiation for all who'd believe.

I know Calvinists who are in the TR camp.
It's hard to drop all the baggage you started with. The best I can tell it's the people who heard someone else complain about something and didn't bother to look at it for themselves.
I recommend understanding how we got our English New Testament so you can handle those arguments intelligently.

I still have my kjv Thompson chain reference bible from the 80's, I wrote on every page of it back then, and mostly what I was doing was translating it into modern English, today on my computer I can open multiple versions at the same time to seek out a meaning.
Good will toward men is simply saying that the Lord is not willing for anyone to perish, He takes no pleasure in the death of the wicked. But by changing the text in these other versions, it is saying that the Lord has a "select" bunch He will show favor to. That is Calvinism 101.
