It works well on bicycles when replacing with 6mm thick bearing.
The first plastic part that converts the bearing dia from 25 to 24 can be removed much easily with a thin blade-knife. I use NT Cutter blade.
In my opinion we have to omit the 1 mm thick plastic dust seal, if we use 7 mm thick bearings. We can choose sealed bearings. So we can ensure same chain line.
As you pointed out all imported bicycle parts are very expensive here in our country. So we do this here.
    Nice video...
    Thanks for your initiative....

Buy the cups once from China. They are using standard bearings.

You can remove plastic inserts with thin knife, like utility knife, just pry it gentle around perimeter, but big problems with shimano bbs that bearings is hard to find, other manufacturers that making compatible bbs use standard bearings, i just swap bearings on my commuter bicycle every year.
    great website btw.

The plastic sleeves are sacrificial so that your crank axle doesnt get worn if the bearing seizes.

Good video Mr. Gremlin. Very informative and can be used as a tutorial. Are the plastic dust sleeves the only reason the MTB Hollowtech BB uses 6mm thick bearings and the road ones use 7mm thick being less exposed to mud ? In other words, can the Road BB be used on MTB frame without plastic sleeves ? Is the sleeve thick enough to be grinded a little on the flat circular part?

To remove the plastic cover without damaging it, try the method in this video:
    th-cam.com/video/mTl0fEh46w0/w-d-xo.htmlfeature=shared&t=771
    or this method:
    th-cam.com/video/EVP2BE5neXQ/w-d-xo.htmlfeature=shared
When you replace the bearing from Shimano (37x25x6) with one with standard dimensions - 6805 (37x25x7), in order for the plastic cover to fit, you need to grind it slightly. Then you only mount the plastic cover directly on the bearing without a seal.

the 2mm bigger size from both bearings(1mmx2) is about the same as a single 2.5mm BB spacer. Maybe you could use 1 less spacer when fitting the BB?

    • @BikeGremlinUS
      @BikeGremlinUS  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Yup, it could do for the total width (and spacing) - though the plastic insert is needed for the axle to nicely fit inside the bearings.

You can consider using a MR 24377 sealed bearing and forget about the plastic spacer. There is another make does not use the spacers at all.

Como compensas el 1 mm de diferencia ?? e visto que venden cubiertas de plastico para compensar ese mm ??

    Hello Sir,
I hope you can help me!
I have a Cube LTD SL 2012 with 68mm hollowtech bottom bracket.
Original it is shimano deore 3x10 gears and the bottom bracket has 2 spacers on the drive side and 1 spacer on the none drive side. Now I have bought new geargroup and the new cranks are deore 1x10 m5100. I changed the bottom bracket also and used the same numbers of spacers as before when it was 3x10 but chainline is not so good on big sprockets on the cassette. How many spacers should I use on wich side?
Is it always 2 spacers on driveside and 1 spacer on none drive side when its 68mm BB?

Have you tried moving the chainring so it fits on the inside of the crank spider?

  • @grebelnik

You can use heat to remove bearing. Heat gun or something like this. Bearing will almost fall out by itself.

Makes sense - the aluminium cups will expand a lot faster than the steel bearings inside.

no need to machine the metal if ur concerned with the 1mm difference . just sand the plactic cup base and omit the steel cover since ur replacing it with a sealed bearing anyway
