First-time watcher and I can tell you have a very bubbly/enthusiastic personality, so the bright lighting really reflects you and who you are. Makes you look really good in a happy way. Why does everyone think about boobs when they hear "breastplate"? It's a piece of armor that protects your chest. She was wearing CLOTHES underneath it. It'd be like if it was made out of an arm guard or something.
This isn't something you have to watch but there is an animated series that takes place in between the first and second movie if you wanted to watch it after you're done with the movies that just goes over their daily life and then finding and getting their own dragons it is Canon so some things that just are in the second movie that happens during the time skip is actually explained in the show
C4 me just like how people praise the heck out of Shrek for me this is one in the same if not a little bit better in my opinion because How Train Your Dragon is my goat it's my favorite DreamWorks movie it gets me emotional everytime when I watch it and I remember when the last movie came out I saw in theaters and I did not regret it
I know I'm late, but I can't sing this series' praises enough. It has a few... hiccups; no pun intended- but it's still _amazing_ and _emotional._ The movie trilogy helped bring my grandfather and I closer- as he absolutely fell in _love_ with the setting, the scenery, the music and _especially_ the characters. When my grandmother passed, our family was in shambles. Like the _world_ was ripped out from under our feet. But this, and especially the second & third movies, along with the little... addendums they've done after the trilogy? Those were what let us cope. Also the sequel series is worth _less_ of a watch than the rescue riders baby crap.
I love this series. It is downright heartbreaking, which is one of the things that I love, but... it is also why my wife still refuses to watch the third movie XD One day... one day...
This movie didn’t necessarily focus on loss, but the sequel and 3rd definitely are darker and deal with death and loss. The end of the 3rd movie will forever be one of my favorite cinematic moments in animation. I hope Krystal reacts to 2 and 3 because they were just as good as this one.
This is definitely one of my favorite franchises, I've seen all 3 movies and have seen the tv series riders/defenders of Berk and Race to the edge, the series give more interactions and development between characters, and of course introducing and exploring even more dragons like my favorite from the series, The Skrill

They’re not at all required to understand what’s happening in the rest of the movies, but they do add to the world. The shows are called Riders/Defenders of Berk (title change while the show was airing) and Race to the Edge. Both are excellent
They're not required but they take the world of these movies from an island we see three times into a very fleshed-out, lived-in world. The absolutely bonkers variety in the dragons and the original characters the shows create absolutely should not be ignored when discussing HTTYD. But that's just my opinion lol

Just wanna throw my hat into the ring regarding the TV series: While many here are recommending to watch Race to the Edge before the second movie, as it takes place before it, it was made and released after it, and I would recommend watching it after the second movie. It's, in my opinion, much easier and better to catch a bunch of specificly made Call-Forwards than always being on the hunt for what could be potential foreshadowing out of an entire series. However, the series Riders of Berk and Defenders of Berk are indeed in all regards between the first and second movie, as are the specials Legend of the Boneknapper Dragon, Book of Dragons, and Gift of the Night Fury. And, to top it all of, there's also the special Dawn of the Dragon Racers, which is in some regards a sequel to Defenders of Berk and a prequel to Race to the Edge, but is in release order also after the second movie. Oh boy... xD
"Imagine if he tamed this big old dragon" It would make later conquests in the British Isles and raids in France MUCH easier. Burk having dragons has given then an enormous strategic and even industrial advantage for next several centuries.
I absolutely loved this movie it made me cry at some parts which doesn’t really happen with certain movies and I loved that they continued the series it just gave me joy to see something like this and I loved it 🥰

This trilogy is one of the most well executed trilogies I know of. A lot of movies that start out as stand alone films like this one did originally end up suffering from ill-executed sequels, but each one of the HTTYD films are amazing.
I mean, gender roles are good cuz it helps society also their siblings, have you never told your siblings to do something that's in their "gender" role. Almost no guy that wants to be with a woman is a misogynist becuase if most men were misogynist they wouldn't be people walling rn. @@Mothobius He does have some movement specifically based on other animals (the body shaking with the tail wag is unbelievably doggy) a lot of the animations were based on I think the lead animator getting a ball of tape and sticking it to his cat's tail and recording the movement.

You should watch the series too, in timeline they are all before the second movie. We can see many things there like how do they handle having the dragons around as it isn't a Dinsey movie there are still struggles with that or how other people react to the people of Berk befriending dragons and having dragons who are not used to the peace with people yet.

I love this series, though If i am honest, Spoiler for the other movies The third movie completely goes against the themes of the first two in my mind. It just seems like he went from "let's fight for friendship even if it seems impossible" to "let's lock them away forcibly for their own protection." pretty quick. I mean, there are a LOT of dragons that just wouldn't survive down there. How would any non-bolder class dragon survive with the cavern crasher being perfectly adapted to the environment? Its main food was dragon eggs when dragons had a chance to get away, now they are trapped underground with it. Actually, that might be why there are so few dragon types left in the new show.
