F2P Ironman/UIM Startup & Overview Guide

- In this video I go over a good order for starting a F2P Ironman and give
info about what skills to train when and how to train them. In the end
I give some general useful F2P tips!
The path to follow early on:
Stronghold of Security for 10k gp (use wines from Draynor for food)
Buy runes, get 13 Magic to kill vampire
Multiquest most quests, min 32 qp (skip Rune Mysteries if not UIM, skip Misthalin Mystery until 50 craft and Imp Catcher if UIM)
Train Crafting to 16 with pottery or leather
Train Crafting to 40 with silver at al kharid/varr sw
Mage Ankou to 37 Magic for teleports
Train Crafting 40-50 with Craft guild & teles (60 laws)
Train Magic 37-49 for ruby enchant
Make Strength ammy
Train melees to sufficient levels for Elvarg
Do Dragon Slayer (longsword if flinching, short sword otherwise)
Get 40/40/40 melees if you haven't already so you can equip rune pickaxe and armor
Minotaurs are good for low level training, lots of arrows
You've got the basics done!
If you can handle a bit longer grind:
Range ankou (40+ range) for 650 more laws
If you haven't trained Ranged yet, do chickens to 20, minotaurs 20-40
Train crafting 50-70 for Power ammy
This will take about 70 hours
You will make about 700k gp from this, which is enough to fund 99 Ranged with bronze/iron arrows

Wines are nice cheap buyable food
LMS coffer is a gp bank for UIM
LMS/Clan Wars teles to recharge energy at portal
Shantay pass to port sarim tele
Chronicle daily
Canoes are useful
Do your randoms!
For reg ironmen: Bandit Camp General Store
Run when carrying less weight, walk when heavy
You can get RFH from Greaters in wildy or Obor
You can get Rune kiteshield from Obor
Do the Christmas holiday event for Reindeer hat

If anyone is reading this recently, basically replace Ankous with Ogresses and you're set. A lot of the rest still holds up. You can get duplicate amulets of accuracy by turning in another set of beads after completing the quest though, that's been changed since the video originally released.
Ogresses drop laws and nats way more than any other f2p monster, and have a ton of good alchables too (rune full helm and rune battleaxe being the 2 biggest), so money is not nearly as hard to come by anymore.
Personally I ranged hill giants with iron arrows til 50 and then used addy arrows at ogresses afterwards (wouldn't recommend doing them earlier cause kills take way too long, and I don't recommend doing them with iron arrows for the same reason. You easily make up for the money spent on addy arrows in time saved. For mage, I'm actually not sure what the best option is. Fire striking ogresses takes forever, even if you do make a net profit, but I preferred curse splashing til I could high-alch the ogress drops.
Btw, for early game cash, sell stuff at the bandit camp in the wildy. It's tedious and very risky if you're a hcim, but you get decent starting cash way faster than any other methods. Steel platelegs are a no brainer, but you can offload your unstrung symbols there, too. Sell 5-10 and hop. I'd only bring the full stack if you're hcim, since your account is basically over if you die anyways. Otherwise probably not worth risking bringing everything at once.

Just started 3 days ago on mobile after being gone a few years.
Never knew this mode existed so thought I'd go all in and give ulti ironman a try because I like bdsm.
This is fun as shit! Not having to rely on others or the grand exchange (which when it was introduced made me extremely lazy) not tempting myself to be a pack rat and waste time going to banks is pretty fufilling!
Two things thing that bugged me so far is getting to all the gold in the crafting guild and not being able to take advantage of the bank literally right next to you lol and the fact that if anyone hits what you are fighting ONCE you get no loot at all..made me so sad but pressing on!

Update: Imp catcher is safe, you can now get multiple amulets after the quest by handing in a set of beads to the wizard.
Amulet of accuracy can be obtained multiple times
you also get 40 gp from stores for the exrta one

Doing an F2P UIM at the moment. Really enjoying it, hoping to hit 50 crafting tomorrow. Old guide but very relevant.
Good luck on the 70 crafting grind, it's aids even on a regular f2p im. I've been at it for almost 40 hours on my hcim, and I'm getting close (another 12 hours last I calculated), but damn is it the most tedious thing I've done in this game.
This was helpful in my quest to see if I could have fun farming back up to a bond in F2P Regular Ironman, I appreciate this guide

You can get another amulet by trading 4 beads to the wizard again.

when training your mage at the beginning, kill imps to get beads for the quest, may aswell do witch's potion too.
Not sure why this is getting disliked, it's a good guide and a lot of effort was put into this.
imps gather at the volcano area on karamja island (the island can be accessed by boat at port sarim) it took very little time to kill the imps with magic or arrows for the beads once I was told about that place, so I thought I'd share
From what it seems, this guide was created for efficient players that all ready know a lot about the game and could use the guide to play a F2P ironman efficiently. All the new players to Runescape that thought this was a start up guide will have a lot of trouble using this.

If you want 13 magic (this is alsop good for normal accounts. Not just ironmen. Except the beads just buy for 8k after stronghold. Soemtimes less.)
Witches house - Onion (Pick from Sheep searer farm place.), Eye of Newt (1? gp at port sirim), Burnt meat (kill a ratr, and cook the meat then use it on a range) thats 8 magic
Then use your runes on imps where possible (South of Falador gate near the Yew trees theres a hardspawn for imps if you can kill the ones that did spawn.) for the beads. If you have the beads its 12 magic immedietly then all you need is level 13 + 5 defence for vampire slayer :3 (11 hp reccommended before starting honestly.)

Question: why do you value the accuracy amulet so much and not complete imp catcher? Although it's a one- time item, isn't it overpowered by the amulet of power that you can already make?

It's not really practical in regards to the amulet of accuracy, I just personally choose to be careful about it since it's a once ever type of item. It's not a useful item, though it does look kind of cool imo.

My plan right now is after 89 smithing I'll do boneyard until 43 prayer, go and do some fishing until about 80 to have a better level for catching food, and then make myself a scimitar and start training melees. I'll kill hill giants until I get a rune full helm and kiteshield from obor, then switch to moss giants for the rest of the 99's since hill giants will probably be too crowded.

Detrain100 because thats a death wish its multi its deep and you can get ganked by large random teams by any given moment. didnt you see the HC ironman death maps? its bloody red in there thats why people rather avoid it and do it the much safer way.

Just camp the Imp spawn by the west farm in Lumby with decent combat stats, Imp Catcher is very fast that way.

Done the F2P quests (The ones we have to do), got myth armor/skim, and got to 40 crafting. My problem is after the crafting (Amulets) I only had ~14K GP, I bought a fire staff and 2k air, 1k mind (All my money). Got up to level 34 magic but now I'm 100% broke and only have 16 law runes to show for it. I guess I'll have to go back and mine silver for the symbols :/

i usually like to bang out misthalin mystery cooks assistant ernest the chicken and rune mysteries first in my 2-3 hours of gameplay so i can get to mining a boat load of rune essence
why does that take 2-3 hours. those quests take around 30 minutes

If you need money on your ironman, would smithing your best platebody by superheating the bars in the mining guild and smithing them in vorrock, then high alching them.

osrs f2p is more oldschool then osrs p2p will ever be
More true before Dragon Slayer 2 was released. F2p has access to ogresses since then, and nowadays the f2p ironman meta completely revolves around them. They're also by far the best combat profit in f2p.
for me personally the only reason to make a hcim account is to get the club from obor. which is better than a scimmy. also it drops rune plate legs / full helm / kite shield and the plate body you buy from oziach. who cares if you wear a str ammy or accuracy. for me all those smithing and crafting grinding is ridiculous.
The club isn't better than scimmy for training, it's really just a cosmetic. It's basically just a crush alternative to a rune 2h, so it might be good for pking and that's about it. Str ammy is +10 strength bonus which is quite a lot and it doesn't take that long to get. The smithing grind is definitely ridiculous but it is cool to try and get the rune scim.
runecrafting is 3.5k/hr? that is absurdly low, about 3700 hours to 99
Wish I watched this before doing rune mysteries haha oh well! Lesson learn.

Why not kill cows at crafting guild, you can tan your hides in the guild? I have heard its 7k xp/hour in crafting + melee combat and prayer. Wouldn't it in the longer run be worth it compared to have to do 10m mining xp for 99 crafting?
Timonites doing silver crafting is 13-14k/hr and you get smithing xp also. The biggest downside to leather crafting is the lack of smithing xp, and the fact that you're training melees without getting any law or nature rune drops.

I started my F2PUI today. I got the pinball random event after maybe an hour of playing. The reward? 5 rubies, of course. Whelp. Guess I'm holding on to these forever... What does one even *do* with extra rubies?
