Automotive designer here. I have only 2 points.
1) People use aftermarket crash guards on almost all brand bikes, why the issue only with RE?
2) If chassis is weak at one point, why wasn't it reinforced or welded with a backup (redundancy) member at the place? This points to a QC failure.
In the end, this flaw can cause serious accidents and whatever may be the cause of it, the user confidence is definitely shattered and it's hard to come back from it unless RE recalls the bikes and reinforces the chassis.
Considering the track record, asking for a recall means publicly accepting the mistake, which is not the tendency with Indian manufacturers, thanks to consumer laws that favour businesses more than consumers.
If u don't use proper bolts after putting crash guard and using wrong bolts it will happen in any bike which uses engine as stress member. Same issue also happened in ktm bikes and many other bikes. The thing is it is highlighted more in case of RE because it gives more views.
The bike with broken chassis seems to have no crash guards installed, at least that is the optical illusion from the photos of the bike (Hanle black).
@@surisurya3577 it has both of the bikes face this issue were using ZANA crash guards and in both of the cases bolts were missing.
@@surisurya3577 that we thought at first but that guy removed the gaurd after incident so some photos don’t show gaurd but when we checked older photos gaurd were installed
There are 100 s of motorcycles in the market today & 1000 s of assasories or crash guards available for them but none of these bike breaks their chassis except RE HIMALAYAN ( like 411 ). Blaming aftermarket accesories better RE should improve their quality.
Because buying an adventure motorcycle in india is an emotion for us.
Very sad.
Well said
Absolutely..
Therr are 1000s of Himalayan, but no one had such issues ever. Many have gone to Leh Ladakh with these bikes. And they load the bike much more than what we do in normal trips. Howcome no such issue cropped in the Hilly roads ?
@@genuineleo78 your point is absolutely valid and also RE has done a rigorous testing
I have seen many ktm 390s and dominor too with the same issue u can find many videos and images of ktm bikes with broken chassis
Good analysis! However, FYI crash guards are built to protect the engine not your legs. So don't look at the RE rally guard costing 9950 and think itna small guard ko jada price kyu hai vs regular RE guard, also the rally guard is esthetically designed compared to after market parts which look like a monstrosity
Both the RE guards look better than after market ones but i still believe that rally gaurds will just protect lower engine casing , if you see all adventure bikes gaurds are designed in such a way that when faller its easy to lift the bike and minimum damage happens to luggage and tank
baat kya ho rahi hai bhai aur tu aesthetics par ada hai
Isse jyada mazboot meri hero ki cycle hai, ye koi baat hui bahar se. Crash guard laga hai to frame toot jayega, koi sense banta bhi hai to, itne saalo saal test karti re bikes ko, kya ghanta test karte ho ha sirf hype create karte ho, 411 me bhi same issue tha, india. Vehicle manufacturers are still not in the right direction irrespective of their profitability. Basics ki ma ki aankh hai sabki.
Watched many REVIEWS ON "HIMALAYAN 450 ADV" "CHASSIS BREAKDOWN", your video provided the most technical explanation with graphical depiction.
Most comforting with all possible scenarios required, to understand & overcome the problem presented to rider community.
Hope to see worrisome issue & solution reasoned by all riders, clear their emotions by putting some thought.
Thanku for this thoughtful one.
Thank you & cheers.
Thanks brother, your cheerful comment meant a lot. Thanks again 😊
Royal Enfield continues his legacy.same issue had with 411 as well.that’s why I chose ktm 390 adv over Royal Enfield.for Royal Enfield lovers I’m sorry but they should improve the quality..
Very sad to see this kind of experience from Royal Enfield, loyal Indian customers kept the brand alive at their worst times and now we are getting this in return
@@gentlemenandmotorcycles very true…
Now himalayan lost a majority of customers after this , including me 😢
Correct bro, this has changed the perception a lot, and new KtM adv 390 is round the corner so anyways i suggest any one planning should wait.

@@gentlemenandmotorcycles the new KTM adv 399 test mules look BADASS ❤❤❤❤
Stress members are supposed to be reinforced, but not seen in this case.
This frame is supposed to handle extreme load, stress & strain on it as it is an off-road machine. This seems under engineered, little bit more strength in the stress members would have been a lot better. Aftermarket crash guards may cause vibrations but it will affect the joints mostly unless and until there is already a failure point in the member.
Anyone who have studied engg mechanics will know this.
I think the point regarding welding and heat treatment could be the real issue. The steel tube just got torn instead of bending. Since there are too-many welds around that breakage area it could be, because of steel becoming brittle due to the heat from welds.
It’s not any subframe that broke but the main one. It’s the fist attempt of RE with a twin spar frame.
I think a recall is in the pipeline..
First batch of continental gt and interceptor had issues in front suspension, US and Europe got the recall, India never got a recall, only further bikes got it fixed. Indian customers are always taken for granted because of weak consumer laws we have
its not twin spar
Very well explained... my opinion for RE is to come up with strong thick frame and dont bridge the frame with engine i mean this current frame is called the back bone frame ideally they should use doubled cardle frame.
May be resonance frequency and natural frequency issues. But RE exporting motorcycle have different material composition in Europe. Most indian variant has these type of issues.
But it's Amazing motorcycle ❤
Yes even when GT and interceptor had differences compared to indian and export units
I will share my presonal opinion...i have std 500 BS3 2015 model, you know in that bikes crash guards are mount separately with clamps without removing any sort of chasis bolt or any other critical engine bolt ...but in Himalyan i can see engine is connected to chasi and on that leg guard are connected...so problem might increase if bike just may even drop from ideal position...where join may be dmg
Recently my Himalayan bs4 2018 model chassis broke down its seme same Royal Enfield
Don't buy Royal Enfield
There is no chasis break case in Europ or America. Because of strict quality control. And in India here are multiple of these cases have been registered. It is as simple as that. RE is providing us low grade product just for their profit. Tootega nhi to update kaise aayega or maal kaise bikega.
Saste ke chakkar me quality compromise hoti hai ,
Next make India, Indian workers ki quality of work us level ka nahi hai ,
Great video bro covering all the possibilities. It’s pretty clear RE is giving all the lame reasons. Himalayan is an adventure bike and is meant to take much more abuses compared to city oriented motorcycles. RE has doesn’t have cleans history of manufacturing defects. Even hunter had rusting issues within months of purchase. There are lot more advs out there with no such reported issue. Addition of crash guards won’t result in such damages, unless they have made the chassis very brittle and it is failing to transfer the vibrations or loads.
Coming the handle issue, there’s issue in the clamp of 452, would recommend you to switch to those of 411. They are much better.
Yeaaah bro, correct.. their marketing campaign says built like gun, and take it anywhere, my GT still have rusting issues and brakes fails
Brilliant analysis! I have the OEM crash guards same like yours, One thing i noticed is whenever I put the bike on center stand I hear a ***click**** noise. Is this something that should be checked? I installed them at RE service center and they claim its normal. Do you hear the sound while you put the bike on center stand? You have to listen to it carefully though
I daily put it in centre stand last time before night and i never heard such sound. Brother RE mechanics are very notorious to put back less number of bolts than they opened. Please get it checked once and don’t take any risk, i checked mine through myself and then yesterday took it to service centre too to get it checked by them.
it maybe from spring of main stand try lubing stand spring and let me know if this solved the issue or not
Edit: lube both ends of spring as well
@@rahulbhoir1820 actually if you think so, loose chain could also make similar sound but i assume your bike is new so that ideally might not be the case here
@@gentlemenandmotorcycles hmm chain noise is somthing anyone easily noticed so going by his text I replied bt chain noise is possible if chain setting is not done in right way
It may be spring noise try adding chain lube or any bike lubricant on it and try😅
Having this issue on middle weight bike is kinda crazy since it should be a basic requirements for the bike to had strong chassis for adventure bike

I cancel my plan after chassis issue to buy himu 450....... Dil tor deye .,.... RE ne .,..... Ktm chassis are well engineer and bajaj domi & ns have tough chassis than this himu chassis
I have ride my ns200 lakh km in eastern Himalayas.....zero issue ..or..no issue of chassis now planning to get ktm adv 390 after cancelled himu 450
There is a new KTM adv 390 round the corner, you can wait for a newer model
Eicher Motorcycles will continue using buyers as Guinea Pigs, they will continue having quality issues as they still continue concentrating on quantity over quality, and, third, the new Himalayan has kept up the tradition of broken Chassis.
You should have mentioned the metal tube gauge is very thin,!
Yeaah that one point is also important, honestly it should not be that thin ,
This is just excuse this ppl see stunt riders they use after market carsh guards on 1000cc bikes and also this isnt issue with ktm adv 390 or bmw gs
Awesome video and analysis! One doubt related to the handlebar (I have 450 Kamet White) - just got the first service done and handlebar tedha ho gaya thoda sa just the way you described. How to handle this with the service centre in the best way possible? So that ye repeat na ho ye problem?
Mene actually engineers ko ye feedback dia tha ki bike right side ki taraf jaati hai agar chalate hue handlebar se haath hata do. Balance issue lag raha tha. Wo problem thek kardia unhone. But handlebar tedha kardia 🤨
Check with service centre and ask then to fix the handlebar too
Most genuine approach to the issue as on date, bro.
Royal Enfield should respect the brand lovers sincerely.
Thanks brother, it’s not just Royal Enfield , it has become a trend to take Indian consumers for granted.
Meri 20 saal purani glamour m swingarm m cut tha wo nahi tuta ye kese Tut jari
I have used bajaj pulsar dominar , hero xpulse , KTM adv , currently using duke 390 all have heavy after market crash guards nothing ever happened. Went to one of the most harsh roads of upper Mustang .
They purchase commodities from cheap vendors of China & Taiwan to maximize profit. Meanwhile other manufacturers who purchase commodities from reliable and good vendors rarely face such issues. RE should build some reliable vendors.
I m not sure, but as per the pics, both bikes have used the same brand crash guard, if u see. Ek aur chiz ha, ki user ne shayad pehle koi ride wagera me koi rugged terrain par ride, offroad might be Kara hoga which may induce pre damage, jo koi ek jhatke se city me Tut gya. Actually there can a hell lot of reasons. But isko hum legacy of chassis break nahi bol sakte kiu some lakh units of 411 was sold over years, how many cases of chassis break do we know, won't even account for 0.1 percent. Aur dusre bike me hua ki nahi, that too we don't know as all don't do vlogging. There can be many points bro which might have led to this. We can't really normalise it
If you see whole video i said that’s there is very high chance that it’s a leg gaurd issue
@@gentlemenandmotorcycles I know, but if u see both of them uses bandidos pitstop leg guard, so might be issues with their design
I agree with both of your points
@@vorrdegard2176 yeah bro
My bike handlebar is also not aligned well.I have kept my bike for almost two weeks in the Royalenfield service centre, and still my handlebar is not in position.
Well! Thats probably because your handlebars might be defective and they will not accept it and will keep on trying to adjust it to minimise the issue. Same with me, every time i change bikes and jump back to Himalayan i feel it miss alignment too much. Interestingly one guys asked me to check if both my hands are of same length.😂
Buy AOM adventure handlebar. It much better and strong than stock Himalayan handlebar! Best in market currently atleast in India
RE doesn't make bikes for riding, but for selling their spare parts. Which is why RE bike owners visit garages more than any other brand bikes. "Personal experience "
there has been too many quality issues reported for RE Himalayan frame welds. there have been instances of poor welds as well as re-welds of new frames seen. its the weld and quality issue.
Me too was planning to buy Him 450, now I change my mind...I was told it has the best suspension so I was eager to buy...😢

Engine me kaha cherchar kya Chassis he sap bike Himalayan ko toh Brokedown horaha he aap na Experience de bolara hoon Royal Enfield Lena hi Band kardo Jab tak Quality Na inprove nahi karthe 🤬
Engine on the new Himalayan is directly mounted and is a stressed member. Improperly installed accessories with wrong torquing of the bolts are one important reason. A improperly trained mechanic or technician not knowing about this can cause this. It could be improperly designed accessory. Himalayan was actually released in the Himalayas and we have seen several videos of several foreign and Indian press actually riding it in the worst scenarios. Simulations and hardware testing was done extensively.
Use RE genuine accessories and avoid aftermarket ones for now. I personally know several riders who have done a continuous Kanyakumari to Ladakh on new Himalayan. They did not have aftermarket stuff and their bikes are working perfectly till now.
Yes, that could be the case
I have metore 2 years chassis ka issue hey but company not listen and flatu ka service paid service karvti hey with in warranty.
It’s not the company bro, but the service centre, just to avoid paper work, they will never accept the fault. In my GT it huge huge wobbling issue, i kept on saying its a coneset issue, they didn’t listened and asked my to change the tyre then get the rims aligned and then remove accessory windscreen and so on, after 2 year completion when my bike went our of warranty i changed the cone set with my own money and the issue was resolved
Where did you get the barkbusters ? Please share the link if its available online.

Don’t worry brother, go ahead for the delivery, if you don’t want to take any risk, get the OEM crash gaurd

Respect the light men❤✅
There's extra stress on the right side of the chassis because of how the suspension on Himalayan 450 is setup. One suspension is for rebound and one suspension is for damping (SFF - Separate Fork Function), hence the little twist of the chasis which causes extra stress on that region of the chassis.
@@ungalpunga very good observation, this is actually correct about suspension but the Ts are designed in such a way that suspension a symmetry doesn’t transfer to chassis, you see lot of scooters have single side suspension only
Any one knows the name of the crash guard that have been used specifically in this two himalayans ?
Deep analysis bro.
I chose the rather unattractive RE engine guard.
@@ajmersingh6650 good decision for now brother
Bro said that "people are buying Himalayan by expecting reliability" 😅😅😅
Royal is famous for its quality issues, its the only bike company who has consistently giving quality issues in their bike
People buy RE for its brand.. Not for the reliability.. I hope you understand the difference..
Are bhai aapne Abhinav Bhatt ke video dekhe hai ? Unhone jitna Himalayan ko kudaya hai utna to kisine nahi kudaya hoga. Fir bhi uska chasis nahi toota...
Kaha tum aise bogus logonko TRP de rahe ho
Haaaan bhai, Abhinav k videos dekhe hai, aur mai khud bhut abuse karta hu, nothing as such, isiliye i said that there might be chance ki gaurd lagate time engine mount nuts me ched chaad hui hai
@@gentlemenandmotorcycles abhinav also has done weight reduction of his bike and it has lost approximately 26 kgs, so would be difficult for his bike to actually break like this, and he has the tubeless spoke prototype.
@@d3lchan yeah and he is a very experienced and seasoned rider, he might not do those mistakes that other 2 guys did. Just a thought though
@@d3lchan weight reduction has nothing to do with chasis breaking. In this case engine is used as a stressed member, hence we have to be very careful when installing aftermarket accessories. Super Meteor 650/shotgun 650 has a setup wherein the the rear swingarm and it's suspension need to be removed carefully to do any modifications.
@@genuineleo78 very true tho yes.
The standard design on most of the bikes is engine on chassis but himalayan 450 is chassis on top of engine.
That means engine is not sitting on chassis rather engine hanging under chassis that is the problem.
I too have himalayan 450 n I never observed the chassis. Now after this I observed n read the chassis.
God save us 🙏
One thing I am going to do is I will get the after market engine gaurd removed and will install OEM so in case anything breakage RE can take full responsibility

Scrambler owner here. I was gunning for Himalayan before buying scrambler. Mainly because i loved the engine. One day during the test ride i deliberately got off the bike and tried to move it. My God the bike felt top heavy. That means weight is not evenly distributed. And seeing the breaks in the images I feel like weight management could have been a lot better. Scrambler excels in lot of areas. Weight management is one of those. QC should be stricter for RE. They have past breakages with Himalayan, and this would disappoint lot of customers.
You are correct, thats why when i said in my videos that weight is a con in one of my videos people commented in hatered but that’s a fact, you drive ktm adv or Honda 500x , you will not feel its weight
Very good information👍👍👍
Thank you sir
Bhai 15marks wala essay likhra kya ek he chiz bar bar repeat kar raha

No its different from 411’s , and i bought it from showroom of RE, you can also go there and get it installed
Ok thank u
Bajaj dominar ns rs. , ktm duke rc are the best value for money chassis very strong not just some pipes
I really like the looks of the Himalayan 450. As an European I really was interested in this bike. Watching this I really consider to buy a CFmoto 450 instead. Sorry RE, you better improve your QC or you wont sell any Himalayan in my country.
Chinese manufacturers have come a long long way from copy cats to really good motorcycles. I am really impressed with CF moto’s few of the latest offerings and i feel CF MOTO 450mt could be better than Himalayan with its parallel twin engine . It makes 4 bhp more and 5 NM torque more compared to himalayan
More power does not always mean that its better. It means it has more power. But from a manufacturer that isn't as long on the market as RE, they make good and affordable bikes and quads.
The Himalyan debacle continues even with the 450.RE has old habit if blaming the customers rather than accepting their mistakes.
RE bikes are not reliable and rider does not have much control on the bike.. Had couple of accidents..I sold the GMG classic and bought highness..
🔔 crash guard se chassis tut jata hai metal kaun se grade ka lagaya hai RE ne bike user ko clear karo .
don’t buy RE
It depends on lot of factors not just material, geometry and the way gaurd is mounted
Bro.... where is the after market crash guard ? That company is blaming ?
You are asking which company after market crash gaurd was it
Next they will say not using RE gloves or shoes causing this
if you had issues with gt650 and the company is doing nothing to solve the issue for you then why did you even buy the 450
the cone set issue of the 411 still existed in their last update in 2023 so 2016 to 2023 thats 7 years no solution
If you are correct it must have happed in an accident only. If the torque of nut not proper its thread will ruin not the chasis.
No, if you tight it more then also a nut can cause create issues, in tightening torque is given for all bolts in very specific numbers
@@gentlemenandmotorcycles I never seen chasis breaking due to over tight nuts. If the nuts are over tight, threads of the nut will be damaged or bolt itself will be broken.
