Railfanning Former Pan Am Railways District 2 in April 2023

Toward the very end of March, I decided to buy myself a smartphone holder that I could mount on my tripod. Up until this point, I had been holding my phone in my hand, while I put the camera on the tripod. This would enable me to capture way steadier footage, and allow me to put more of my focus on operating my camera (which I wasn't able to do much with anyway because it's not at all good at night shots). Once I also figured out that taking footage in 60fps had no impact on the battery life of my phone, I now decided to do 60fps for all of my filming.
In April, I caught my first ever NHN freight, first in Rollinsford with D7 pulling onto the CSX mainline, and then at the Downeaster station as L065. When I discovered that road freight M427 would arrive only a half hour later, I decided to stay for those as well. Night time railfanning was brand new to me, and I wasn't exactly keen on staying out so late, but I wasn't going to bed before ten anyway. As the daylight hours increased though, these trains wouldn't be remaining obscured by night for long.
Catching 687, 688, L065, and then M427 would become a fairly regular routine in the future months, as it was very easy to get a lot of action during evenings after work.
