  • There has been a lot of interest in toroidal propellers for quieter drones and boats. Here is a parametric model useful for experimenting with them. Again, using Blend curve to let FreeCAD do the work.

Wow…..Wow….Wow………You are brilliant! I have been looking for a tutorial just like this. I have been in FreeCAD for about a year and consider myself a beginner to intermediate user. This video has MANY new components and concepts. You have a awesome teaching style coupled with content rich material. I have been struggling with attachment modes….I would greatly appreciate a video on this …..at a lower level of application.

Stay tuned, I have a video on attachment and attachment modes in post-production now. It will be part one with at least one other part in planning.

I really like your channel and how you present ideas. Thank you for doing this.

When I type in .Attachment.Rotation.Angle it says the property isn't found. In fact, typically when typing in you'll get popups with suggestions. When starting to type in "Attachment" nothing pops up, unlike if I type "Placement" which brings up menu with Placement available as option. Using build 0.22.

Thanks for your video. I wonder if you can help me with the trouble I'm having in reproducing what you have done. My problem is with the blend curve. I'm trying to blend between the bottom anchor and midpoint anchor. I can't make it work. The blend curve attaches to the bottom anchor but will not attach to the midpoint anchor. The resulting curve isn't attached to anything at that end. I set up a few experimental sketches to sort out what is going wrong. If the attachment mode for my sketches is deactivated I have no problem with blend curve on from edges on multiple sketches. As soon as one of the sketches is attached to the midpoint scaffold, the blend curve is no longer happy. I'm using V0.21.0 but it doesn't work on V0.20.2 either. Any thoughts on what I am doing wrong?
Thanks for your very useful videos.

Just an update to the above, there is a new blend curve tool in the surfaces workbench with V0.21.0. This tool seems to behave in the way the curves workbench tool does in your video.

I'm having a similar issue, but it's with the sweep tool. Instead of following the path it seems to be shooting way out about 5x pass the outer radius

For whatever reason, everything seems to be going well until I'm trying to adjust the height of the upper and lower anchors as the end of the video. The properties are greyed out and there doesn't seem to be any way to move them now?

I'm not sure what's going on. In mine, it's adjustable. What version of FreeCAD are you using? The only case where I have seen Position fields grayed out is if a formula has been set or if the object has been attached to something.

Should the blade profile be symmetrical, though?

That's a good question. The design is just a starting point for experimentation and your question is why I made the blade profile easy to change.
