I am from US and I have serious respect and admiration for Russian aviation. With brilliant designers and hard-working builders and maintainers they have mastered the vast and difficult terrain of their country. When all of our people work together, anything can be made possible.

I got to see one of these in Northern BC. It flew up from Vancouver with a huge piece of an OSB mill that it lowered into the plant. It stayed here for a few months doing some big gasfield jobs. Last time I saw it, It flew away with a bridge that had 2 dually F350 service trucks parked on it.

I can still recall seeing this Leviathon during my stints on tour in Kandahar, Afghanistan. It was always a pleasure to watch it start-up, taxi out from its parking location and depart for some location. Back in those days, it hauled freight as well as was used to transport personnel. I have always been an aviation buff, with particular attention towards helicopter flight and always marveled at seeing the Mi-26 start-up, go through its taxiing, take-off, and landings. This helicopter is one phenomenal piece of Engineering! Thanks, Air-Clips for making this video!! The surroundings that we are able to see was quite lovely too. Lovely green surroundings.

Very nice, what a great experience. Interesting that Belarus rents our their emergency service helicopters to tourists.
One minor correction: high-power turbine helicopters don't have a main rotor clutch, so when the main rotor is stationary that means the main engines have not been started yet, so not everything is "up and running". The noise before the main engines are started is the auxiliary power unit (APU), providing power for starting the main engines and for all systems before the main generators powered by the main engines are online. There is no point in starting the main engines a long time before they are needed, turbine engines don't need a lengthy warm-up phase so you can start taxiing as soon as they are running.

Give idea of just how big this chopper is. Flying tribute to Mikael Mil and his design bureau. Few countries could build really big rotary wing aircraft like Mil. Good get. Love it.

Just found this video and channel. Great detail and a fuller experience than I could have imagined. As others have said, watching the crew of 4 preparing and flying this monster with all the instrumentation and physical switches and meters was better than just sitting in one place. Great video and channel. A pity so many people are viewing this in the context of current events - the Wiki entry shows the humanitarian and logistical history and achievement so much more fully. Great engineering.

We flew in a Russian military Mil 26 in '92 in Cambodia from Battambang to Phnom Phen. It was part of their contribution to the UNTAC and seriously needed some servicing and TLC. We were their as Australian contingent with 6 Blackhawks. They asked us for some Jet oil, we gave them a box of 6 quarts, but they really needed a drum of 44 gallons!!! OMG the threads were visible on the tyres. Luckily we arrived at our destination safely.... Kudos to the Russians for building them strong and seemingly capable of flying with minimal servicing:-))
