As a Malaysian Chinese, I grew up eating marmite. We used to mix it in hot water to make marmite soup if the dishes that day is too dry. Alternatively, we also use marmite to mix with plain porridge/congae. And in chinese restaurant, they serve pork ribs marinated with marmite.

Enjoying your commentary Anna. About that last joke where auntie Hersha Throws all that stuff into the wok: I laughed because I thought she was having a go at the whole hipster movement where people have gone overboard with the so-called fusion and sometimes have no context or understanding of the ingredients they are using and so it just becomes a mess. I think it’s a gentle dig including at herself because she acknowledged in the Chinatown video with uncle Roger that she and her friends all considered her to be a coconut. Like you I really like her because she knows not to take Herself too seriously, but also be kind to herself and everybody else ... so her sense of humour is just so therapeutic and what the world needs. Look forward to more of your commentary. PS I have lived in the UK with lots of Asian friends, now living in Australia with lots of Asian friends, One of who introduced me to uncle Roger. He’s hilarious And although he does make lots of jokes about cultural misunderstanding, I also think he comments on the generation gap between millennials and their parents And also that we all have an uncle Roger type uncle or elders in our lives regardless of our cultural background. They are that kind of paternal Toughlove that helps us to get through life

Not universally. In some Indian families rice dishes are usually eaten with a spoon. If the vegetables have a lot of juice, particularly some dahls and pulses, it is harder to roll up the rice together in a ball and throw it into your mouth.

The reason a spoon is not the 'go to' eating utensil in 'Western Table Etiquette' for eating anything but soup and/or deserts, is the very reason you suggested they should be used, for their efficiency in getting food into your mouth. Using a spoon to eat, say Egg Fried Rice, would give the appearance that you need to 'shovel the food into your mouth' quickly, relaying the impression your appetite is insatiable or as commonly referred to, 'being a pig'. Great video!

I don't use leftover rice, I use freshly cooked rice as I always finished the portion I cooked. However, after I cooked rice for fried rice purpose, I'll leave it air dry for half an hour. It is just as good as leftover rice. However, I tend to use long grain rice to cook fried rice. So far I've yet to master the skill of cooking fried rice by using Taiwanese/Japanese/Korean rice, the more sticky types.

Oh and ALSO, as a person that HATES Marmite in general, my partner uses it as a kind of 'umami' flavour deepening seasoning in stocks, stews and most savoury meaty dishes and I gotta say it is actually REALLY good. You just gotta dilute it a little, maybe add some soy sauce too and don't skimp on the seasoning like chives onion and garlic. It probably doesn't taste as good as msg BUT it still improves the taste immensely.

Auntie Hersha is really a lovely lady, she's quite funny and friendly. It was nice to see them do this video to help people soften back up to her. I understand being a little traumatized by the first video she did, but that's never a reason to be hateful and nasty to her as a person. There's lots of people that cook way worse than her *cough Jaime Olive oil cough*

I think that's how indian cook rice... Like they will cook with lots of water n then drain the starchy water.
The end result is a somehow fluffy rice... Not the firm rice in chinese fried rice

when making fried rice we dry the rice too or just use stale rice. I think its more of a common sense thing, those chefs just do something like this foe a quick video i guess. Almost every household in india has a rice cooker.

WHAT??? - "The UK has a slight reputation for having the best food in the world"?! - This is outrageous! You nearly gave me a heart attack! You are listening to evil propaganda Anna 😮 - I lived in Manchester for a spell and the food was so horrible that I ended up living on KitKat and Onion Pies 😬
...but as you correctly mention, Indian food in the UK is excellent. So whenever I wasn't too sick from the KitKat and Pies, I dragged myself to an Indian place and had a feast! Even the simplest dishes were delicious!
    - Has your father disowned you because of Jamie Oliver's bad Italian food?
I enjoyed watching this, Niece Anna is delightfully honest 👍👏🙏
Thanks for the Ottogi Sesame Oil tip!

hey this is totally random but one time when I was homeless and I was making food in my camp I didn't have any way to eat the food but I had went to a circle k which is an American convenience store I don't know what you guys have in the UK or in Asia but I got 8 wooden coffee stirrers and a straw, you know like a plastic drinking straw actually got double that and I made a pair of chopsticks out of straws and coffee stirrers.
