Ahh, thank you so much!! I’m so, so glad it was helpful! 🥰🥳 If you need any advice or anything about what it’s like to study art history (both undergrad and grad school), I actually just recorded an episode all about that here: What's it like to STUDY ART HISTORY (undergrad, grad, & more)?! th-cam.com/video/xbU7WTBte48/w-d-xo.html And you can always DM me on Insta if you have any questions!! :)
Hi. I am a dad of a high school senior who wants to study AH and potentially work in a museum, maybe. Heard your entire video frankly to educate me as I am an engineer(podcast was excellent!) and noticed you studied at UIC and worked in Chicago. My daughter got into UChicago. Have not been able to find much about their AH program. Any insight you may have on their quality of their program vs a reputable state school? Obviously price is a factor. Thanks, RO
Hi Roger! Thanks so much for reaching out!! And congratulations on your daughter getting accepted to UChicago! That’s a FANTASTIC school, especially for Art History. The great thing about many colleges and universities in Chicago (from my experience attending and working at a few) is that the professors from one school will likely teach at another school nearby. For example, I attended Columbia College Chicago for my undergraduate degree (because, at the time, I was pursuing graphic design) and a lot of my professors also taught at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, DePaul University, UIC, Loyola University, and UChicago! So, all that to say that if price is a big concern, your daughter could receive a similar education from another school that’s a little less expensive. I do want to warn you, though, there can be a higher perceived value of a degree from UChicago, especially if she wants to work in museums. I would also strongly encourage her to consider looking at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago since they literally have a direct connection to one of the top art museums in the US. I also really loved Columbia College Chicago for my undergraduate degree, though it’ll have a little less “prestige” than UChicago (even though the professors in that program also teach at the aforementioned schools I listed previously. Sorry for the novel, but I hope this helps out and please feel free to email me with any other questions and I’m more than happy to help out in any way I can!! And, again, congrats to you and your daughter on this amazing accomplishment! :)
@@AmaraAndrewThanks for feedback! It was what we (I)needed. Today my daughter accepted offer to UC. Will be moving from GA this fall. UC is tremendously known for economics and business. Glad to hear it carries some weight in AH as well! So if AH is the major she pursues we hope she also pursue a minor in either one of those. That’s all up to her! But we will definitely encourage her to network as you suggested in podcast. Once her finals are done and she graduates I’ll encourage her to reach out to you, if you don’t mind, should she have some questions of her own.
@@rogerortega3563 Hi Roger! So sorry for the delayed response! My business has been a little hectic lately! Congratulations on her accepting her offer to UC!!! That’s so exciting! 🥳🥰 And absolutely tell her she can contact me with any questions! I’m easiest to reach on my Instagram (link on my page), so I’d definitely recommend for her to reach out to me there! All the best to you and your family, Roger!! 🥰
I enjoyed every second of this episode. Super helpful and inspirational. Thank you!!
