- The video shows the memorial ceremony with wreath laying at the former Lilienthalstrasse cemetery in Berlin-Neukölln. The event on Lilienthalstrasse is the traditional memorial ceremony of the German War Graves Commission and the foreign military attachés in Germany. This is why this video begins with a short statement by the British Army Attaché Colonel Simon Hirst. This is followed by pieces of music played by the Bundeswehr Staff Music Corps under the direction of Captain Holzschuh. The memorial speech is given by the President of the Police Headquarters, Dr. Dieter Romann. Here is the program:
0:13 Statement by Colonel Hirst and formation of the torchbearers
1:50 Entry of the guard of honor
2:57 Entry of the Staff Music Corps and piece of music
5:28 Welcome by the General Secretary of the Volksbund
7:19 Commemoration of the deployment
8:46 Piece of music
10:44 Memorial speech by Dr. Dieter Romann
23:50 Wreath laying
38:30 Remembrance of the dead
40:50 Prayer and blessing
45:13 I had a comrade
46:15 National anthem
47:26 Torch bearers march out
RIP an alle Opfer egal welcher Nation.🙏💜
🥲 Danke für die Gedenkfeier und vielen Dank für das Video.
Danke, es folgen weitere Videos zum Volkstrauertag.
Thank you for sharing this ceremony. I write this comment on Sunday, November 17 at 14 : 15. This morning I went to this cemetery to pay my respects and light a candle and was absolutely shocked to see a small group of 5 young people openly drinking beer, climbing up into the roof area of the entrance/exit under the cross. Two of them also wandered into the cemetery itself to relieve themselves. I am still shaken up and very sad because to see the level of disrespect and disregard for what this sacred place is - the final resting place of thousands of war victims....there simply are not words. I already go up there once a week and pick up trash because unfortunately, there are often times homeless and also not homeless, but alcohol and drug abusers that throw their trash down here. Something needs to be done to protect this beautiful place. The people buried here deserve better than this. It used to make me very angry and that has morphed into just making me very, very sad. This kind of behavior shouldn't be happening here and there is even a police station nearby. ... I'm sorry for the details in my comment, but I did not expect to see what I saw today. It is heartwrenching.
Thank you for this information. It's just unbelievable how disrespectful some people are!
@@heinrichgerken4469 It is very shocking and getting worse. My husband is German and has had no success finding out who to report about this to. This type of behavior has no place in the cemetery and especially not on Volkstrauertag. These souls deserve to rest in peace and have their final resting places treated with love and care and respect.
@@krissalouvae7513 I agree with you!It is certainly difficult to protect such cemeteries. We must appeal to people's common sense. There are enough places where people can meet. Not exactly here.
I am a member of VOLKSUND and will mention this topic at the next meeting!
Eindrucksvoll und sehr würdig!
Sehr Würdevoll !! Wir werden EUCH nicht vergessen ( Frauen / Kinder / Soldaten ) 💐
Das Volk ist nicht edel, das seine Toten nicht ehrt.
