The thing about mental health is that it can happen at any time. And while yes, there are other people out there with worse lives, it still doesn't mean that the life of someone suffering isn't terrible for them. As someone who dealt with mental health problems for 11 years I can honestly say it's one of the worst things. A lot of the time it defies logic. With a terminal illness, you know what's wrong with you. With mental health it isn't that easy. And when you are trapped inside your own head, and your thoughts consist of nothing but darkness, it is truly scary. For me the concept of swapping lives and places with someone else isn't as simple as it seems. Everyone goes through something that's truly harrowing to them. Expecially with mental health. When you wake up every day feeling so empty and dead inside knowing you have another day ahead of you full of dark thoughts. I understand your point here for sure, I just think psychology and mental health is not as black and white as it may seem. It's extremely complicated and can be extremely tragic. If someone lives a happy life, it doesn't mean they're happy mentally. They usually say the happiest people are the ones suffering the most. I dont know, for me the concept of comparing lives seems sort of pointless for no one can really swap lives. We each have our own individual struggle that is specific to us. While someone may be dying of starvation for example, we aren't experiencing it. That's why I believe to compare one life to another doesn't necessarily work.
Great video Derek. I like when a video gets you thinking. For the record no hate on my side here, just my opinion on your topic. Very relaxing video, hope all is well friend.

Couldn’t agree more!! Our lives are all so relative and I don’t believe comparing will fix anything. I think gratitude is important - “I’m grateful I have a home”. But saying I have a home and others don’t as a way to show yourself that you have nothing to be anxious or sad about is not fair. Thanks for sharing this!

I certainly agree that simply knowing someone has it worse isn't going to fix a problem but I do think it is the start of the healing process. So many people think they can fix what is wrong on the inside with something from the outside (potent meds). Not saying they don't have a place but certainly they are way over prescribed. Something happened in society recently and it has created this onslaught of mental illness. Kids used to bring guns to school because they had shooting classes...there was never a school shooting. Now these kids are pumped full of meds and we have school shootings everyday. I certainly don't claim to have the answers but I do know social media has people comparing themselves to others the opposite way. Everyone sees others living better than them and that is what they focus on. If we focus instead on who has it worse than us, I believe it truly is a much healthier and much more empathetic way to live. No hate taken from you on this. I appreciate your insightfulness and opinion!

I completely get how your client is feeling. First of all, motherhood hits women's hormonal balance (and neurotransmitters) like a truck! Takes a toll on our bodies, emotions, and minds. It is exhausting, and the expectations from others and ourselves are high, no matter how good of a mother we are. Additionally, we have to keep up a household and a healthy relationship with our partner. To add to all that frustration, the overwhelming feeling of not being financially independent (even if our partner makes a good living) is suffocating. I would advise her to start working on something she likes and makes her a little money as soon as she feels the time is right for her and her little ones (maybe start by working from home to not miss the most formative years of her kids). More than comparing ourselves to others, let's keep in mind that we will never fully meet others' expectations, so we might as well focus on ourselves, work on who we want to become and do what makes us fulfilled, so we can show up happy and confident for our loved ones. At the end of the day, it's not about looks or money... it's about feeling in a good place, like you said, and enjoying the little things in life that make up the little charms of our existence.

Such great insight here! Thank you so much for sharing that. I can tell you that I would not trade places with most stay at home moms. I truly believe it is one of the toughest jobs out there and respect the heck out of them for doing it. I am grateful my mom stayed home with me when I was young and wish every child could have a mother that was able to do it as well. Bless your heart for being a wonderful mom and taking the time to leave this amazing comment for others that might be experiencing similar stressors.

You would reach 10k faster than you would anticipate at this rate and it's only gonna keep growing. That's awesome! I also want to say I love that you only do whispers and not triggers like tapping, eating and whatnot. I personally do not enjoy that aspect of ASMR and just stick to crispy whispers as found in your channel!
