This was pre 1990's. Things are very different post Y2K, not just for little Hong Kong. Somehow globalization didn't go as well as it should have. It is not just about the 'economy'. What does 'economy' mean, really? The balancing act by the world is not balanced, but fooling ourselves. I quote..."If one continues to sit, you will never walk." And the legs will just get weaker. Everybody doing BIG unnecessary things in their own little world thinking they are not having an effect on others and everything. I do small things in my own little world, and the effects are insignificant, negligible enough.
Thanks for your opinion! We are sorry that subtitle is not available for the episodes. Simultaneously, we will be continuously enhancing our channel's content to cater to the preferences of our viewers. Thank you.
Hong Kong can neither rely on China or the West (UK, USA). Yet both struggle to control it. Such a small geography with so many people, and physically attached to China. Does not have much natural resources or land, only a good amount of coastline, though quite polluted by the 80's. Scary.
The family with 3 girls...and the husband/father would seem like a 'loser', 'lowlife', who slapped his wife at the police station because one daughter became lost or missing at the supermarket. This is an average to below average income family in Hong Kong '80's and '90's. There are such 'losers'/'low life' in higher income and educated, even very well off families. Though it cannot be readily seen, cannot be readily detected. We forget this, when we watch this first episode because it is about the average middle/lower class Hong Kong families trying or struggling to sustain a decent enough life (lifestyle) in Hong Kong. I am just reminding. Kathy Chow Hoi Mei passed on days ago. In a short, she said 'China is her ancestral parent country, Hong Kong is her family (home).' She loves both. I believe she misses her Hong Kong. In a separate interview, she also said that the men of Beijing tend to be more 大男人, while in Hong Kong the men tend to be a bit more 'sweet' and more willing to accommodate. The Alex Man Hong Kong character found a little brother from China, Francis Ng. Both new in Australia.
