Shane thanks for including my puppy potty automation. Can’t believe Ellie got featured. She now is more sassy because she is TH-cam famous. Family had lots of laughs and congrats about it. Keep up the great content! Watch every live stream and video.
@@ShaneCreates I don’t see a link where I can buy the Smart Dog in the description of this video 😂 I’ve just started using Apple HomeKit. Your channel gives me tons of information and inspiration. Great idea to post automations from other users.
Thanks Shane for showing my automation. One thing to note on my Shower door/Hair Curler automation is I did this because there is no on/off button/switch on the hair curlers. When they are plugged in, they are on, and when you unplug them, they are off. So hence the automation, so she doesn't have to remember to plug and unplug them.
Thanks, Shane. Fun and interesting video. Please do more. Now that I see how you're using them and get a better idea of what you're looking for I'll even send a couple for the future. The video also prompts me to get my butt in gear and get a couple of automations going that have been on the back burner for quite awhile. Great job to you and those who submitted their videos!
These videos are great, Shane. We all use our smart homes in different ways, so I love getting ideas from people accomplishing tasks that I wouldn't normally do. My favorite was definitely the automated lights when a gate is opened. Thinking that I may find a way to combine that and the multiple motion sensor idea in my backyard to create a way to deter animals from feeling comfortable in my yard.
Great video. I also added a few things to my Fire/CO1 alerts. I have a smart switch on my furnace. Turn off the Furnace/AC so it doesn't circulate smoke throughout the house. Shut off the furnace and open my garage door if CO1 is detected in either the house or garage. I also have smoke and CO1 professionally monitored by my security system in case I can't received a notification (on a plane, etc) to call the fire dept.
Keeping the cats out by sprinklers is not only clever but very entertaining. 😂 Double points for that. It won’t take long for them to learn to avoid the yard.
These are some amazing automations!! The Tesla trunk and dog bell automations are crazy cool. Might have to teach my dogs that bell trick haha. Great video and thanks for featuring my gate left open automation, Shane!
Great ideas in here! Definitely keep these coming. I’ll have at least two to share including a set for the home office to ensure I’ve got everything set the right way for a client call with the touch of a Flic button.
I use the first alert z-wave smoke/CO detector as well and have it turn all the smart lights on full and unlock all the outside doors. Also I have a ecobee thermostat that is homekit compatible and i also have my HVAC system turn off. This keeps smoke/carbon monoxide from being distributed throughout the house as well. I have 3 of these installed and i have google assistant tell which type (smoke or carbon monoxide) that has triggered and which detector that has detected the smoke/carbon monoxide.
Loved the video! It’s always interesting to see how people set up their particular automations. Ellie the dog letting his owner know she needs to go out is genius and won my heart! ❤ also… we live in a time when you can add a freaking CAR to Homekit. How’bout that!
Shane , I love all your videos . Can you help me with my question ? I’m looking for HomeKit supported Water Shut-off valve & water leak sensor ? Could you recommend a good product ? Thanks in advance 🙏
Love your content. Any suggestions to get Phillips Hue to sync while using multiple HomePods? HomePods setup as Hubs by default. This seems to cause a problem for Hue. Any suggestions?
Great video! I also use Smart Smoke/Carbon Monoxide detectors (Onelink) and when either upstairs or downstairs detects smoke all main lighting turns on and all accent lights (Eve Flare-LED Strips-Aquara Hub) turn RED.
Hey Shane, I like this new format! It would be great to have also some more insights on how to implement the rules! For example, for the cat deterrent, how did the he configured the rule in homekit to check if at least 2 of the 3 motions sensors have been triggered?
Hi Dave I used Home+ app. It allows you to use: When this happens “Outside Motion detection” is YES and under these conditions (where you can have multiples which are effectively AND statements) “Outside Hue Motion Tree” is YES “Outside Hue Motion Fence” is YES.
Thanks for watching Mike. Stay tuned for the next announcement for submissions. People seem to like the video so I imagine we'll do another in the future.
Love this...thanks for the "forum". Here's my struggle/set up- MyQ garage door opener through home bridge, Aqara Door/window sensor. I'd like for when the garage door is open for more than X minutes, to close it. Best I can do r/n is for an alert through the MyQ app reminding me OR an hourly trigger to shut it through the MyQ app (at noon, 1, 2, 3, etc shut the door). I don't know shortcuts/automations enough to set up the if/then to actually shut the door based on amount of time open. Anyone done something similar?
Great video Shane. Thanks for the channel. My morning routine turns on the lights, shades, and the Samsung Frame TV. Outside routine turns on the Sonos speakers, pool lights and deck string lights. Thanks for the tips to try something new.
These were some really good automation. My favorite is the one to keep the cats off the lawn. I have a few that I would like to share. I use Aquara temp/humidity sensors to trigger a TreatLife smart wall switch to turn on the bathroom exhaust fan when the humidity reaches 70%, then it turns the exhaust fan off once it gets below 60% humidity. This works flawlessly in both of my bathrooms and helps keep humidity under control during showers. The other one is an outdoor smart plug that has a dusk to dawn sensor that turns on my landscape lights. I have an automation that turns on both my front and back porch lights at 10% brightness when the smart plug turns on the landscape lights via the dusk/dawn sensor. I like having my porch lights on dim all night, so this is a great automation. To go along with that, I have an Aquara motion sensor on both the front and back porch that will brighten the porch lights to 100%, only at night, if motion is detected. After 5 minutes, the lights dim back down to 10%. I could go on and on. I love this stuff.
Thanks Hans! This one is pretty straight forward. You can even see a glimpse at 6:39. Just a simple automation that says when the smoke detector detects smoke, turn on all the selected lights.
Thanks for featuring my cat deterrent. Anyone have ideas for when it’s winter and too cold for hose related automations? I thought about having a SwitchBot pull at some fishing line which has jingle bells attached. Would that work I wonder to deter the neighbourhood cats during the winter months with below 0°C weather.
I have a question about the automation that keeps the cats from peeing on his lawn. How do you prevent the automation from happening when humans are on the lawn?
I have mine setup when i leave for work in the morning it turns all lights off, starts my roomba’s, sets the thermostat to away, and sets the alarm. The alarm arming automatically triggers the door locks to lock and closes the garage just in case I forgot to close it.
You saved the best for the last there Shane! 😂 Being someone that doesn’t listen to the radio I had to pause and look up Ginuwine’s Pony but knew it from the jump. The doggo switch is probably my favorite but I sure hope it doesn’t confuse it with treat time or the lights will be flashing all the time. Maybe Glen in Canada isn’t familiar with the RV life but we have heat strips that automatically turn on and off when the temps hit just above freezing. But where’s the fun in that right?! Great job Mr. Whatley! 💪🏼😎👍🏼
Loving the cat sprinkler’s especially using multiple sensors to avoid false alarms But I can see no way in HomeKit to set up something like this. All automations seem to only start with a single sensor so does anyone know how this is done?
You would need to use one of the third party homekit apps (Controller for homekit, Home+, Eve app) to create the automations and allow you to add conditions.
I had to throw out my eve aqua as the thing would just constantly leak, which apparantly is very common. I have loads of eve homekit gear but the Aqua was just trash!
I wonder if you were using the previous model. They were more prone to leaking. In 2022 they redesigned the product, which now features a brass fitting, instead of a plastic one. This should make it more reliable and last longer. I've heard of people having issues with previous models contact them and get a replacement unit.
That’s some awesome stuff Shane! Lots of cool things that people are doing…I may have to adjust my ‘SexyTime’ Scene to include a Playlist. 🤣 Thanks, as always, for the content.

Glad you enjoyed it! Sure, feel free to ask questions in the automations channel if your unsure how to set it up. You’d probably need to use one of the 3rd party homekit apps so you can add conditions and/or multiple triggers.
None that are “plug and play” work with HomeKit natively. You’ll have to use HomeBridge or hoobs to get an IR blaster to work with homekit. Some do support Siri Shortcuts though like the SwitchBot hub mini and the Aqara M2 or Aqara G3.
I showed my contractor my setup for my lamp in my bedroom and his head nearly exploded because he didn’t know you could do that. He didn’t know smart bulbs were a thing, and he just thought it was so cool that you could “hook it up” with a smart button to turn on and off. I like the neighbourhood cats but the last straw was when they were using the grass as a toilet and digging at the grass. It was the friendliest method I could think of. It has the added benefit of giving the grass some random watering powered by HomeKit and cats (© JME 2022, 2023)
