@@ManexCorp Sounds to me like you don't know the difference between a layer 2 switch and a layer 3 switch. You likely also don't know the difference between an ethernet switch and ethernet hub. This video used IPX, Netbui and TCP/IP all are not layer 2 specific but none require routing if connected to the same switch. In other words, TCP/IP is NOT required on an layer 2 switch.

      @@James_KnottWow, what memories you brought!
That’s because the SW used to transfer files using serial and parallel port between 2 computers was named Lap-Link, so people used to name the cable used for that after the SW!
It was like a miracle to connect and transfer data.
I remember there was no internet and only few people got the pin diagram for the cable but kept it for themselves charging big amount of $$$ to sell. I fought for months to get the pin diagram and make me that cable and finally be able to connect, transfer and also to play Need for Speed III with my brother, lol 😂

I think it’s always great to learn from history no matter what the context because it gives you a deeper understanding, relevant knowledge of how we got to the present day. So to answer this question David, yes anything on the history of networking is great content for anyone in an aspiring network related job!
I am currently in the classroom doing my CCNA this week at a cisco cert training facility and I was joking about the amount of acronyms there is.. I find it easier to have a visual representation, along with the history, the full name of the acronym.. rather than just being told a bunch of letters on the fly through. I have found there is a lot of these acronyms in this field so far and constantly not following the content due to not knowing all about the acronyms :D Thank and keep up the great work D. Bombal!

in fact, what you just explained is the space between the layers of the OSI model. :-)

Fantastic video! Historical context is essential for recognising the evolution of technology (as you stated). Not every city and town has the budget and infrastructure to get the latest and greatest technologies, thus they become a bit of a step back in time when dealing with their community. Definitely interested in more videos like this.
