🤔 Ever wondered how to sail in the night? In this video, I'm talking about my first experience setting sail alone through the pitch-black night ➡ th-cam.com/video/z2Bme9XKMfY/w-d-xo.html
Boat life is hard. It's not as hard if you have a lot of money, but the weather, the waves and current don't care how much or how little money you have.
That's so true. Thanks for your comment. That nature doesn't care about you, is what I like about sailing. You either have the skills to handle wind, waves and sails, or you have to deal with the consequences. Though, what I like most about boat life is the reduced minimalist life. Problems you have on land, don't exist out there.
Living aboard a sailboat is not an easy life. I don't know why anyone would want to limit himself in that way. So doing, does not free one from the reach of governments, taxes, laws, or other constraints. It is an additional constraint and a severe one. To maintain a boat is hard work. Something always needs attention, repair, maintenance, replacement. The work most often is tedious, arduous, challenging. It requires hard effort, skill, knowledge, and time. It is expensive. Replacements are costly. Sailboats not used for a livelihood, fishing or transportation, are owned by people with money, people who can afford to pay for the expensive materials that have to make up a sea-going vessel. There is a saying often repeated, "The two happiest days of my life have been the day a bought a sailboat and the day I sold it."
Thank you so much for taking the time to leave a comment! You’re right-living on a sailboat isn’t easy, and maintenance is constant. In Germany, you’re required to be registered in an official apartment or house anyway, so it's not about avoiding rules. For me, it’s about embracing freedom and adventure. The challenges are real, but the rewards-like the connection to the sea and the sense of accomplishment-make it all worthwhile.
You should find a quote with which everyone is not familiar. As people get older, they like projects, such as boat maintenance. Nothing beats linseed oil and turpentine on teak. I suggest you stay home and sit on the couch all day. There are two types of people: Those who complain about noise, and those who make noise. Take your pick. If I were you, I'd stay home and complain. On the other hand, you could engineer new parts for sailboats to reduce maintenance costs. For instance, why the Hell are they still building decks with a wood core? Jesus Christ. The core should be a honeycomb grid made from plastic, not from sheets of balsa wood.
