Listening while thru hiking the appalachian trail. Officially three months in and 1530 miles completed. Y'all have been getting through all of the rainy days on trail. Appreciate every episode old and new. Bonus shoutout to Peter Dorans lovely song. Cant help but sing aloud as I listen.
I listen on TH-cam during my walks. One of my favorite moments in a day. RE: dollar store. While my husband and I were graduate students, Dollar Store was a life-saver. I really appreciate Ryan’s more empathetic comment. There are ways to utilize what the chain has to offer during difficult times. I think talking about a way to be more intentional/minimalistic given a situation (even at Dollar Store) would be very helpful!
Hey y'all, Excellent pod! Thanks for mentioning our article on "Social Responsible Companies." Defining exactly what *is* a socially responsible company is something we find really important. It's a nuanced conversation and there's plenty to sort through; B Corps vs. Benefit Corporations, CSR, and the issue y'all correctly identify, we aren't "buying our way to sustainability." It would be an incredible pleasure to dive deeper into this conversation around sustainability/ethics in business and how that nicely overlaps with the minimalist philosophy. Buying *less* perhaps the most direct route to lessening overall demands for consumption, but for when we are to buy, do make the effort to "buy better." The issue of greenwashing, the potency of corporate advertising, and the nuanced spectrum of what it means for business to be "sustainable" or "socially responsible," make this all a little bit more challenging. All good reason for having the discussion! Thanks for doing so, here. And again, would love to take the conversation further with ya'll if possible. 👍 -Cory Ames Founder & CEO, Grow Ensemble
Y’all’s comments on sustainability in the food industry is a big conversation we have fairly regularly too! Not only the obvious junk food/treat world, but things like the meat substitutes that are produced around environmental/animal consciousness but have questionable ingredients in terms of human health…and how much responsibility to educate customers on nutrition is/should be baked into “sustainability” for a company in that space? 🤔
I usually listen to the podcast on a podcast app, I used to watch on TH-cam in the background but don't tend to anymore. Usually I listen while doing chores and tidying up. I actually find it motivating to listen to while decluttering! It puts me in the mood and headspace. Often catch up on missed episodes and I listen to 2 or 3 episodes in a row while doing a clear out and it keeps me motivated 😂
I listen on UTube, in bed, in the car, while doing chores at home. I love that you focus not only decluttering our things, but also our minds, tangible and intangible clutter
I love ending my day listening to your podcast, it’s become a part of my nightly routine. And I’ll admit sometimes your podcast has actually drifted me off into sleep, that’s when I just re-listen to everything that I missed the next night.
I remember a few years, I was out of work and had very little money. I was sad that I couldn’t update my bedroom furniture and decorate it in the French Country Chateau style that was fashionable at the time, I yearned for a trendy room to be proud of. Two years later, I had a well paid job and had some savings to buy the coveted fittings and decor for my dream, French style boudoir. . . . That style was now out of date! I learnt a valuable lesson, that even home style trends are ephemeral and that I would be working to pay for items that would be outdated in a few seasons. So, I spent the cash I had saved on a good quality, orthopaedic mattress instead, painted the bedroom white and slept like (debt free) baby :) Thank you for a great episode. Be well, Sally 🌹
Regarding your comments about Dollar Stores, there is nothing wrong with being selective about what and where you buy items. I buy greeting cards, calendars, toothpaste, crosswords puzzles, and basic spices from Dollar Tree. They are the same items I could buy at Kroger, CVS, etc, but cost so much less at Dollar Tree. If other stores want to compete with Dollar Tree, lower your price and I will shop there for those same items.
The most based, rational, and sensible comment I've seen regarding dollar stores, and it's absolutely true. Always seek items with the most value for what you can afford.
I’m listening/watching your podcast anywhere. Right now I’m drinking coffee at my kitchen and cooking breakfast for myself. Also I listen it in my way to work, in a trip, after work when I want that comfy calm home state of mind and cannot calm myself after stressful day
I listen while doing various things, getting ready for work, over breakfast, exercising, commuting, working. I look forward to starting the day with your inspirational discussions! I just watched The True Cost the other day, a great documentary about the whole fast fashion industry. That was quite interesting. I've been looking more recently into sustainable and ethical living, and this podcast episode fit perfectly. Thank you two and the whole crew for all you do!
It makes me happy you guys still post these videos.. It makes me feel better.. I love love these so much and keep me feeling better and better about my journey in minimalism. I have ADHD, Anxiety, autism, depression, ocd, and PTSD, and it has really benefited me having a minmalist lifestyle and mindset and it's really helped me.. Thank you guys..
I listen to the TH-cam version while in the shower. It helps motivate me and resets my brain to remind me what is and what is not important in life, which stays with me for the rest of the day.
I'm at home enjoying a cup of coffee in front of my computer screen. I'm watching your episode on TH-cam because I like to see you both speaking and interacting.with each other. It makes me feel present in your company and draws me to keep attention to your topic.
Listening to your podcast at home enjoying our retirement. Appreciate getting motivated to purge unwanted/unneeded stuff. Started minimizing by getting rid of a certain number of things each day according to the day of the week (at least 1 thing each on Sun., at least 2 on Mon., at least 3 on Tues., at least 4 on Wed., etc) then starting over again the next week. My husband and I each did this for a month and then switched to getting rid of at least 1 thing each day. We have gotten rid of 581 things so far. Just our version of the minimalist game that is certainly working for us. Thanks.
I usually listen to your podcast while I'm doing housework or going for a walk. Times when I can be on my own without any distractions. I get a lot out of your episodes, and they always keep me motivated, so thank you!
I listen to your podcasts while driving in my car. Thanks for the wonderful content; I appreciate the discussions to help me create a more meaningful and intentional life.
I listen to your podcasts (the free ones and the ones on Patreon) while going on my daily walk through the woods behind my house. It has became so much of a ritual to me, that I associate the opening lyrics and lines with the feeling of fresh air once I’ve stepped out of the house. Your voices keep me company while I walk (although I keep the volume low enough to allow me to enjoy the sounds of the surrounding nature too) and being on my own away from home offers me the peace and space I need to reflect on my life choices while pondering on the episode topic and the ideas you discuss. I do eventually share with my husband what felt most important to me, but the podcast listening by itself is a very private moment that I enjoy by myself. Thank you for it all!
I work from home and love listening to any of your material during my breaks from meetings. I always like to listen when winding down my day to bring me back to calm and remind myself of my values and my intentional living. I’m always on the lookout for additional episodes and so grateful for your work! You are my #1 go to!
Love this backdrop and lighting. Listen to you while cleaning, working out and decluttering. You always say something intriguing. Thank you both. You have changed my life since I began listening.
I am currently listing to your podcast while cleaning, I am also taking some notes as you go. Thank you so much for providing valuable information to us.
I listen to you guys on u tube..while at work.. I work all by myself in my department...so it's perfect to listen because hardly anyone interrupts me...and I get to learn more on how to minimize "stuff" in my life..❤❤
Hi Josh and Ryan, to answer your question, I have been enjoying listening to your podcast while I drive to work. I would love to see you live and can’t wait for your book “Love people, use things” to come out. Thank you
Great episode. I tune in every week. My husband recently offered me his second-hand smartphone. I bought the cheapest handset I could find some years ago in a supermarket, the Alcatel 10.66. Every time I accidentally drop it, I put it back together and it continues to work just fine. I see how others use their smartphones and it puts me off. Why add another distraction... The equivalent of dollar stores are very popular here in the UK. We need to keep in mind that these also sell things that nobody needs. Three years ago, Poundland was accused of wasting plastic as they sold empty heart-shaped packages labelled "Gifts Of Nothing" for Valentines Day. The idea behind it was that if your partner/spouse said he/she didn't want anything for Valentines Day, you'd buy it and say: "Here, you said you wanted nothing!"
I enjoy your podcasts on TH-cam on Saturdays while eating my lunch. It motivates me to get up and add more items to my weekly donation box. Thank you for opening more eyes to a simpler, yet more fulfilling way of living.
I listen to your podcast at the end of my day to leave me with some positive ideas to go into the next day with. While I'm winding down, after hot shower and washing my face- when I don't have other distractions. I've already got so much immense value. I run a financial education business and it's very mentally demanding. This podcast has recently been refueling me. I love the psychology piece to minimalism, because it doesn't have to just apply to physical stuff- but also your emotional baggage and mental demons. Thank you for your content!!!!!
To literally answer your question about where we are when we listen to your podcast, I sit on the couch at 5am doing my morning routine and set up for my working day. Or I cook in the kitchen. So informative.
Enjoying this podcast from the hot tub.Saved FOREVER to buy it and have used it basically every day since last Nov when we hooked it up. Foregoing all the "junk" so I can enjoy what I want and need. It has truly benefited my health and overall being. I love that my 20 year-old daughter also listens to you while stationed in the Airforce in MO. I wish I would have had your insight when I was 20.
I mostly listen to your TH-cam videos while folding clothes, washing dishes, and getting ready for bed. Sometimes I listen during my work commute if I don’t have an audiobook I’m listening to.
I listen to the podcast while folding laundry. I’m able to do something useful and think about the topic of conversation. It’s almost my weekly meditation time, me chill time, the time I take to think of how I can incorporate some of the themes into my daily life.
I listen to the podcasts in my home while cleaning or cooking the majority of the time. The other times is while road tripping or walking. My favorite podcast by far!
Listen outside while I take my morning walk/jog. I really Look forward to it each week..I also go back and watch older episodes since I’m a new listener and beginner minimalist. Love finding this pod after watching the documentaries. (Just watched the second one). Y’all do such a great job at helping motivate and captivate your audience while helping those on their less is more journey. Have a great day everyone! Namaste 🙏
The dollar store sells all sorts of things that IF I needed it, I could save money and have value. For example, I needed a calendar to hang. I needed wrapping paper for Christmas. I did a fundraiser in the community and needed toiletries. I saved a lot of the donation money by buying deodorant and toothpaste there.
I listen to your podcast in my vehicle on my way to work. It helps me start my day in a more mindful manner where other days i want to check out And listen to music
Listening to this episode while I work from home! Thanks for making another great episode! I'm grateful that I live in a city that has refillery stores where I can refill my containers with goods I use every day (soap, body lotion, toothpaste, SPF, laundry detergent, etc.). Less cost because I'm not paying for packaging and less "cost" to the environment!
I listen doing various things: right now It’s early in the morning and I’m listening with a hot cup of coffee and just enjoying it! But usually it’s while I get ready for the day, in the car, walking the dogs or cleaning the house.
I always watch the video version on youtube. I sometimes sit at the end of my day and watch it or I will do what I did with this episode and I will watch it while I cook, eat and do the dishes (depending on the length!)
During the school year, I listen on the way to work and then via earpods while I drink my coffee, and get my classroom set up for the day. During the summer, I listen while doing laundry, walking or any other time I get some time to myself.
You asked where I listen to this podcast. I watch both the public and Patreon podcasts on TH-cam on my laptop in the evenings while I'm prepping food, doing dishes, or tonight stretching.
In response to Josh's question. I listen to the podcast at home while I'm working at my desk, while i'm doing chores and also on a night before I sleep sometimes. Keep up the amazing work 👏🏻
Hey I listen/watch this show on TH-cam or Google Podcasts. I either listen at work, or while driving. Sometimes I am lucky enough to watch / listen while making dinner for family!
I listen to the podcast while rocking my 1 year old to sleep. He won't sleep unless you hold him and walk circles in the room so a podcast is ideal. Usually it takes me two or three nights to complete an episode.
I listen to this to go to sleep. I find your voices are very calming and nice to listen to. I am relaxed lying down and it is nice to wind down and this is where I can retain the information. I used to listen to music to fall asleep. However I used to sing along to the music so it didn’t work. I’ve always liked listen to things fall asleep so now I listen to your voices. Have been doing this for about 5 years listening to you both. Always very insightful. Thank you! Listening on Spotify. With the sleep timer 😀
I only allow myself to listen to the Minimalist video (something I want to listen to) while I run (something I don't want to do, lol). So I listen to the TH-cam video (or Patreon) on my treadmill as motivation to exercise. Which is saying something, that your show is engaging enough to distract me from a hard workout! Thank you!
Just letting you know that I listen to the podcast mostly in the car driving to work but at home while doing housework or while knitting/crocheting which I do almost everyday.
Watching/listening whilst having coffee after a long walk with my two Labs (non-minimalist with my doggos😁). It's right up there with my favorite part of Tuesday.
On a work day, I listen to this on the train to work or on my walk after work. Days off, at home (could be prepping in the kitchen, exercising or cleaning).
I listen on apple podcast in the morning while doing my makeup. & when I want to see your guy’s face expressions, I watch on TH-cam in the living room tv.
I listen to this podcast 1st thing in the am, with a cuppa, either in bed before getting up or at my desk. About buying furniture etc, when starting out you don't have the money, in latter life you have more than enough money - should be the other way round!!
For me it depends - I'm in the UK and I get the notification on a Tuesday. The last few months I've been dropping and picking up my spouse at an evening class and I would listen in the car either waiting or on the drive home. Today I'm listening on you tube in the last hour of work (working from home), while I am finalising end of the day tasks.
This black background is sooo “minimalistic”, suits the idea of minimalism and simple living. Just great And you both look extremely handsome “here” ;)
Hi. In reply to your 'survey request': I mostly listen while working from home (last 15 months). I am about to return to the office for 2 days a week, so will hopefully be able to listen whilst commuting, and occasionally in the office (I have a data-entry job that allows me to do that). Otherwise, I occasionally listen whilst doing household tasks, I.e. filling dishwasher, putting clothes on the line. I listen on an Android phone (Samsung Galaxy A52s 5g), using the Spotify app.
I listen to you all the time, while driving, walking, doing chores and when I sleep.
Listening while thru hiking the appalachian trail. Officially three months in and 1530 miles completed. Y'all have been getting through all of the rainy days on trail. Appreciate every episode old and new.

I’m homemaking/doing housekeeping, and sometimes walking/playing with my dogs every time I’m listening. I love it!
I listen to your podcast in my studio. I’m a painter so while I’m painting I listen to you guys. I love it and I love your ideas about life.

Hi Josh and Ryan, to answer your question, I have been enjoying listening to your podcast while I drive to work. I would love to see you live and can’t wait for your book “Love people, use things” to come out. Thank you
Listen at work! It makes the day go by faster and I can judge how long it takes me to do something from the length of the podcast!
Great episode. I tune in every week. My husband recently offered me his second-hand smartphone. I bought the cheapest handset I could find some years ago in a supermarket, the Alcatel 10.66. I listen to this amazing podcast as I’m meal prepping and cleaning my home. Thank you both!
I listen to your podcast while I get ready in the morning.
I listen to your podcast at the end of my day to leave me with some positive ideas to go into the next day with. I'm at work, listening to you two, while I work, dreaming of another life.
I listen to this podcast while I'm getting ready in the morning/during my morning commute.
I listen to the podcast while folding laundry. I’m able to do something useful and think about the topic of conversation. It’s almost my weekly meditation time, me chill time, the time I take to think of how I can incorporate some of the themes into my daily life.
It's 6am and I haven't been able to sleep yet. So I'm listening to the podcast so that I don't lose my mind. 😂
Thanks guys!

Cleaning the house is my favourite activity to do while listening to your podcast!
Listening while in bed, moving toward getting up and getting on with the day
I listen while cleaning my house and I agree the lighting on your set amazing 🙌
That quote in the end, really transcends everything about what it truly is to be human.
I work for the electric company here in Dallas Texas and i drive a lot from job to job. So, I listen to you guys while I’m driving.

Listen either when driving or during morning coffee!!! Sometimes when I’m doing chores around the house!
Het guys!
I listen the podcast while traveling on train from south of Sweden to the capital.
Thank you for an amazing show!
I listen doing various things: right now It’s early in the morning and I’m listening with a hot cup of coffee and just enjoying it! But usually it’s while I get ready for the day, in the car, walking the dogs or cleaning the house.

Hi @theminimalists! I usually listen to the podcast while out for a walk or while driving, but sometimes I listen to it while working.

I listen to the podcast on You tube while I’m working. Lucky for me I work at home.

Thank you!
I listen to you at work and when I’m driving 👍🏻
I normally listen to the podcast when I’m driving or when I go for a walk. Sometimes I watch it on TH-cam when I’m working.
I typically listen during my commute, in the car. I utilize Apple Podcast, but jumped on here for the comment. Keep up the great work!
Listen to y’all while I’m painting or quilting usually.
I watch you guys on my 2nd monitor (such a maximalist) while doing computer work for my small business (out of my home).
Love listening to you guys while I'm working from home
On a work day, I listen to this on the train to work or on my walk after work. Days off, at home (could be prepping in the kitchen, exercising or cleaning).
Listening to you guys from my kitchen in South America, Colombia 🇨🇴.
Hey all! Great episode as always!
I listen while at work more often than not. I also listen on Google Podcast.
I am in my morning shower while I am listening to you.
I work from home. My phone is set by my laptop. Love your podcasts!
Usually listen to you guys at work! Sometimes when I am cooking or cleaning though. ☺️
Hello, I'm listening while I'm wrapping up my day's work (I'm in Lisbon, Portugal and it is almost 6:30 PM).
Greetings from the UK! 🇬🇧Love you guy’s and your great content👌
I listen here on TH-cam, while commuting to and from work.
Typically in the car or on a walk is where I listen!
I'm listening to you in the UK whilst 'chucking out my chintz' 😂😉. I love your channel and listen to you whilst doing household/ gardening tasks. Xx
JOMO!! The joy of missing out!! 😊
This black background is sooo “minimalistic”, suits the idea of minimalism and simple living. Just great
And you both look extremely handsome “here” ;)
Hello!! I listen to you while I am driving/Spotify or working/TH-cam ;)
Usually listen on a Saturday morning via Spotify while doing my big clean for the week.
