Very good teaching. Lately, I have been reading a lot of devotionals and Christian books. I need to spend more time in just my Bible. In the past month, I've only sat down and done 2 Bible studies. I know because I looked at the journal I've been using and I have 2 entries lol... I agree that not only me, but a lot of people spend too much time taking from other people's opinions on the Bible instead of reading it and letting the Holy Spirit speak.
Special rules: Parables teach one key truth Proverbs are principles not promises Poetry - examine figurative language and structure to determine its meaning Prophecy - almost always a near application and a far application
I will never forget the day the Holy Spirit abruptly spoke to me, 'Stop trying to manipulate Me!' Needless to say God did a major theology correction during that conversation...

Yep 12: The O.T. 10 plus the N.T. Love God with all your heart, mind, spirit, and Love your neighbor as yourself. Some might add from the Lord's prayer: FORGIVE as you have been forgiven...many with learning issues are not identified in this schismatic world.
This is fabulous! How to implement? Every church have as its goal to ensure that every person who 'graduates' youth group has read the Bible in its entirety, understands its basic literary and theological structure, and moreover can give a cogent answer to the five basic challenges: 1. why do you read/believe the bible, 2. why do you believe in God, 3. why do you believe? Too hard? No. We set the bar too low.
Question for anyone who can offer insight.. How can I come to the Bible for comfort, peace or a struggle I am facing without it becoming a Xanax approach? I want to really study and know the Bible but I also hope to be able to look to the Bible and prayer for help when I am weary or really struggling. What is the balance ?
Know the promises of God and preach them to yourself - there are many promises that give us comfort. Matt 28 - he is with us always to the end of the age, James 1 and 4, if we pray for wisdom He will give it and if we draw near to Him He will draw near to us, Matt 11, come to Me all who are weary and burdened and I will give you rest. All of Romans 8 is awesome!! We don't want to turn every Bible verse into a promise for us and into God speaking directly to us, if the context doesn't allow for that (I think the key for you here is understanding context - who is talking to whom and why in each passage)- but there are many amazing promises God makes to His children and to His Church and these all apply to you as a Christian and they are all yes and amen in Him! In other words, they are absolutely certain. Phil 1:6, Jude 24-25, 1 John 1:9, etc etc etc :)
It’s been a while since you left this comment - but I would encourage you to simply read your Bible, asking questions like how does this point me to Jesus? what does this tell me about God? what does this tell me about myself? when we seek to know the truth of who God is through scripture, we get to delight in comfort and peace. Scripture always points us to seeing the goodness, justice, mercy, and sovereignty of God and we can rest in assurance that the God that we come across in our Bibles is the same God that loves and cares for us! The God of Abraham, Isaac, David.. is the same God of us today. That is a truth that brings comfort and relief. I hope this was helpful!
Assume everything in the Bible is applicable Unless: 1. Unless context restricts it 2. Later revelation overrules it 3. It's clearly unique to that culture

Depends where the man's coming from @ 7mins. Being that 10 are the Mosaic Covenant and the other two are the greatest Commandments namely loving God and loving your neighbour as yourself, equalling twelve. The man is correct if he meant it this way. If he meant it this way, she has mistaken him and didn't ask him if he was also referring to the other 2. These other two are the foundation for the 10.

I must respectfully disagree with you on a couple of things. The Word of God is living and active. From a natural view I can see how taking a verse out of context can be dangerous. Common law would be intuitively interpreted and applied to each circumstance by local leaders, while statutory law (what we live by in the US) must be followed exactly. A loving God established covenantal relationship with Israel and marriage was meant to display that. This law comes in because humanity is not loving like God is, and Moses knew that the Israelites needed the reminder of what they were called to.
