  • Whats up youtube i bought this cheap light kit on aliexpress (link below) and found out the brake lights wont work with my controller and there was no wiring diagram that came with the kit, so i figured out how to tap the brakes in without using a controller. This kit seems pretty popular due to how cheap it is and it comes up first in my google search along with similar ones with the same wiring. Hope this how to makes sense any questions hit the comments.

    *update after running the lights with 72v i noticed the blinker LED's start to smoke and burn up, but brake, running, and headlights are fine. Just to be safe id stay at 48v with this kit*

      Thanks, for the info. If the main power plug is connected to a controller for a 72v bike, would it be receiving 72v or would the controller be outputting a lesser amount of voltage?

    • @EmxBrandon
      @EmxBrandon  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@maaz322 hey no prob so the main power is technically comming from the battery i just have it screwed into where the battery screws into the controller instead of splicing it into the battery wires if that makes sense. But yes its getting the full 72v i double checked the voltages to all the LEDs. I have some blinker lighta coming that supposedly run off 48-72v so ill update then. But the light kit is still running strong i just dont run the blinkers for more than a couple seconds

    Great video, cheers for the help! To make it simple for anyone watching and still confused, all you need to do to make the brake lights work is swap the red and black wires on the female JST connector for the brakes on the harness which plugs into your e-bike controller (you could alternatively swap the red and black wires on the male JST connector coming out of the e-bike controller, but it’s the same difference). Do this for both connectors (left and right brake), hook it all up and it should work. These cheap Chinese kits often get the ground and power wiring mixed up/plain wrong which is why this problem arises.

    So basically if you want a plug and play systems dont buy this. Youve plugged it straight into the battery but as the battery is plugged into the controller, how do you do this?

    • @EmxBrandon
      @EmxBrandon  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Depends on the controller, I just used ring terminals and attached them along side my battery terminals bolted to the controller. If you ha e a generic controller you can install the main plug for the light kit on the indicator plug.

    Is there a way to splice the wires from the headlight to wires on the controller so when you turn on the bike the headlights automatically comes on? I mean just bypass the switch cause my headlights is not working with the switch it came with and I don't want to use a switch..

    • @EmxBrandon

      For my controller since its not wired for a head light i would just have to splice the headlight power into the main on off switch and then when you turn on the bike the headlight will get power aswell. Splice the head light power into your bikes onoff switches ground and that should do it just keep an eye on it make sure the light doesnt pull to many amps through the switch and melt it

    • @EmxBrandon
      @EmxBrandon  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The black is positive yes the red is a signal if you have a controller to plug it into but i did not so basically black just needs to find ground. so i wired the brake plug inbetween that and grounded it back into the harness. If your doing it like me completely forget about the red if you notice later on i cut out the reds all together and only use the 2 blacks for front and back and wired it to one side of the brake plug and then wired the other side of the plug into the harness ground. Making a closed loop when i press the brakes and turning on the brake light.
