If this bill is passed it will be funded by the NHS. Palliative care is mainly funded by charities. This will be a 2-tier system - quick and painless on the NHS or long-drawn-out and painful by hospice. What sort of choice is that.
Many, many thanks Kim Leadbetter... I just wish it would become law more quickly, I''ve only got about 3 months left till I die of my cancer, I would have chosen this option were it available when things get really sticky nearer the end...
I am reminded of the old saying " The road to Hell is paved with good intentions" and never has there been a good intention that will lead to the law of unintended consequences being invoked than this one. A 'right to die' implies a 'right to life' and we already know where THAT argument will lead in certain quarter. And any "Right" carries with it accountability, transparency and responsibility, WHO is, and WHAT is going to be doing all three in the excersize of this particular "right" when it becomes law?
Congratulations, Kim Leadbeater. For all my reservations, this feels like progressive legislation that will alleviate horrible suffering for countless people, for years to come.
How can somebody be nearly in 'floods' of tears....Idiot....We are to put our trust in the Judiciary and NHS running this with their track record are we?
It's worrying. It sends an awkward message to people who often think about ending it. If it's acceptable in the law and in the culture. What is that person meant to think, is their a point of going to seek serious help? It only taked one person to do what we are talking about here one and any thoughts that physically hurt people's mind and body.
@Paws4Thought669 it's good that their is preventions yet i heavily believe it sends an awkward message to people who have them thoughts very much. I'm Not from the UK though A word that was used in favour was "choice" but like. 😢😅 This is how people veiw it who deal with massive mental health issues... Its a catch 22 for me
Too young to put foreard such a bill. She wants to learn from the Mother of The House, some of her wisdom in this serious issue. By thevtime thesevyoung MP,s are old, it's possible Britain will be like Canada, where coercion seems rife
6 months is still too short to apply imo, maybe a year. no longer, or the fight will fade, and it is sometimes longer than expected . Easy for me to say i guess :(
Well fortunately the UK is not a Christian theocracy! It's a fully secular country and there are far more non-Christians / non-affiliated than practicing Christians. Your religious beliefs have no bearing on the broader population.

Those that created the problem, now have the "solution"? Convenient.

Too many questions, many will think it a duty to ask for it now.

No doubt native Brits will have priority!

Well, this is one way to get the waiting lists down and reduce health expenses.

Nah, it has to be within 6 months of dying. People still can carry their fight in earlier stages and not give up. That in itself can prolong life

Proud of legalising murder. What an appalling woman.
Sounds like an invitation for in debt 50 year olds to 'assist' their parents in dying to sell their 4 bed villa
It's madness
This is an abomination to God. Sorry Britain.

Well done Kim Leadbetter Justice for those dyeing in pain which gives them choice.

What a ghoul.
I think this is a good thing.Opinions are very divided on this though
She is definitely the Lucy Letby type of person.
Great news - treat people like adults and they act like adults. This is the right thing to do
So many absolute morons who think they will now be forced to die 😬
I know :) It's heavily regulated and i think even the 6 month term/ notice is short of expectation of death . It's a step forward imo
I do not see an issue with this, one of the few things they have got right
So many absolute morons who forget the mass murdering GOVERNMENTS of the 20th century and now want to entrust them with EUTHANASIA...
It's not that. It's that it takes one person to do what we are talking about
Some people constantly need things to be mad about
Sad day for a christian country , i weep .
just wait for those sectarian, blasphemy laws to kick in, then it will be reminiscent of the anti catholic laws of the 17th century

Science allows for the unknown, religion does not. This is all about science and pain avoided. It's a good thing imo

Well said.

About time. What a lot of ponderous nonsense. Sky News made it sound like a Royal funeral. We all have to die just get on with it.
I remember a 7 year old girl in the uk did it because she was depressed.
What does this message send to people who feel pain like that?
