Giveh, Traditional Persian Shoes

  • It is one thing to get familiar with the historical places of a country, but quite another to know about its handicrafts and their history. One of these crafts is a type of hand-woven footwear called Giveh. These espadrille-like shoes consist of two parts: sole and upper. The upper part is made of cotton, wool or silk threads, and the sole is usually rubber or leather. The soles of these shoes are made by men but the upper parts which are more delicate and need more attention are mostly woven by women.
