    I think of George Michael as simply having the best singing voice a man has ever had. He was simply the best.

    George was absolutely right when he said that youth culture would never produce another act like him and other acts of the 1980s again. He was so ahead of his time. He reminds me of Elvis Presley in many ways. George's life came at a great time in music history: Elvis Presley, The Beatles, Bee Gees, Andy Gibb, David Bowie, Freddie Mercury, etc. What a total legend GM was. He had one of the greatest male soul voices of all time, much like Robin Gibb. RIP, George Michael, Elvis Presley, Maurice, Robin and Andy Gibb, Whitney Houston, Prince, Karen Carpenter, Janis Joplin, Kirsty MacColl, Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, Freddie Mercury and many other legends who passed on before their times.

      Yeap he was so right,todays demographic-the teens-tend to like something that in my opinion its just a bunch of disposable music...NONE of todays recordings will be memorable...Todays artists are just a bunch of mediocre spectacle for the masses but without a soul...…..It gives you an idea if todays kids love and think that Nicky Minaj is a "Queen" or the mumbling recordings by those idiotic rappers are good..H A ,H A, H A...pathetic really.

    • @alexcarratu5554
      @alexcarratu5554 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@RIOBALDO1A perfectly said. Much of today's music is nowhere near as good as the old music. Will people be playing 1D in 30 years from now? Nope. Will people be playing The Bee Gees in 30 years from now? Absolutely yes. George was one of the last of the greats in music. RIP, George, Robin, Maurice and Andy Gibb, Elvis, Whitney Houston, Amy Winehouse, Aretha Franklin and many others who left us

      I carefully read your post paying attention to the artists you named and I've got to agree with you 100% that this world will not repeat all of these great singers we had enjoyed since, I'd say the 1960s throughout several decades. I wouldn't include groups like that of "boys to men" or the like because I feel they didn't have the magic of singers like George Michaels, the BeeGees, Beatles, Rod Stewart and the many others who gave us such great music. A band is completely different than a group and bands like that of Aerosmith, Pink Floyd, the Eagles and others have what I can only term is magic, something so special that keeps a band with their music still relevant in the public eye. To me those boy groups from the 1990s and up have broken up, what could possibly keep them relevant? Maybe I can't explain myself too well but I do know what great music is compared to the groups silly versions of what they think is music. A man like George Michaels comes just once and I believe that we've been so lucky to have enjoyed him and his phenomenal voice and outstanding songs that will always stand the test of time. One hundred years from now people will have wished they lived in George Michaels time. He's a legend, a masterful singer and human being who is greatly missed but will always be appreciated. RIP GEORGE MICHAELS AND OTHERS.

    • @alexcarratu5554
      @alexcarratu5554 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Alisa Fehr, I'd say we won't see any great stars of the 1950s onwards ever again. Elvis Presley was the start of it all really. Before Elvis, there was no-one who'd achieved his level of fame. Yeah you had like Frank Sinatra in the 1940s, but he was nowhere near big as Elvis, despite having a career that was almost three times as long as Elvis'. Some say Elvis was the first global superstar and I'd agree with that. You only have to look at the history of music until Elvis burst upon the scene to see that. George too was an Elvis Presley fan. I agree with you regarding groups and bands; two different entities entirely. Legends like George Michael, Wham!, the Bee Gees, Elvis Presley, etc won't ever be seen again sadly and we will forever cherish their legacy and future generations will wish they were around those legends' time. I've often been told I was born in the wrong era as I adore music from the 50s onwards. Not much of the new stuff, but Elvis starts it off for me. Acts like those legends only come once in a lifetime and George's life came at a great time when many of the others I mentioned were around. George and Elvis are very similar in many ways; both were music geniuses and sensitive souls and both sang with genuine emotion which reached millions of hearts. The ones who sing from their heart, the ones with soul, those are the ones who will go down in history and will always be appreciated. RIP, George, Elvis, three of the four Gibb Brothers, Karen Carpenter and many others who passed on before their times. Your music will always be with us.

    He definitely one the greatest singers/songwriters of his era or of all times, he was right these type of songwriters are becoming obsolete more and more nowadays. Just done make natural and authentic singers/songwriters like George, Prince or Michale. They have written some of the most beautiful songs. and were real/natural singers.
    Christ Martin covered and sung this song so beautifully and like how blended in George’s amazing voice. One of greatest songs George ever written. RIP George, you are missed dearly. ❤️🙏🏼

    I saved the documentary about George Michael: freedom on my DVR for several years now. I watch it every time I stop in my busy life to think about him and his impact he had on this world. He is timeless, his voice being so beautiful in all his music is worth keeping forever. I like to believe that he's singing with Gods choir along with people like Elvis Presley, Whitney Houston and many others. Michael Jackson is the choreographer of course! So if that's part of what its like in heaven then I can't wait to go! Oh, how sweet it is (as Jackie Gleeson always said)!

    I remember being a teenager when this song came out. Back then, as a bloke, it was kinda gay to like George Michael.
    For some reason this song has followed me in my life. Right now, it can move me to tears and bring me back to times when life was simple and without worries. It makes me think about fragility and the fact that nothing stays the same.
    So yes, I admit...I am a fan of George Michael and I’m not ashamed of it.

  • @sallyhu5028
    @sallyhu5028 6 ปีที่แล้ว +21

    GM was that rarest of talent whose studio voice was gorgeously beautiful, and whose voice live mesmerized and took your breath away. And has there ever been a more beautiful, soothing speaking voice. Great effort by Chris but his voice could not carry this song live and needed studio work to improve. This version is cleaned up and much better than the live version. And when GM's voice started, it was so divine and effortless, he showed he was and ever will be, the master. When the piano started at the end of the documentary, I totally lost it. Broke my heart. Will always love and miss this beautiful artist. Thank you for sharing. The orchestra accompaniment is just beautiful. I wish I can have an instrumental version of this performance.

      Couldn't agree more. George Michael was exactly who he said he was...one of the last, and is there anyone on his level in pop music right now? Sorry, but nope. If you think you are, go listen to Listen Without Prejudice, and see if you think there's still an argument to be made when you're done listening. Iconic.

    He's so right. It's too fragmented now,,I just said that to a friend. So many venues for artistry and there are fewer shared experiences at a social level. Especially like the mid to late 60s with the folk and rock musicians singing about the times they were living. A collective vibe. Not viral, a different type of shared collective experience. Hell, only the 80's could have birthed Live Aid and a sense of solidarity. I don't envy today's youth.

    LYRICS:
    I'd say love was a magical thing
    I'd say love would keep us from pain
    Had I been there?
    Had I been there?
    I would promise you all of my life
    But to lose you would cut like a knife
    So I don't dare
    No, I don't dare
    'Cause I've never come close
    In all of these years
    You are the only one to stop my tears
    And I'm so scared
    I'm so scared
    Take me back in time
    Maybe I can forget
    Turn a different corner
    And we never would have met
    Would you care?
    I don't understand it
    For you it's a breeze
    Little by little
    You've brought me to my knees
    Don't you care?
    No, I've never come close
    In all of these years
    You are the only one to stop my tears
    I'm so scared of this love
    And if all that there is
    Is this fear of being used
    I should go back to being lonely and confused
    If I could I would. I swear
    Whoa, I swear
