Cory Hardrict did a good job....But Tyler shouldve done a flashback scene with Dallas as a young boy watching his mom get abused by his abusive.father & showing how Dallas's mom forced him to kill his father...that would've gave the viewers a better insight on Dallas's trauma & anger

I actually liked the movie. I honestly think people look for things to criticize when it comes to Tyler Perry. I’ve seen movies a lot worse get a lot less criticism.
I would’ve liked for them too give a little more detail or flashbacks in regards to Dallas killing his father. That’s really the only thing I missed.🤷🏾♀️

You did a really good job explaining the movie. A lot of people were going in just hating the movie just because it was a TP movie. If people don’t like his movies just simply stop watching them. I actually enjoyed this movie better than Mea Culpa.

No, that casket scene was one of the most ridiculous things I've ever seen. I got so much secondhand embarrassment I turned it off. I'm happy to see black people get a check, but I'd be even happier if Tyler spent some of his on a writing team.

I’m in full support of black actors getting work, but I really would love to see Tyler Perry step it up in the quality department. You have access to some of the best talent in Hollywood yet he insists on putting out Tubi channel type movies. I’m not saying that he has to make Oscar worthy films, but he could definitely benefit from better writers!
The title of the movie still don't even make sense to me. Just because she says the line in the movie, it felt forced to try to tie it together. I just want TP to do better with the amazing actors he had access to.

I hate when Tyler says he writes for "his audience. It seems to imply that his audience doesn't require much and he doesn't give much or maybe that's all he knows how to give. It's very disrespectful. I deserve more. It seems that he's implying their very low brow and all they require is chitin circuit quality and that's what he gives.
I agree! Well, apparently, some people like the movie so there is a market for it, but it is so cringe to hear him say that when majority of his fanbase is Black people. I’d rather him say that he makes movies for a very niche market of people.
I liked it, but put some respect on THEE Richard Lawson's name. he ain't known for just being Beyonce's step paw, that man been in the game since BEFORE she was even a thought.
I know exactly who Richard Lawson is. My sense of humor was calling him Beyonce Ole Step Daddy because that was just a joke. As I said in my review, he's a great actor however, my review was a comedic review of the movie.

Tyler Perry’s (TP) style is serious yet quirky. Yes, Jay Lee TP has plenty of critics but he also has an equal amount of fans and supporters.
I am sure TP is grinning all the way to the bank. He supports acting for our people mostly and that alone makes me so proud. Thank you for you honest review Jay Lee.
Divorce in the black was good and the performance was on point.
Great review Ms. Jaylee! Just a few observations about TP:
1. The movie was pretty good, however, it could have been great with writers. Let's be honest, the professional actors saved a mediocre script.
2. Throughout the movie, I clocked every talking point made by (AA) women on social media for the past year or so (DV, mother-daughter issues/fatherless homes/ protect black women/Marrying down- where the woman SHOULD leave instead of staying, etc).
3. I think Mr. Perry feels that following social media trends is 'the best' replacement for writers that allows him to still control every aspect of the writing process. Hence, he doesn't need other writers.
4. I was shocked at how good (in comparison to other plays/movies) the hair looked in this movie. Other than Angie in WDIGM, this is the BEST I've ever seen.
5. Mr. Perry is capable of listening to critics and making changes. He just refuses to acknowledge that he does listen/ make changes and ignores constructive criticism (unless it's from Oprah or Ava). Acknowledging criticism = he failed in some capacity in creating the 'perfect' movie.
ETA6. One thing that is ALWAYS consistent: He pays his people their worth. If I appreciate nothing else from Mr. Perry, it's this!

Listening to the replay Corey did an amazing job…the movie just was messing some of the back story.
The movie had potential but lacked story telling. The actors did great given the story.

Jaylee! Thank you for conveying the obvious about TP! Those who expect Francis Ford Coppola, Steven Spielberg, Spike Lee, or Antoine Fuqua out of TP, are looking to be intentionally critical and obviously upset on purpose because he is who he is! We can be critical of the movies and have input, but to act so overtly surprised and hurt that his movies are not Oscar worthy performances, are being hyperobtuse on purpose to say negative opinions on purpose. Acrimony shot in 8 days, Confessions of a Marriage Counselor, and his other works, are what they are! Watch his stuff knowing full well its going to be holes, outrageous lapses in storylines timeframes, and obvious gaps in development. I give TP props for making African American actors, showrunners, and others in the industry visible and making money. He didnt become a billionaire being stupid and we give grace to less talented Hollyweird figures who give the bare minimum.

I did just want to say that people don’t dislike Tyler Perry movies for no reason. There’s a lot of issues with continuity, writing, and things just not making sense. What’s frustrating is that he has access to some of the best talent in Hollywood yet he chooses to make very low brow, Tubi type films.

Your review of Tyler's new movie gives me pause. I have liked some of his movies but have skipped a few. I did hear more criticism than praise but I think your point that he writes to his style makes sense.

I watch the movie, i couldn't really get into it cuz I had to rewind the movie 4 or 5 times.
I really didn't feel like I was watching a movie cuz it was kind of like boring.
It is clear that those who like these films missed the writing section of English class. The basics in writing is the intro, body, and closing. The intro gives us the introduction to the story and characters (the players). The body is where we get the details of the story and connect the context clues about the relationships between the characters. The closing…well that’s self explanatory. It’s how the story ends. What’s missing in TP’s writing is the arc. An arc is the progression of the plot from exposition (introduction) to rising action, a climax, falling action, and a resolution. The reason there’s so much backlash is because our standards are being raised. Especially for someone who has the resources and means to do better. The audience wants better or at bare minimum, a balance.

I watched the movie twice.
In my opinion Tyler Perry movies are bad because he had access and the resources to do so much more. But he wants to do the minimum and take all the credit at the expense of terrible story telling and acting like the audience that is trying to support him and these actors don't deserve better. He has gotten feedback after feedback regarding his movies and shows and we are hoping that the next one is better and he keeps playing in our face. It's as if he thinks his audience is not intelligent enough to follow a complex, detailed story.

The movie was far from terrible. Black folks can't ever support black-owned.
The movie could have been good under other circumstances. Tyler just needs to invest in some help with his writing. And Megan looks white washed. She has that bleached skin look that people get when they bleach and it’s not attractive. It gives a Michael Jackson type of look.
