No. Y’all don’t give her her due lol R&B heads don’t care about musicianship. I’ve routinely seen a pianist do something amazing underneath a singer and r&b heads would instead talk about the millionth run the mf did. So unserious
Patrice is rockin' it! Her facial expressions are priceless, especially when her grooves become more intense, with those gigantic chords. She is truly a jazz powerhouse with enormous talent, just as cute and brilliant!!!
This just blew my head off. I remember Patrice Rushen as a disco diva from my youth. Forget Me Nots is still one of my favourite songs of all times. How dare one person be so phenomenally talented?
Hard to believe she was already jamming hard Fusion 15 years BEFORE this, and she was only in her late teens when Prelusion and Before The Dawn were released Please stop with the comparisons to Alicia or Beyonce or whatever. It's like comparing an interstellar spacecraft to a tricycle. She's a highly trained, musician of the highest caliber. Absolute world class! Listen to this Rhodes solo!! At 19!!! th-cam.com/video/jL8aT-4M7bw/w-d-xo.html
She amazes me, as back in the 80's she had hits as a soul singer. And yet here she is as a jazz pianist. Totally different genre, totally different instrument!
The musicianship is off the scale!!!...............but I'd also like to take the time to give the camera crew some credit. This was as fun to watch as it was to hear.
She won a national piano jazz competition with Marion McPartland as a teenage - from the first I ever heard her back in the day of JL Ponty Aurora, she always just had incredible natural feel. a classic!
I love the KX88 and DX7II. Fantastic keyboard instruments. Also, this video proves that you don't need gigabytes of piano samples in your keyboard instrument or computer to play expressive music. Manufacturers love to push gigabytes of memory onto us trying to convince us that we need it. We don't need more computer technology or RAM memory. All we need is classical training, then go to jazz, then to pop. Not the other way around, or you're likely to end up pushing the rope at some point. I am not sure why hardly anyone realizes that. Anyway, just my opinion. Nothing to be serious about, I guess.
I didn't know she could get down like that. I played with a lot of different people I never heard a woman play like that before. I love her r&b songs but I forgot about her roots.
Know way cold or luke warm this hot ! This is jazz baby ! Thanks for all the memories. Patrice hope all is well in your life. Thanks for posting this track !
I always knew she was something special I played from 0.20mins to 3.30 mins like twenty times.. I can't get enough... just awesome, incredible musicianship by Patrice... love the way the drummer, bassplayer and percussionist stya with her and let her play it her way.........simply outstanding
nooooooo!! no puedo creer lo q econtre un flor de tema de weather report con el solo hecho por patrice!nooooo q demencia q felicidad q idolos. amo shorter amo rushen
I wish I'd been there. Absolutely blinding talent. I think I saw Dizzy Gillespie's United Nations all stars around this time. A real concert to remember.
+ALEX GREEN I heard Diz at Blues Alley D.C. Georgetown in the winter of 1986 & shook his hand: No greater honor to me & told him he was my favorite trumpeter of all time. Patrice, is still a full turn on to this white English, Irish, Scotch, Dutch, also Cherokee, and also African Descent(I'm a mutt). Thanks for your post Alex.
wow amazing what monstrosity none of these so called greats of the day I alicia keys, norah jones etc) can match this level of musicianship, not only that she's beautiful as well que linda god bless her
She just took over. I love her voice I love her r&b but at this concert I was overwhelmed. She sound like a female Herbie Hancock. Or even better. That look like Wayne shorter or the saxophone.
..which demonstrates how infinitely little you know about jazz piano. Research Art Tatum and Oscar Peterson to hear the zenith of jazz piano virtuosity..
Another reason people make the comparison to alicia keys and beyonce's is quite frankly because many dont know any other popular black female pianists (not organists) besides alicia keys, beyonce and alice Coltrane. Alice Coltrane is well respected. They are just surprised they haven't heard of Patrice rushen before perhaps this video
When did Beyoncé start playing the piano? Alicia Keys can play, just NOT on this level! Now, if you would have said Twinkie Clark, that would have been a different story. Roberta Flack- different story.
You can definitely hear Herbie Hancock's influence in her playing. It would be interesting to hear them play a duet. It would be hard to tell them apart stylistically.
Ita painfully obvious people are comparing Patrice rushen to alicia keys because alicia keys is known for being a competent female pianist, until you hear Patrice rushen and understand that she isnt the only one. Patrice rushen plays jazz. Funk and Created RnB hits. Alicia keys just created rnb hits. I can understand why it wouldnt be fair to compare them due to all the difference between them in age, era, genre focus and their own personal goals. But if you are going to prevent comparisons of musicians then you should never compare musicians accorss any parameters since they are all different in race, creed, ethnicity, style, genre, technique, goals, feel, development, era, age, instrument, abilities and so forth... People compare thelonious monk's technique to classical pianists all the time and I never see anyone say "those are two separate genres"
Patrice is at her best playing jazz ❤
I am blown away...Patrice is a genius of jazz who has not been given her due.
No. Y’all don’t give her her due lol R&B heads don’t care about musicianship. I’ve routinely seen a pianist do something amazing underneath a singer and r&b heads would instead talk about the millionth run the mf did. So unserious

Patrice Rushen is a beast. Before the Dawn is still one of my favorite jazz tunes.
I love You Patrice ❤
She murdered those keys!!! A phenomenal musician and I agree, she needs more accolades.
This just blew my head off. I remember Patrice Rushen as a disco diva from my youth. Forget Me Nots is still one of my favourite songs of all times. How dare one person be so phenomenally talented?
I didn't even know patricia rushen was this great on the keys. amazing. She's a legend!
Just discovered "Forget Me Nots" and I'm blown away the singer of that is also this chick here. What a talent.
She is a remarkable talent! If you like this "sample", watch the entire concert from Netflix. It will blow you away!
Just WOW!!!!!!! I am a big Patrice fan ever since her awesome album Shout It Out in the seventies, but this is from another planet!!
Hard to believe she was already jamming hard Fusion 15 years BEFORE this, and she was only in her late teens when Prelusion and Before The Dawn were released

Just saw Patrice perform at Koko in Camden last night. Absolutely amazing musician.

Her solo on "Renaissance" off the album Aurora is incredible.
She won a national piano jazz competition with Marion McPartland as a teenage - from the first I ever heard her back in the day of JL Ponty Aurora, she always just had incredible natural feel. a classic!

She's just HOT to me.
Hey... I love Alicia - But Patrice! sorry Alicia.....Patrice gets it done......
Alicia has nothing to do with this conversation.
@@skineyemin4276 Exactly. The only similarity is that they both happen to play piano.
How about they both are Shining Stars ( Shineses)😁✌🏿🧔🏾
@@frederickhoward5598 Well, everybody has gotten and are still getting their chances to shine. I don't understand your comment, I mean, I do, but....
