John, here's a caveat about frozen coconut water. In your video you said that freezing might compromise the nutrition but studies have shown otherwise. Fresh isn't always best due to deterioration that happens in long term storage between harvest & the plate. Frozen fruits & veggies have been found to have more nutrients since they're flash frozen soon after picking. It also allows plant enzymes (proteins that break down fats, carbs & fiber) to remain active since they're protected from oxygen.
#1- Copra raw coconut water (very sweet, most either love or hate. Complex flavor, wonderful aroma, very energizing. It is not heat treated, so it's perishable, and will be refrigerated. Biggest downside is the plastic bottles, but because of shorter shelf life, it won't be in the plastic very long :-) #2- Real coconut water (comes in cans as well as glass bottles. Pretty sweet, good flavor) #3- O.N.E. coconut water (not extremely sweet, but good flavor. Comes in tetra packaging) ( as of Dec. 2014) p.s.- read the labels! Many are from concentrate or have added "flavors" of course, my opinion. But I've spent years trying those available on the market. Hope this helps!
+therealreal1 I like Real better than O.N.E. too. Have not seen Copra. Tried the imported frozen package from Asian market once, extremely disappointed. They added sugar into it. I came to learn buying the white shells and open them at home. But the shipping (carrying them) and disposing the shells afterwards are really discouraging. It is not like I can buy up dozens and drink several like I can with canned soft drinks... not that I enjoy soft drinks (I buy less than 5 bottles a year, usually because I was extremely thirsty when I'm out), but I do realize there is a different processing difficulties there.
Hi if youre reading this. Please remember That YOU have what it takes, whatever it takes, to do great things today . You will rise and shine exactly the way the sun does . Wishing you an amazing DAY
I don't know, everytime I buy the brown coconuts (which is my only option for the most part) they go bad within like four days unless I don't refrigerate it :/ I usually buy Foco Coconutwater, not too sweet tasting, which I like :)
+Frivolous Girl - the brown or the green ones u need to refrigerate them, else they start losing the water from inside and go bad, the brown ones are thick in white meat less in water and most of the brown will taste sweeter, green ones are more in water but might not taste so sweet, but they are good.
I agree with you, rossthebern. The BEST coconut water are the ones from Thailand. You can't lose by drinking the coconut waters from Thailand - Taste Nirvana, Amy & Brian, C20, Chaokoh, Nature Factor, Foco. Those are the Thai coconut waters to be looking out for and drinking, especially Taste Nirvana and Amy & Brian. Many people don't know what they're missing when they're not grabbing the coconut waters that are made from Thai-grown coconuts. Zico, Naked, O.N.E., Vita Coco, etc. are not Thai!
I am so glad I stumbled on your video. I learned so much. I recently became completely addicted to zico coconut water, and I am dying to try alternatives due too cost. I went through 24 zico packs in 4 days.
It's best to make coconut kefir with packaged coconut water. If in the UK find kefir grains starter by searching for Organic-Kephir UK. It's quite hard to find fresh coconuts in Europe.
COol, pretty informative. I do think eating raw is better for you, but it seems like the amount of water you would get from purchasing a whole coconut at whole foods would be less than that from a tetra pac case. Also i wonder if buying raw from whole foods is really "greener" than buying the water canned, because there is more energy used to ship large coconuts versus smaller more compact packaging.
Thank you very, very much!! Coconuts are Greek to me basically and this helps quite a bit! I live 40 miles from the nearest large city (mine is population 1800), so I'll be making phone calls in hopes to find an Asian market before going to Whole Foods!
Thanks, I just brought home a brown coconut and one of the eyes leaked water in the bag. I came here to find out if the water will still be good to drink. It'd be nice to know what the water should taste like. I assume it should be sweet and coconutty but I've only drank what was in the cans bought at the store. I love the canned variety in my smoothies so I hope that I like the real thing too.
can anyone help me , i wanna know tender cocount will help to flush off kidney stones and i wanna know more bout its benefits of coconut water and wats it good for ? ty
Ted Carr, a fruitarian, made a video about those young coconuts that you see packaged nicely and cut like that, and he said they heat them anyway to pasteurize them before putting solutions/paint on them; So young coconuts, unless organic or fresh or who knows what, may still be pasteurized actually, making little difference between them and the bottled variety; That doesn't mean they are bad, they are still a great drink and if you enjoy them you should, if there is no other better option like getting them extremely fresh. Apparently you can tell if they've been pasteurized or not especially by the rubbery meat, that's a clear sign; Now I don't know if all that is true, but I feel it may be and it makes sense to me. Still, enjoy your coconuts folks, they're still a healthy choice even when heated a little bit; Great electrolyte drink
Best bottled coconut water I've tasted is a brand called Cocojal which, sadly, is only produced in India and even there its hard to find. Its the freshest and truest tasting bottled coconut water I've had... and I've had a lot of fresh, straight out of the coconut itself, water to compare it to.
Thank You for sharing good info., My Q's to you - How long box of coconuts stay fresh?, Is there any time limits to finish?, & where to buy box of coconuts & what's price for box?, Pls. let me know.
Hawaii instead of importing to the USA does make a lot of sense if after transport is competitively priced. Miami sells 'em $2 fresh a block from the beach.
In their natural habitat, the brown coconuts do not really "go bad." My mother says that in the islands, a brown coconut filled with water was always good. But by the time it travels to North America, some have been around so long that they are spoiling. Even brown coconuts filled with water here are often bad.
The 99cent store and Grocery Outlet have canned, tetra pac, and glass coconut water, including the Glass one shown in this video for 99cents. I buy 10 a week since the price is so great. 100% Thai coconut water 16+ ounces.
"Probably better than raw kombucha." Why are you comparing the two, they are completely different drinks. Coconut water = natural sports drink / electrolyte high drink. Kombucha = probiotic drink. Nonsense to compare the two, they have very different purposes.
Thai coconut water is the best, I disagree with what he says about them being too sweet. Not only are the Thai coconuts slightly sweeter (not too sweet) but they also have a milder, more refreshing flavor whereas other types have a strange sour flavor that puts most ppl off of coconut water for good after one sip. The best brands are Taste Nirvana and Amy & Brian. The rest, especially the popular brands (Zico, VitaCoco, Naked, etc) don't even come close and have that weird sour taste.
One thing I don't like about the tetrapaks are the plastic cap necks! The separate too easily from the container leaving you with a nice spill when you pour yourself a glass.
I recently bought some zico from a different store than Costco and they were all sour. The expiration dates were okay but the water was tangy/ sour, I had to return it.
*What about Brown coconuts..🤔 C20 Pure Coconut water is good its 100% pure, NUETRAL PH & non GMO. Only downside a can costs over $2 Id love to be able To buy Cocowater by the GALLON!!*
Thanks for the info! I've been getting into coconut water, and just tried the Naked one. Not really a fan, but it's good chilled. Hopefully I can find some Thai coconuts, so far I've only seen the brown ones. Might be a bit challenging being that i'm in Alaska. :(
Well it's reassuring they managed to get the word "harmless" in there. I won't make the mistake of buying that pesky "harmful coconut water", that stuff is the pits!
thank you for sharing this with me, i had no idea! but still they lied about the product being organic by u.s standards, its still the only brand im aware of that hasnt been heat treated in some form. preserving the most nutrients and the most benefits aside from cracking a green coconut on your own. still the best tasting too imo.
Okay - Coconut jelly, not meat. Also, Zico is the only coconut water in a cartoon I know of that is not from concentrate and 100% coconut water (no additive). As someone who grew up with coconut trees in my back yard, I don't understand the concept of a bad coconut. When a coconut decays, it will go through different stages, to the point where consumption is not recommended but there are always uses for each stage of a coconut's decay. So, yes if the coconut jelly starts to change colour (like green or tanish) don't consume. But you may be able to get coconut oil from that decaying jelly. Now you know.
Okay, so I drank coconut water before and it made me sick. This was bottled; would actual coconut water be better from the coconut water? My Jiujitsu coach told me that raw coconut water is better than bottled in that sense.
My son's oncologist recommended coconut water to help replenish electrolytes. He suggested Harmless Harvest that you can only get at Whole Foods. It is untreated and unpasteurized. Does this mean it may have bacteria that could potentially infect an immunocompromised person or will it help build up his immune system?
Nothing is perfect when packaged. I love and only drink C 2 0. It is 100% juice, only 50 calories per 8 oz serving, no added sugar. It is from Thailand and in a BPA free can. Because it is 100% juice and in a BPA can I find C 2 0 to be the best for on the go and easy access to a healthy beverage. I always purchase from whole foods when on sale 3 for $5. Only 1.66 per 16oz can. I purchase 4 cases every time receiving an additional 10% off for each case. Now 1.50 per can. Many spend easily 2.79 daily for 300 + calories 16 9z sugary soda. Win win for health and cost
I know that young coconuts which are green ave more water content. The Thai coconut is too sweet. I tried two brand names, Goya and Vita Coco coconut water. Vita Coco tastes better. It is expensive, Try to purchase it when it is on sale.
Is there a reason why no one is using Philippines coconuts? After trying coconuts from different places, I find that Philippines coconuts are the best tasting yet no one seem to be bottling them here in North America.
I love O.N.E. and VitaCoCo. ZICO tastes terrible to me. I'd love to try fresh coconut water some time, but some how, I doubt the D.O.T. would believe that a machete on my truck is for opening coconuts.
Video title is misleading...host seems more interested in promoting drinking coconut water straight from coconut than actually giving us best bottled/canned coconut water to drink...I have no interest in harvesting actual coconuts just to get single glass of coconut water...currently to me goya coconut water with pulp is best tasting but it does have alot of sugar for sweet taste...I'm actually looking for alternate brands of coconut water that taste really good but don't have alot of sugar, etc.
the best packaged coconut water is the one packaged in tha shell
Let me also say that I appreciate these videos, John. Sharing your knowledge is good of you!
John, here's a caveat about frozen coconut water. In your video you said that freezing might compromise the nutrition but studies have shown otherwise. This was very informative, professional, and informal at the same time. Thank you.
i live in hawaii i eat fresh coconuts every day

what happen to FL and CA for buying coconut from ?

11 years ago - this video is old now!
I liked this one the best - "Organic 100 percent Raw Coconut Water". Tastes almost like the fresh coconut water and it is not pasteurized.
The young sweet thai coconut water combined with a freshly squeezed lemon in the morning is better than lemonade with great health benefits.
I am so glad I stumbled on your video. I learned so much. I recently became completely addicted to zico coconut water, and I am dying to try alternatives due too cost. I went through 24 zico packs in 4 days.

@ChoskeLosMobstars c20 is the best on that I have tried, and I have tried a bunch of brands.
Thanks John.

Another very informative video! Love this guy
can anyone help me , i wanna know tender cocount will help to flush off kidney stones and i wanna know more bout its benefits of coconut water and wats it good for ? ty
The Zico coconut water that I have been buying says "not from concentrate" on the label.
Its still pasteurized and heated
Dice Flawless so it's best to get the actual coconut then? If so, how many paid in one?I need at least 24oz. Lol
Straight from a YOUNG coconut is best. Only downside is that you have to open it and have all that coconut go to waste if you dont want to eat it.
Ted Carr, a fruitarian, made a video about those young coconuts that you see packaged nicely and cut like that, and he said they heat them anyway to pasteurize them before putting solutions/paint on them; So young coconuts, unless organic or fresh or who knows what, may still be pasteurized actually, making little difference between them and the bottled variety; That doesn't mean they are bad, they are still a great drink and if you enjoy them you should, if there is no other better option like getting them extremely fresh. omg you have another channel?
Do a sfv
I used to live in the Philippines w/my grandparents, we used to get 'em from our neighbors trees. Yummmmm!
Has anyone mentioned nirvana yet? Very good brand.
Nice video, good information......
One point though a coconut has three eyes not two as stated
Jon,
How did you get 150 lbs of coconut back from HI to CA, agriculture checks?
HI John, I think you are near Sacramento? The 99 cent stores have fresh coconuts. Much cheaper than Raley's
I want a coconut water/juice that does not have a aftertaste, any suggestions?
Best bottled coconut water I've tasted is a brand called Cocojal which, sadly, is only produced in India and even there its hard to find. Its the freshest and truest tasting bottled coconut water I've had... and I've had a lot of fresh, straight out of the coconut itself, water to compare it to.
john what about the coconut water packages that are in packages but they r in fridge sections? are they also pastorized?
Thank You for sharing good info., My Q's to you - How long box of coconuts stay fresh?, Is there any time limits to finish?, & where to buy box of coconuts & what's price for box?, Pls. let me know.
O.N.E. is above and beyond and other brand I've tried so far!!!!! No comparison!
Hi John did you ever try Copra 100% Raw Coconut Water? Just was wondering so I can get your opinion?
Hawaii instead of importing to the USA does make a lot of sense if after transport is competitively priced. Miami sells 'em $2 fresh a block from the beach.
The O.N.E brand is good, tastes very clean.I also like C2O.
Thank you for this information
I drink the one brand. The best tasting one so far.
In their natural habitat, the brown coconuts do not really "go bad." My mother says that in the islands, a brown coconut filled with water was always good. But by the time it travels to North America, some have been around so long that they are spoiling. Even brown coconuts filled with water here are often bad.
No way I thought the exact same thing natures purified water. Do you think the water could be used to water plants with or to spray on cuttings.
The 99cent store and Grocery Outlet have canned, tetra pac, and glass coconut water, including the Glass one shown in this video for 99cents. I buy 10 a week since the price is so great. 100% Thai coconut water 16+ ounces.

Gabriel Nuñez-Soria why are you so butt hurt. Just stop crying about somebody sharing an opinion
lol That produce guy is like "what the fuck is this guy doing".
Good info thanks
Thai coconut water is the best, I disagree with what he says about them being too sweet. The Zico coconut water tasted nasty the last time i tried it (prob. because of the plastic bottle).
What is the best sparkling water for a type 2 diabetic individual?
One thing I don't like about the tetrapaks are the plastic cap necks! The separate too easily from the container leaving you with a nice spill when you pour yourself a glass.
Spray your produce with cider vinegar, half water, to breakdown the fungicide/benzol stuff he mentioned. Then rinse, before enjoying :)
this guy is probably on GatoradeS hit list....GREAT VIDEO!
I recently bought some zico from a different store than Costco and they were all sour. The expiration dates were okay but the water was tangy/ sour, I had to return it.
at that time they do not have harmless brand. refrigerator shelf bottled fresh coconut water is the most convenient for me
what kind of water do you drink john? do you drink RO water>???
*What about Brown coconuts..🤔 C20 Pure Coconut water is good its 100% pure, NUETRAL PH & non GMO. Only downside a can costs over $2 Id love to be able To buy Cocowater by the GALLON!!*
I'll stick with Goya and Foco.
Quick trivia: coconuts and coconut water are natural laxatives :)
Thank you.
If its pasturized isn't the only thing left sugar water?
I read the nutrition label and it says 11 g of carbohydrates per service, not perfect for my ketogenic diet
Deep coconut water is the tastiest and the best.
so c20 is good? i just order a 12 case
Should coconuts be organic or is there no need?
that was hella informative! haha thank you!
Thanks for the info! I've been getting into coconut water, and just tried the Naked one. Not really a fan, but it's good chilled. Hopefully I can find some Thai coconuts, so far I've only seen the brown ones. Might be a bit challenging being that i'm in Alaska. :(
Thank you sir.
What about Harmless Coconut Water? It's refrigerated. Have you had that one?
You should try Harmless Harvest Organic 100 Percent Raw Coconut Water from Whole Foods!
Well it's reassuring they managed to get the word "harmless" in there. I won't make the mistake of buying that pesky "harmful coconut water", that stuff is the pits!
Yeah, I like Harmless Harvest Coconut water. The taste is almost the same as when you drink it straight from the young coconut.
he completely neglected to mention this! and its the best packaged coconut water you can buy, followed by taste of nirvana which he did show.
thank you for sharing this with me, i had no idea!
but still they lied about the product being organic by u.s standards, its still the only brand im aware of that hasnt been heat treated in some form. preserving the most nutrients and the most benefits aside from cracking a green coconut on your own. still the best tasting too imo.
I like the taste, but dang is it expensive!
CHAOKOH coconut water is the best tasting product I have tried so far.
Expairi date kitni hoti jai iski
How do you make coconut water out of coconut with flake/
dam my supermarkets only have zico ....
but the asian market has lots lol

I LOVE the new C20, only 200 calories, and not too sweet. I think it tastes the most like a sweet thai coconut. But it is in a can!
1:09 No doubt, a "Ma Shitty" is the best for opening coconuts!...lol! :)
Theresa Sullivan hows it going with that?
It will help build the immune system so you good
My favorite brand is c2o coconut water !

Taste Nirvana premium coconut water from Thailand in 23'6 Fl oz glass bottles. Not from concetrate. Yes, it is sweet. $4.94 online.
I know that young coconuts which are green ave more water content. The Thai coconut is too sweet.
I tried two brand names, Goya and Vita Coco coconut water. Vita Coco tastes better. It is expensive,
Try to purchase it when it is on sale.
where do you get these brands
I was at Smith's Market, Glaziers, and Walmart.
I was lucky they were on sale or discounted
On the days I went.
OK thanks I'm going to check at whole foods and traders Joe
Better than raw Kombucha?

Thank you for a nice vid :)
Which brand isn't so sweet tasting?????
The fresh ones directly from its shell.
You like that "young meat" do you? 6:36 😂
Couldn't help myself from being silly. 😂😂😂
Game, Set, Match..."Harmless Harvest Raw Coconut Water" !!!!!
Also, where i live right now ONE coconut water is $1
I love O.N.E. and VitaCoCo. ZICO tastes terrible to me. I'd love to try fresh coconut water some time, but some how, I doubt the D.O.T. would believe that a machete on my truck is for opening coconuts.
12:33 Jelly meat it's such a treat. He made a Dr Dr. Seuss.
Nothing to beat the Sri Lankan King Coconut Water. It is naturally sweeter!!
I bought one from the market for 30 cent(10 baht) for one brown coconut...lol
Video title is misleading...host seems more interested in promoting drinking coconut water straight from coconut than actually giving us best bottled/canned coconut water to drink...I have no interest in harvesting actual coconuts just to get single glass of coconut water...currently to me goya coconut water with pulp is best tasting but it does have alot of sugar for sweet taste...I'm actually looking for alternate brands of coconut water that taste really good but don't have alot of sugar, etc.
