In this video we present to you Flutist Vid.J.B.Sruthi Sagar playing a Raga Alapana followed by a Thiruppugazh in Raga Poorvikalyani.
The Artist plays a raga Alapana in the beginning and then moves on to playing the song 'Marukkulaviya' , a thiruppugazh composed by Sri Arunagirinaadar . The song is played in Rupaka Talam (Tisra Nadai)
Poorvikalyani is a Janya Raga of the 53rd Melakarta Ragam Gamanashrama/Gamakakriya .
Thiruppugazh is a collection of Musical poems , a 15th Century anthology of Tamil Religious songs dedicated to Lord Muruga.The thiruppugazh songs are well known for their unique poetic and musical qualities with special reference to rhythmic variations.
