I just did the same now, easy peasy, and the engine is a lot more sound at least in the testing bucket. Tomorrow will test on the lake. I love to have a light engine with 5Hp. I use it in a skiff for fishing.
Other YT vids seem to indicate the upgrade solves the stock carb hesitation issue while giving negligible power increase. In theory the upgrade kit should fit on the 2.5 as well since it's the same engine as the 3.5 (physical dimensions).
Thanks for the video. I have problems with the original factory 3.5hp carburetor. It hesitates going from idle speed to main jet and sometimes shuts down on main jet as well. Could you please share link to get the 5hp carb? Did you get the original Mercury /mariner carb? thanks
Adjust the idle air screw . Run seafoam. Before storing run engine dry by shutting off fuel valve every time. Clean carb if that doesn't work. No need to buy new one.
Hey. Good video. I was wondering if the mounting face was the same size for the 4/5/6hp versions and this answers that. Had you tried the mixture screw? It's usually under an anti-tamper brass plug. I found it was screwed all the way in on one of mine that was having idling issues (from factory). The workshop manual states it should be 2.5 turns out and then fine tuned. That sorted my idle issue. How did you find the carbs performance long-term? Was it actually making any noticeable extra power? Thanks. :)
Dont't be fooled by theese adds. Complete ripp off as the 5 hp. carb is the same, no speed improvement expected. Despite the std engine often revs to the limiter (6000) so no carb would make any improvement. Aliexpress sells theese for 25 bucks but if you want real speed extensive mods needs to be done but not worth the hazzle.
@@stevemac9298it does work, but you won’t suddenly have 5hp. Bc the whole exhaust system is tuned to 3.5hp. The new carb can increase torque a bit, but won’t produce 5hp.
@@DickerMax Agreed , have a 3.5 Mercury and never had this problem of "Bogging "? between the different jets, slow and steady is the way when revving the engine, (Air mix is a consideration as well as some one pointed out) , I would also say fuel stabiliser is our friend so use it between runs. Frankly when I see some one with a workshop like this guy had, and removing a rubber hose with sharp nose pliers and ragging it around like he did I cringed. The Plastic props are crap and cavitate to easy , 4 blades and playing around with the engine position makes one hell of a difference . Just a few thoughts for any readers here.

Please can you share where you got the new carb from thanks

If the new carburetor made any difference then it must have been negligible as the guy bought a 5HP Honda outboard later.

Hi, can you please share where you got the 5hp carb from.
How was it running on the boat after?

Hello! Where did you buy this carburetor? Can you send a link?
Carb can be bough from Amazon or eBay
hey do you know if i can do this with a 2.5hp mercury?

The 5 hp carb is a scam, it is a piece of crap.
how do you know
Do the 4-5hp carb not work then?
