There's a lot of stuff I appreciate in this video: - the SICK new idea! - the movie reference cuts - the music (is it vaporwave?!) - separating and blinding the drams for us to see (also proof in case Dillon tries to deny anything) - great content as always Amazing job, thank you!
This was great. I do agree with other who have mentioned availability. Maybe availability should also be part of the conversation, like how and where it can be got.
Yes, that was awesome. I love this format, please: more. As much as I love bourbon, I love comparing blindly. However, you bring up a good point: comparing blindly certainly does disservice to subtle flavors. I've not had Statesman but love the other two. Don't have a dog in this fight for the proof, but maybe 1792 or Makers 46. With only 3 choices, they can be easy to guess. I could see the evil in Dillon's expressions.
I love this new tournament format! Also, I'm always surprised by the hate that the Statesman gets. I sometimes wonder if it being a promo for the movie has held it back. Like, if it were marketed as a normal release (like 1910, 1920, etc), it would have been better received.
@@Walking_Ears That's what I'm thinking as well. Whenever I've had this blind, or poured this for others without telling them what it was, they've always enjoyed it (and so have I over other bourbons). Not saying it's the most amazing bourbon ever, but the way I see others bash it you'd think it's bottom of the barrel.
Great idea, and also a fun idea to allow barrel picks that you wouldn't review in the ultimate spirits competition. Your tasting notes here lined up well with each other, can tell you've been getting lots of practice doing blind tastings lately. It's a good idea to do this specifically with bourbon too, like with scotch it would be harder to decide "favorites" if comparing peated vs unpeated, etc
Love the new series! I think seeing who brought the best bottle is a natural and exciting thing for whiskey friends to do. For round 2, I recommend the Bardstown Fusion Series 4 and 1792 12 year.
Great Video! Love the concept! Would Tenn Whiskey be allowed? If so Jack Daniels Single Barrel (94 proof) could be looked at. Also Woodford double Oaked (or OF 1910), 1792 small batch & makers 46 would be nice entries
How do you guys plan on integrating ryes? weller 12 yr, window jane 10 yr, lost monarch, blanton's, jack Daniel's 10 yr, bowman brothers, george remus, penelope architect, nikka coffey malt
I guessed these correct based on your blind taste results as well and I think the winning order results were aligned with my palate as well. Surprised Jules was that off on which bourbon was which. Entertaining as always. Thanks guys,
This looks like a fun series! Bottle contender suggestions - Makers 46, Bulleit 10, George Remus (maybe a pick?), Woodinville, Frey Ranch, Dickel 8yr, Jack Daniels Single Barrel
so how much does statesman cost there? we don't get alot of old forester in europe - i can only get the 86 (at 30), the 100 proof (at 60) and the statesman (at over 100) is it a 100 dollar/euro bottle or should i just keep buying other, more reasonably priced brands?
I loved this episode. It was so exciting! In Welterweight, I’d love to see Tin Cup 10 year be included. I’d love to see Calumet 16 included in Middleweight. I’m kind of a lightweight so I can’t recommend a Heavyweight, but I’m looking forward to the competition.
Makers Mark 46 and 1792 small batch were my first thoughts; but I see those have already been suggested. The unicorns under 100 proof would include some of the following: Wild Turkey Master’s Keep Lost Prophet 22yr Jefferson’s Presidential Select 17yr
A lot of folks have mentioned Woodford DO and OF 1920, but I'd also recommend Tincup 10-year. Maybe add a light heavyweight category (110-119 proof) as well because I'm not sure how many 100-proofers will compete well with the ones with proofs in the high teens.
Agreed. You could almost make 99-101 proof it's own category. that captures all of the bottled in bond, 101 whiskey, and those wild card 99 proof hitters.
How many challenge rounds will you do in each "weight class" before you determine the ultimate winner? I love tournaments. When you finish with bourbons, do the same for different styles of scotch.
Before I get to the taste test, I just wanted to say that my only issue with this first installment is that Eagle Rare is far too rare (at least it is here in the Orlando area). I've only ever seen 1 bottle in a store in my 10-ish years of exploring bourbon. That said, I don't think it stands a chance, as in my very limited 1 bottle experience with it, Eagle Rare is far too delicate to stand out in a blind taste test. I didn't even like my bottle until I was about halfway through it, when the flavors finally started to come out (no idea if it was time or air space in the bottle or both that caused it).
Just moved from Northern TN where up until recently you could find Eagle Rare at MSRP quite regularly. Now you're looking at paying around $40-$45 for a 750 and $20 for a 375. Unfortunately now that I'm in Louisville, everything here is pretty much priced at secondary. I've actually seen ER 750 at like $120 and a 375 of it priced at $80.
I feel like you could not over your own bias, if you knew what bottles you were all bringing forward. It would be a more honest battle, if (like in Vegas) you all brown bagged it, and only relieved the bottles, after the fight. Your producer would need to pour and label, but it would be an honest representation of a "blind" fight. Keep up the great content and Cheers!
Totally agree with the double blind Vegas style. And - I say NO special “one of a kind or very limited” bottles, especially ones only gotten at the distillery. When you finish the contest, I want to have a shot at buying it!!
If you blind 3 things that you have had and know before hand u will have a real hard time not being biased and knowing them. Suggestion (i know it becomes complicated)- give ur bottle to a fourth person and have them blind the 3. Reveal the 3 bottles after tasting and scoring. Then discuss. 🤷♂️

Glad to see Statesman get some love.
I really enjoyed the new format. Thanks for the fun interaction.
Curiosity Public drinking game: take a drink every time Dutch spills something, Jules curses, or Dillon mentions jam.
Stewed fruits
Love the format and the intro! I’ll pay out of pocket for a Mary Tyler Moore intro with Jules throwing his hat in the air. 😁
Love a good blind battle!
-woodFord double oaked
- 1792
Both findable and affordable
I dig this format.
Great video guys! Pretty sure it’s just you guys and us in the Whiskeytube Statesman fan club.
Thanks! Yeah - we may be all there is to the small whiskeytube Statesman fan club!
Great video! Reminds me of the old Bourbon Guild. Need to pull Woodford Reserve as the next challenger.
This was great. I do agree with other who have mentioned availability. Maybe availability should also be part of the conversation, like how and where it can be got.
Halfway through the video, thinking Dylan f'd up by not bringing 1910 over Statesman. Well done man.
Love the format! Keep it coming.
What a great concept!
I loved this!! Bardstown fusion 7
Love this format! Jack Daniels Single Barrel OR Russels 10yr

Fun new concept. Can't wait for the next video. Lot's of fun!

Yeah that's a good point. Maybe being affiliated with the movie's marketing makes it feel a bit too much like a "celebrity" release

Nice format 👍I'm curious for more 😉
And the choice from my shelf for the welterweight would be Buffalo Trace Kosher. Whether the Rye or Wheat mashbill, both kick the Statesman's ass 😉
Knob creek 9 and 1792 bottled in bond.....This is awesome guys!
I don’t think either of those would qualify as they are 100 proof. The cutoff is 99, no?
@@zerodynamic Oh yeah ok KC12?
@@royn8032 also 100 proof. Nothing in the KC line would work. You’d have to look at Basil Hayden, Old Grand Dad 86, etc.
@@zerodynamic LOL I guess I am not a welterweight
Love this idea. Can’t wait for the next episode.
Awesome new series guys!!! 🥃👍
And this could literally go on forever 😜😂

Awesome format! My two would be...Angel's Envy and Woodford Reserve Double Oaked
Love every bit of this new series!
Love the new series! I think seeing who brought the best bottle is a natural and exciting thing for whiskey friends to do. For round 2, I recommend the Bardstown Fusion Series 4 and 1792 12 year.
Love this new format. Great stuff as always

Love this new series
Next contender for the Statesman: Makers 46, Elijah Craig small batch, and Four Roses small batch
Really enjoy this tournament format !!!
Entertaining keeping it Curious👍🔥
Knockout contenders: Woodinville Port finished bourbon, Old Forester 1910, Woodford Reserve Double Oaked, Bulleit 10, Maker's 46, George Remus, Rabbit Hole Dareringer, Widow Jane 10, Russell's Reserve 10, Chattanooga Whiskey 91.
Absolutely love this new episode!! cant wait for more!
Love the idea. Should do at least four weight classes. 80-89, 90-99, and so on.
Finally 3 bourbons I can actually buy had eagle rare very nice greetings from London 🍻
Cheers!
New series caught me by surprise, but I love it. 4 Roses small batch or 1792 small batch would be good challengers
Love this format!! Keep this series going! Evan Williams 1783 and 1792 small batch.
Love this guys!
You all take much smaller sips than I do. You have a lot left in your glasses! 😆
Nice fun videos guys!! I guessed it wrong too Jules so don’t feel bad 😆
Great new format! Future contenders: RR10 and Elijah Craig

Great video CPU! Love the series. I would challenge Statesman with Russell’s Reserve 10yr, OF 1910, or Uncle Nearest 1884.
Great episode. I would challenge with Woodford double oaked
Awesome format!
Loved it guys
Shoulda started with the feather/bantom weight. 80-90
These are great shows! Wish I could join you guys in the fun.
love the new show and i knew yellow was eagle rare without a taste !!
This looks like a fun series! Bottle contender suggestions - Makers 46, Bulleit 10, George Remus (maybe a pick?), Woodinville, Frey Ranch, Dickel 8yr, Jack Daniels Single Barrel
Love it! Great format, but doesn’t the nose deserve to have a say in the winner? Ranked nose?
New contest is fun. Pretty much the same as Scotch 4 Dummies, but I like your version better. I nominate Russle’s Reserve 10.
Love the new concept. How about Frey Ranch's standard 90 proof? Or Maker's 46.
so how much does statesman cost there?
we don't get alot of old forester in europe - i can only get the 86 (at 30), the 100 proof (at 60) and the statesman (at over 100)
is it a 100 dollar/euro bottle or should i just keep buying other, more reasonably priced brands?
It is about $50-65 USD here in the States. While we do like it, I don't think any of us would buy it at $100 USD.
This was very interesting as I have tried all 3....I have to give Statesman a second try!
Jules also picked statesman as his first place too.
Makers Mark 46 and 1792 small batch were my first thoughts; but I see those have already been suggested.
The unicorns under 100 proof would include some of the following:
Wild Turkey Master’s Keep
Lost Prophet 22yr
Jefferson’s Presidential Select 17yr
Great battle! I’d recommend for the next round to include Elijah Craig Small Batch and Bowman Bros Small Batch.
Oh does dillon have his own blend he does? I want to see

Tin Cup 10 Year
Makers 46
Woodford Double Oak
Elijah Craig Toasted
Have you guys tried anything from Cleveland Underground. Curious on your thoughts / good candidate for a drink through?
Starting with a champ to root against.
How many challenge rounds will you do in each "weight class" before you determine the ultimate winner? I love tournaments. When you finish with bourbons, do the same for different styles of scotch.
We haven't set an end point for this yet. But we may.
OF1910 needs to be included it should easily win

Blantons. Include Blantons and 1792 single barrel.
1792 small batch has to make an appearance.
Blade & Bow is the Ultimate Welterweight
Russels 10, Jack single barrel
I collect Buffalo Trace, but I drink Michters.
OF1910 is another contender
I'm also a Statesman apologist
OF 1910, Michter’s 10yr😂

Statesman is by far the worst expression in Old Forrester, even worse than 86. Over Eagle Rare? Dont get it
Statesman is so underwhelming and overpriced
Should all three bring new bottles for the different proof classes. Then the 3 winners battle it out for the finale. @curiositypublic.
