    Here’s an idea for the next go-round. Instead of using wires, use metal rods (shiny ones) as much as possible. You can keep them straight, or maybe induce some beautiful curves. Either way, they will look more mechanical and watch-like-and certainly more tidy!

      R.f. semi- rigid coaxial wire would be the way to go. Shiny too!

      My first thought was a black wiring loom but shinny works too.

    Ohh the neck you made is deluxe. The wood. The finish. And of course, the frets perfectly levelled and radiused and then crown-and-polished. Your "neck-game" is strong Mr Crimson.

    Love watching your channel, and always enjoy your videos. A lot of guitar building knowledge has helped me be a better guitar tech and serviceman. Maybe start bringing out general guitar tech videos. I know in all your past videos you show your techniques etc and I have watched them all, but new players to your channel might find it hard. Anyway, love the work you do and keep on going.

    I really like this guitar. The shots through the guitar show how little it refracts, which looks very cool. The tuners being perpendicular to the neck is a really nice look, too. And that carborundum finish is as attractive as it is infuriating. Definitely, some successful experiments come together in a unique instrument. Super stuff!

    Looking really sweet now! Those bolts stopping over compression in the center of the body could do with rubber or silicon pads on the top though; over time I can see scratch patterns building up as the back impacts and rubs against them.

    You can actually polish those bevels and the insides of the pickup routes and get them dead clear. It's time consuming and requires a lot of patience though. Take a look at what some high end granite or glass guys do. I've seen them slowly creep up, and sand and polish. Was this huge bathroom job with a lot of glass. A lot of hard bevels, as well as rounding. And all those edges of the shelving created was slowly sanded and polished shiny smooth. edges of shelving. It was crazy. They also did the mirrored walls, and bevels around the edges of the faces. Lots of patience which I don't have.

    Since you like using your torch, and want clear acrylic you can flame polish the beveled edge of the acrylic with a standard propane torch head with a fine pointed flame. It takes a steady hand and the right speed to get it to melt but not bubble, but the results are imprssive.

    I think that a nice Ash surround would have looked nicer than the Fuzz! 😂
    The Wiring looks really messy, you could have used tubing to tidy it up a bit! Maybe it would be an idea to put a thin veneer inside around the controls to hide the messy stuff! Like a control plate but under the perspex if you know what I mean!

    I really like this guitar- I wasn't convinced it would resist imploding at some stage, but it's not the first time I've been wrong about one of your innovative builds! I like the look of the dust finish although it's not for everyone, but it's just a finish and can easily be changed on future guitars. I think you can call this proof of concept a resounding success.
    Did the thought of polishing the inner faces of the acrylic and then putting a single thumbprint on it to prove authenticity ever cross your mind?

  • @nocturnal101ravenous6
    @nocturnal101ravenous6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Ben, when ever we made acrylic computer systems and put them together we almost always wore a thin glove, then you don't have to deal with fingerprints as you are making it..................................just a heads up for next time.

  • @moogoomoogoo5990

    Hi ben. love the look of this guitar and it sounded really good. for the internal wiring did you ever consider doing cable lacing and creating a proper cable loom? would have looked really good and tidy with the clear body. i also assume that users will have to be careful of belt buckle scratches on the back of the body.

  • @WantedVisual
    @WantedVisual ปีที่แล้ว

    The fingerprint thing can probably be greatly reduced if you add an oleophobic coating to the plastic. There's also clear plastics which are less prone to it to begin with, but those tend to be more fragile.

  • @RocketPunkArt
    @RocketPunkArt ปีที่แล้ว

    Now that I think about it, having the pots turned 90° and basically be controlled like watch crowns could potentially work really rather well for a future build. It'd only require a recess if you're making a curvy shape like that Jazzmaster, but on an Explorer or a Firebird? That would work like a charm

    I'm sorry I don't remember if you shot any kind of sealer/ finish over the carbon dust. Seems that would help with the powdering off. Really turned out very nicely. Very good proof of concept. Sounds very much like what one would expect from the Gold Foil style pups.

    Thanks for another excellent series. The demo is an interesting one. The tone where Ben is playing is nice and seems to suit the guitar, but the distortion (?) on the second part just doesn't seem to have the 'oomph' I might expect. There's just 'something' missing? It's probably the first time where I've heard a guitar quite clearly favour a particular tone. I'm guessing the more experienced guitarists hear this kind of tone preference on a daily basis, for me it's quite clear with this one.

I was really invested in and enjoying the hand tool build but this is the 2nd time it's just stopped with no explanation. I really like the channel and the builds but I just wish Ben could finish a project before starting another. Makes it really hard for me to want to keep watching.

      He's been diagnosed with ADHD. Maybe that scatterbrain start/stop/switch is just the way his mind works most of the time. Maybe even the core of his creativity. Different people just have different work styles. What works for you can be the straightjacket that frustrates others and sucks the joy out of their work. Sometimes you just have to let them work their own preferred way, even if it seems alien to you.
      GGBO had a deadline. The Kauri build had a customer deadline (that he missed iirc). GGBO deadline needed the guitar giveaway business up and running. Spinning plates and diversions. It's inevitable the projects that don't have deadlines sometimes get deferred for the projects that do. Look for the silver lining - delayed gratification allows you to enjoy the build for longer.

    Imagine young RHCP trying to hide their nudity under such instruments 🎸

    I can't stop myself from thinking that you should probably dye the body (or what's left of it) black before applying the "finish". Any chips or dents, which will inevitably occur, will expose bare wood. Rather visible and rather ugly AF.

      I think in a previous episode he said he'd send the guitar out with a small bottle of powder for inevitable touchups.

    This is the least "Ben like" guitar, I've seen Ben build.... the last 10% always take 90% of the time.... I'd have liked to have seen some more watch inspired features past the "crystal" front and back, of an age we were all keen on perspex bodies in the 90s then after all the different colours and finally "river table" projects and lego, and coffee beans, and m&ms and bog oak... drowning in resin... bursts of all flavours whiskey barrels, metal skeletons 💀 what is new? 😵‍💫
