    I have never before heard anyone explain about the air hole, and why it is needed! Thank you so much for your excellent instruction; I always learn something new when I watch your videos. 👍😊

    The Sakura Koi waterbrush has a plug for the reservoir, so that you can carry the filled reservoir very safely when travelling (I personally find this feature quite useless, but I know some people who really appreciate it). The full size Koi also has a 9 ml capacity, while the most other Japanese waterbrushes, including the Pentel Aquash and Yasutomo Neji (the latter of which I despise) have a 7.5 ml capacity.

    The flat brush is designed to have the outer inside cover of the brush removed to make a much bigger bristle wash brush which is great. Try taking that outer plastic off the brush for washes.

    Great review, tfs. Interesting that the Niji brushes are identical to the set of 4 Kuretake/Zig waterbrushes that I have (bought in UK from Kuretake), even the colours are the same. I read somewhere that they are the same Company but forget who owns whom. They also have the pen-holder clip moulded to the cap (maybe designed to put a string through it. Who knows. The 2 same sizes of the set of 4 have the air hole too. I find that strange as to why they would put the air hole in only 2 of the 4. My flat/broad brush cap does not fall off, however.

Can you please give me some advice or idea on how one can learn to sketch (w/o enrolling in art school). Thank you so much for this review, Teoh! I recently got the Holbein brush, and the problem with it is that it releases the water continuously, and there's no stopping it. After a while, I am not able to make pigmented mixes or lay a lot of pigment on the sketch - instead, I am having puddles, backruns and washed out colors. I was wondering if you had the same experience with it? I'm not sure if I got a bad brush, or is it actually normal for all Holbein brushes.
    The brushes I owned before this one (Derwent and a flat Yasutomo) had stoppers in the barrel. To fill them with water, I had to pull out the stopper, and then put it back on before screwing the barrel to the bristle part. My Holbein, however, lacks a stopper. Does yours have a stopper on the barrel?

    • @teohyc
      @teohyc  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Holbein does not have stopper. I find it easier to use if you don't squeeze. Water will still flow, slowly.

    • @owlishart2335
      @owlishart2335 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I see. How do you avoid too much water on your sketches with this brush then?

    • @teohyc
      @teohyc  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I try not to press much first. Then I use tissue to dry off excess water.
      I don't use waterbrushes already because of this water-always-flowing problem.

    Thanks so much for your really helpful replies! Btw, would you recommend purchasing the enamel box and what paint brands do u like

    • @teohyc
      @teohyc  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      It depends on which country you're in and if the paint brands are available there. If you're buying the box set from Arters. I would recommend you get the 10-colour set under by my name "Teoh Yi Chie" - do a search on their website. Ask if you can replace the Viridian (useless) in that set to Phthalo Green (Blue Shade).
      Or you can get the 10-colour M Graham intermediate set from Amazon which cost USD $75.

    How often do you replace your water brushes? I have a pentel but not really happy with it but then I might just prefer my regular round brushes.

    • @teohyc
      @teohyc  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Maybe three months to six months depending on how often I use them. The holbein one is the least durable, or maybe because that's the one I use most often.

    Great video! I have a question: are there any problems with leaving water inside the water compartment when not using the brushes for a long time?

    • @teohyc
      @teohyc  7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      +Joe Liang It is not really a problem I suppose, unless it starts growing algae. Sometime if you have paint on the brush tip, it will diffuse back into the water compartment, making the water there dirty.

    • @teohyc

    • @MariahCovel
      @MariahCovel 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Natasha Kavanagh I own the Pentel and Sakura brushes. My Pentel brushes will drip if you squeeze the water cartridge, if you don't squeeze they won't drip. I find them harder to control the water as its more of a constant flow. I enjoy the Sakura brush more because you can squeeze those if you want more water.

    I have some pentel brushes. When I press on the compartment the water comes out of the breather holes. This is not supposed to happen right? Does anyone else have that problem? Also I‘m guessing this is not happening with any of the brushes in the video is it?

    • @teohyc
