As someone who lived in Japan for a few years, it's not that big of a difference in pronunciation and people will still know what you are talking about. Also don't go up to random people and ask them if they watch anime, that's weird.
It'd be no different than if a Japanese (or someone from literally any other country) tourist walked up to a random American and asked them if they like hamburgers. Incredibly vague, weird, and a bit racist.
If you go up to random people in Japan and start talking to them most likely they’ll just smile nod and try to ignore you or get away from you, they aren’t caring about how you pronounce anything.
Its a 50/50 chance the answer is either yes or they go on a rant telling you how its offensive and you shouldnt treat racial stereotypes like fact, even though youre just trying to get some statistics for your high school psychology essay I was doing my best susan, okay?

I mean, just because it comes from there doesn't mean everyone is watching it. It is certainly a larger percentage than in other countries, but by no means all.
No, it's "úh-ni-me." For this word, you want to put an accent on the “u.” I was born and raised in Japan and I still live there but I've never heard such his pronunciation.
Actually words like those are Japanese words falling under the category of katakana. Example in English we have words like Rucksack for bag, originally a German word (but pronounced v differently like the television televi thing)
Finally a tiktoker impersonating a girl without just putting a towel on their head lmao Edit: I- bruh why are yall so upset all I was saying is that it's nice to see someone putting a little effort into their videos tf lmao
Fun fact: People from other countries are still people, instead of going up and asking people if they like anime with any pronunciation, mind ya damn business
Fun fact: The Japanese language lend the word animation from the English language and then the English language lend it back so there are people who pronounce the Japanese way: *Uh-ni-mē* and some pronounce it the English way: *Anime*
In my experience this is what happens. I'm bilingual and have a Latin accents and people (usually monolingual Anglo Americans) will comment on my accent or mock it. Most will attempt to correct my accent even if my pronunciation is fine.
You know many words come from germany and its kinda anoying when americans say stiuhl or änemey. But hey japanese ppl have a very similar acent we both call it anime ...

i couldn’t even imagine walking up to a random stranger in a country that isn’t known to speak english as a widespread language and just asking about anime, also it seems very offensive
Mmm There are things called accents We, at least I as an American, if a Japanese person pronounces something wrong in English, it's not the end of the world.
Japanese has exactly one way to pronounce anything. Sounding out a word is the same as spelling it. English is different because a character has more than one pronunciation. Notice, if you would be so kind, that different dialects of Japanese all pronounce the words the same, something that is not true of different dialects of english
The reason people (mainly English speakers) call it “enimay”/“ennmay” is because of their accents, they grew up knowing and pronouncing the letter A like Ehy. In my language, we pronounce A as Ah, like most of the other languages, so everyone in my country pronounces anime correctly but it’s all about the mother tongue. However, trying to pronounce Japanese words correctly is better
me as an Balkan: finally someone told english speaking people how to pronounce anime lmao guys i am from the southern Balkan so i understand your comment
I’ve been speaking English but kept pronouncing like the way he said it Ppl were always correcting me and saying that I’m saying it wrong so they would always correct me😭
Anime isn't a cartoon its Japanese animation and if you've ever seen one You'd know that it's not for litte kids. If you haven't watched any anime just watch the first episode of Devilman crybaby I'm sure it'll change your mind and possibly traumatize you :)
as much as you shouldn't ask random japanese strangers if they like anime, if it comes up in conversation, they'll probably be weirded out if you bust into perfect japanese pronunciation
I don't know if this is just for Japanese or every language, but if it's every language, my brother learned enough Mandarin Chinese in 6 months that a blind guy he was talking to didn't believe us when we told him my brother is American
@@88gig that’s assuming that you already know and speak Japanese well but the commenter said if you randomly bust out with perfect pronunciation for most likely only that one word and the rest is either English or really broken Japanese with a heavy accent
I feel like English is one of the few languages that changes how vowels are pronounce. I mean, Spanish, italian, portuguese, german, I think we all pronounce the a,e,i like "a" "e" "i", while English say "ei", "i", "ai". So a lot of us already said "anime" like in japanese
People in America with accents Americans: yup they have an accent but that's okay I can understand them and it's kind of cute. *Other countries after you slightly mispronounce one syllable barely* "We have no idea what you are saying in the slightest, get it right"
yes, i will definitely go to japan and ask random people on the street “do you watch anime” i will definitely do that edit: WHEN DID THIS GET 750 LIKES WTH edit 2: give me an answer to why this comment has 1.4K likes
yeah i would only recommend doing this to your english speaking friends cus in english it’s grammatically correct to say an i me instead or un i me and the opposite for when speaking japanese but i’m pretty sure native speakers will still understand you regardless but just like in spanish you change hello to hola you should do the same in japanese especially since it will flow better
As a native Japanese speaker he also pronounced it wrong, with an American accent. His knowledge is good but it sounds much different in native tounge.

i couldn’t even imagine walking up to a random stranger in a country that isn’t known to speak english as a widespread language and just asking about anime, also it seems very offensive
Bcz you're at Japan lol
Mmm
There are things called accents
We, at least I as an American, if a Japanese person pronounces something wrong in English, it's not the end of the world.
I don't know what to say other than general agreement so
Overdose on crack cocaine
English lockdown japanese accnt LOOCK DOWWWWWNNN
Japanese has exactly one way to pronounce anything. Sounding out a word is the same as spelling it. English is different because a character has more than one pronunciation. Notice, if you would be so kind, that different dialects of Japanese all pronounce the words the same, something that is not true of different dialects of english
@@HTFFanOfFlaky umm? We are not talking about this ? We are talking that if u are from a diffrent area u cannot say words with same accent .

"Ahnnie may" gotcha 🤠
Any may
In Indonesia we can pronounce it with our real accent and somehow the pronounce between my country with japan is same lol 😂

Ya, I'm 100% sure mispronunciation is the most embarrassing moment in the life of someone who asks strangers to watch cartoons with them
Ehhm hello?
You do realize thay you are attacking a whole generation of degenerate weebs, right?
@@roomtemperatureones63 yes and it's good for one's health
Anime is how you say it in English. This video is just so dumb. When you say the word french in English you don't pronounce it française, do you?
Anime isn't a cartoon its Japanese animation and if you've ever seen one You'd know that it's not for litte kids. If you haven't watched any anime just watch the first episode of Devilman crybaby I'm sure it'll change your mind and possibly traumatize you :)
@@アートデビル stfu, cartoons aren’t only for kids either. Anime literally just means animation. Heck, Spongebob counts as an anime in Japan.
as much as you shouldn't ask random japanese strangers if they like anime, if it comes up in conversation, they'll probably be weirded out if you bust into perfect japanese pronunciation
I don't know if this is just for Japanese or every language, but if it's every language, my brother learned enough Mandarin Chinese in 6 months that a blind guy he was talking to didn't believe us when we told him my brother is American
@@HTFFanOfFlaky Hahaha! How did he do it?
I'm confident that they'll be more impressed than weirded out if you know how to speak Japanese right
@@88gig that’s assuming that you already know and speak Japanese well but the commenter said if you randomly bust out with perfect pronunciation for most likely only that one word and the rest is either English or really broken Japanese with a heavy accent

I feel like English is one of the few languages that changes how vowels are pronounce. I mean, Spanish, italian, portuguese, german, I think we all pronounce the a,e,i like "a" "e" "i", while English say "ei", "i", "ai". So a lot of us already said "anime" like in japanese
Ikr, pronouncing Japanese words it's pretty easy since the sounds are the same

Americans: yup they have an accent but that's okay I can understand them and it's kind of cute.
*Other countries after you slightly mispronounce one syllable barely*
