  • Performance at the DB vs Knox Bearden football game at halftime.
One voice over that you will hear in this performance is near the end. I did not recognize the voice so I tried looking up the words and was pointed to a 1940 movie entitled "The Great Dictator" and Charlie Chaplin is the one speaking. The movie was made while the US was still on good terms with Germany and was intended to inform the American people about Hitler's true nature. Chaplin is playing the part of a Jewish man that was persecuted by the Nazis before WW2 . The Jewish character was mistaken for Hitler (they looked alike) and was asked to give a speech, as Hitler. But the speech he gave was his own - how he believed which was opposed to Hitler. Chaplin did the movie as a way to wake up the American people to the true nature of Hitler - thus his verse to added to the grand chorus. Don't get confused about this. The way the words are used in the DB performance leaves a lot of room for misinterpretation. Chaplin was definitely not attempting to glorify Hitler. There is a slight tinge of leftist ideology however.
