I think he won't scare off regular viewers. After all this is pretty much a tech channel, if he's machining or explaining probably doesn't matter that much to us. The only difference is that the explanation videos lack sick time lapse music 🤘 Overall views mainly depend on the title and thumbnail of the video. That's what get's random viewers, which in turn exites the algorithm which in turn gives you more random viewers again and so on...
Rule #1 - Only take advice from people that have done/learnt & have proven results from their years of hard work. Well done. Your videos like these are far ahead of most the stuff you see on TH-cam.

I learned everything you are talking about here back in 1996 when I bought my Buick Grand National T-Type. On street tires I could launch at 5 psi, around 3000 rpm. Go over that, I would blow my tires off and I would be throttling for a quarter mile doing the G-Body shuffle! 😅

You deserve props for letting us in, and giving away your hard earned knowledge you have acquired over your career.. 30yrs ago, I was 15, and got my first job in a hot rod shop working for an alcoholic ass hole.. He was always mad, and there was literally nothing I could do to please the guy, and I wouldn't dare ask a question, I had to learn by watching and staying the FUCK out of HIS WAY!! I had learned a lot from my grandpa, but that asshole did teach me to machine a lot of parts, deck heads, blocks, grind & lap valves, cut and replace seats, build heads, pressure test & magnaflux, Learned to correctly measure & bore to spec, and hone to finish, which was a workout, as his wasn't automated, you had to manually lift it up and down.. I only did all this cuz I wanted to learn so bad, and it wasn't as easy as getting on the internet like it is today.. Kids these days have no idea how lucky they are to have Amazingly Talented Individuals like you giving us this content, it was nearly unobtainable only 20-30yrs ago.. But the only bad thing, we have raised a generation of kids that seem to enjoy living their lives through others instead of putting forth the work to enjoy their own life.. Kinda sad how awesome things can also ruin the ones who don't have structure, discipline, or upbringing that makes them Enjoy Working Hard & Completing Nearly Any Task. No Matter What it may be, as doing so is SO REWARDING TO MY SOUL..
As the son of an engineer who works in IT professionally, I really enjoy the technical videos. I turbocharged my first car in 1985 having no idea what I was doing. A 1978 BMW 320i with a kit that I bought out of a back of a magazine. If I had nearly immediately crashed the car, the kit probably would have destroyed the motor in short order, but it worked real well for a little while until I hit a dirt bank about 80 miles an hour.
This is incredibly interesting, this is the kind of quality information explained in an intelligent way that I’ve been looking for forever. No body puts in the effort to talk about the nitty gritty. I love it
Your tech vids are the only reason I watch. There's tons of guys that produce "car entertainment" videos. There's VERY few that make actually useful content. And even fewer guys are competent or successful enough to warrant My attention. Those (like You Pete) are the voices a lot of us seek out..

The idiosyncrasies of turbos can definitely be complicating. With big changes in DA you can't even get up on the 2-step like what I saw with Garrett at Bandimere. Depending on your launch RPM you can have a similar issue. Cool to see this in detail. Thankfully it is a lot easier to figure out these days for the most part.
I remember when we worked with one of the 1st haltechs in the late 80s, haltech f3, had a radio shack laptop, and the screen was just a bar graph and did fuel only, locked out the distributor at 28 degrees and that was it. The basic components of the turbo system havent changed just now we have a sensor for everything, need one to weigh the driver also. Lol. But what you are saying makes so much sense, the consistency of starting line launch. Before transbrake and your right foot, now 2 step, co2 controls, ignition timing, and boost ramp.
Pete, I enjoy your music on your channel and noticed you're using Cubase from your desktop icon. I've been an audio engineer recording and mixing bands for around 30 years now (yes I'm old). So, if you're ever in a pinch for time or need a little help working on a project/song drop me a line. I can accommodate Cubase or about any DAW. And, I love the tech videos and your original music. So refreshing to see someone who takes the time to create and share original music in their content.
I'm very interested in what you have to say about this. I am kinda out in the wilderness here....I don't really have any musician friends who can help me with this or even anyone I can bounce ideas off of. So many want an "album' or spotify option from me, but I don't have any idea what's involved in that. I work from the top down and know zero about mastering, etc. I have terrible problems with latency when using microphones on vocals or horns. All kinds of technical issues that I just have to come up with work arounds for. It would be nice to have someone to consult with occasionally.
@@realgoodatdoinstuff900 It's not terribly difficult to get your music on the streaming services. Probably the easiest way is to use one of the publishing services like Distro Kid or CDBaby. Latency issues can be tricky, and a lot of it depends upon the PC, DAW, and audio interface you're using. It gets pretty technical quickly when sorting out latency in some scenarios, but typically it's a matter of understanding buffer sizes and how each DAW handles latency compensation. I'm not sure how to get in contact, but I'd be happy to discuss your issues.

Go to a College or a School of Course’s that you can negotiate a bit of bargaining with. They help you with the Imaging & Display aspects… Tech the tech segment…. You can fix anything they got that’s broken. As, “Your Real Good At Fixin’ Stuff”

Some people be shocked to find out pulling too much timing on a turbo car in good air actually makes mo power. Something something compressor not being directly connected to the crank and the relaxed timing energizing the exhaust to the turbine.
It's always crazy to me how many people show up at the track with a car not ready to make a pass! I get doing normal between rounds maintenance and things like plug checks, but not having a car that runs properly in the first place is baffling!
I might not be the norm but I like tech videos and learning. I won't watch certain TH-camr because all they seem to do it want to break or ruin things most people would love to have
You have casual observers and those who are here to learn. Although there are fewer veiwer of tech videos, the people who do take the time to watch are here to learn and are getting invaluable information from you.
I Could definitely see where shaft speed and boost pressure in a log would be very beneficial, especially if you have barometric pressure, temp and humidity data with it. Talk about building a tune table for just about any condition! No more guesses on tune up after you have enough data. There's probably an easier way of doing this though....
I want a blown SBC with a clutch like in mad max, twin carbed. NO PUTER to mess with and sensors to fail, no injectors to fail and torch the motor. EGT and a AFR meter. simple shit. Time it by the PLUG readings and jet the carbs progressive for the rpm boost . ya know the drill. Old school stuff. dependable and reliable..
First, I don’t know shit bout turbo systems. Think doing a series on turbo related tuning is a great thing. Also think doing a full explanation with schematics, definitions, and explanations of function and interactions of components, would take your lessons over the top. Getting everyone on the same sheet,as to what’s happening and not happening, to connect / manage the abstract of the two sides of the turbo, would take out much of the unintended shittalking, and circular arguments, in the conversation. I don’t quite understand why so many drag racers focus so much on dome pressure. It’s good know what the dome pressure is but manifold pressure is what matters at the end of the day. I can look at the closed loop boost solenoid duty and tell you how good or bad the air is, I’ll add some boost with a modifier if closed loop boost duty is more than a certain amount higher than the base table.

Its all too common to see someone struggling with boost creep because they've just slapped a gate on the side of a manifold with no thought about prioritizing exhaust flow to the gate

So here is something most people don't get about turbocharging, your not trying to build the engine for most peak NA HP and slapping on a turbo, your trying to build a engine that has good responsiveness to the throttle, boost pressure and the RP M range in which the turbo operates most efficiently for the displacement it's under. it becomes very critical to engineer the engine as part of the turbo package for restricted classes.

So here is something most people don't get about turbocharging, your not trying to build the engine for most peak NA HP and slapping on a turbo, your trying to build a engine that has good responsiveness to the throttle, boost pressure and the RP M range in which the turbo operates most efficiently for the displacement it's under. it becomes very critical to engineer the engine as part of the turbo package for restricted classes.

Holley using fuel flow in the ve map confused me at first. But with a wideband you can calculate airflow pretty well.

it would also be cool to see the tuning break down of round to round from an event. if cleetus gets you to send him tunes you can explain how you read the results to make improvements and win the event!
