- Set Apart
Romans 1:1-15
This passage is known as the prologue of this letter. In it, Paul identifies himself as a servant of God, called an apostle, and set apart for the Gospel of God (v. 1). He then explains that the Gospel concerns the deity and humanity of the Lord Jesus Christ (vv. 2-4). He also says that grace and the calling to service come from Jesus (vv. 5-6).
The identification of the recipient of this letter was called saints. The believers in Rome were set apart for the gospel (v. 7). Paul thanked God because of the gospel’s growth (vv. 8-10). Paul desired to go to Rome for mutual encouragement between the believers in Rome and himself (vv. 11-15).
The church is set apart for the Gospel. The purposes of being set apart are:
1. To Know Jesus (vv. 1-6).
2. To Make Multiplying Disciples (vv. 8-10).
3. To Edify the Church (vv. 11-15).
a. Edify the Church by Strengthening her through God’s Word (vv. 11-12).
b. Edify the Church by Seeing her Fruitfulness (v. 13).
c. Edify the Church by Sharing the Gospel: Reaching out to the lost and Instructing the believers (vv. 14-15).
Today, you are called to fulfill the purpose of being set apart for the Gospel.
