After much deliberation, I decided to cancel my pledge. I was hemming and hawing because of the exclusives and the near certainty that it will hold its value, or more, so that I can sell it if I don't like the game. But they gameplay seems so lackluster. Minis look great tho but I'm not a painter and they would just stay in a box.
I think people are going to be sorely disappointed with the gameplay in this one, it doesn't look at all exciting. May as well just read a choose your own adventure book
and they are hardly even a feature especially at lower player counts. And what influence is the story? - dont you just select the best symbols for your scoring rather than going for a specific story conclusion?
For me miniaures are bad, like rly rly bad. Allmost every them. Ciri pose is bad, geralt too, vesemir look like drunk man who allmost collapse. Standees and art on player boards looks much better.
This looks like it'd be a welcome rules-light game compared to recent one's I've been getting to table. I don't have anything *deliberately* in the Dec '24 pipeline. Thank you for the wrap-up overview. I've rewatched it a couple times to get me off the fence.
I wasn’t going to pledge either. Locked day 1 bonus, but didn’t really get excited on this card game. Cancelled this, but found Mons and Mages for the card game itch instead.
I was in on the initial hype, but everything I've seen on the gameplay is decidely meh. Ronin was the last straw, dropped my pledge immediately because it just shows a lack of focus to me. Lack of focus and gameplay that doesn't excite me = wait for retail.
I agree on the con side, at some point the excitement will go off because the winner side can be determined early, I really hope they implement some game changing mechanics that heavily impact the current progress of the game session, otherwise the tales will be boring to play them again.
I don't mind a tableau builder but how are you going to make a Witcher game without any type of combat ? No monster hunting ? Beautiful looking game though but this is a easy pass for me
How the card mechanics and the idea of race between characters supports storytelling? What story players tell when comboing and playing cards? The story cards are written to evoke a storytelling game, then came the gameplay part and i dont see any mechanic further supporting the storytelling. This looks like 2 games glued together with no connection, or am i wrong?
I backed the deluxe purely for the minis. The game looks OK, but not amazing. It may or may not get played, but the minis will get painted and go in my display cabinet with my Old World minis.
Thank you for that, that was incredible helpful! I don't think I will love the gameplay, my play group is in generell not a fan of competitiv games (so I would play this solo or only the coop expansion in a group, witch doesn't sound ideal). So, great IP or not, I really should let this go. It's just a bit sad seeing all this great Witcher stuff and seeing a board game with a great IP that you can actually get on the table in reasonable set up and play time. But I won't really get anything out of it, if I won't play it, right?
With the first turn example you showed one of the things I think is a major concern regarding this game, which is not having any relevant cards to play because you're just stuck with irrelevant symbols
Game looks beautiful but I just don't see myself or my gamegroup enjoying the gameplay. It looks thematic but matching symbols and card combo with a lot of cool art just probably isnt going to do it for me unfortunately.
honestly, what are the minis good for? you place them three times on a space next to the cards you draw. that´s it? i was kind of disappointed by "the old world", which i went all in on... and after watching this video, i am sure "path of destiny" is a very shallow game with a lot of nice minis to cover it up. thanks for the video, but no thanks to go on board.
Go on boards game strives on the IP, but the gameplay is just meh....especially taking in the price factor. I regret my all-in pledge on old world and I'm passing on this one.
I am so tired of Witcher games being competitive! I mean come on for Christ sakes lol. Three Witcher board games now use the same competitive system with all these characters who actually have a common goal in all Witcher media looool. I am so baffled that the devs of all of those massive games can't seem to grasp this aspect and just make the games fully cooperative!!!
I love the Witcher universe and the production GOB does (Old World is my Game of the Year) but the gameplay just isn't doing it for me :(

I'm still on the fence the miniatures look nice but I'm not convinced by the game behind it.

I canceled my Pledge, gameplay looks boring
I wasn’t going to pledge either. Locked day 1 bonus, but didn’t really get excited on this card game. Cancelled this, but found Mons and Mages for the card game itch instead.
Same, it just doesn't look fun 🤷♂️
Doing the same, it is pure milking of the IP. Great minies without purpose in a low replayability game.
Same. It does not feel like it gives that moments that makes you talk about it after it’s just dull

Thanks the review. Like many others in the comments it helped me to figure out that this game isn’t for me.
Thks for the clear explanation. I jumped in just because I love the Witcher. But this isn't for me so I canceled it.
This was a good review, you convinced me to cancel my pledge. It’s just not for me, but will be fun for many others.
While this is probably good info to know, i already backed it. It had a dwarf you cant stop me

“I should have spared you the reading” 🤣 I laughed so hard!
I don't mind a tableau builder but how are you going to make a Witcher game without any type of combat ? No monster hunting ? Beautiful looking game though but this is a easy pass for me
Sounds like you should play Witcher: Old world, this one is more about the story/decisions in the books :)
I was lucky to find a copy of dogs of war two years ago and love it
Yes what an excellent game that nobody talks about.
"You are the story" reflects to Spirit Fire
Sticking with Gameplay all-in for now. Extra tales add different mechanics and expansions add variety. Will wait to see your back or not to back.

What happened to all the prototype games? Do you keep them or do you have to return them to the publishers?
Return, send on, trash and every once in awhile keep.

For the minis? Thats new, they looks bad. I mean art on player boards and standees are much better. Figures pose are weird.
Wow, its like playing quests in the videogame… looks quite boring to be honest 😂
OMG. This is such a boring game ZZzzz.... I would rather read the books. Glad I cancelled my pledge.
Very helpful review. Thank you!

Good review, helped me make a decision
thank you for this video. The gameplay is ssooo boring. I unpledged
I watched a 2P gameplay a bit and then happily cancelled my pledge.
Magnifique, board game.
Go on boards game strives on the IP, but the gameplay is just meh....especially taking in the price factor. I regret my all-in pledge on old world and I'm passing on this one.
Just pledged, after watching this no combat.... Its like kings dilenma but very very basic. Im thinking nooo
Enjoy it!
Id stay with The Wither Old World ... this one looks kinda boring ngl.
