எனது பெரியம்மா மகன், அவருக்கு ஒரு பையன் ஒரே ஒரு பையன். வயது 35 ஆனால் இன்றுவரை உட்காரக் கூட முடியாது தலை நிற்காது. படுக்கையே கதி. ஆட்டிசம் என்ற பாதிப்பால் 30 வயதிலும் குழந்தை போல் இருக்கும் அவனைப் பார்த்தால் எனது அண்ணனையும் அண்ணியையும் கோவில் கட்டிக் கும்பிடத் தோன்றும். மனதில் எவ்வளவு கனம் இருக்கிறதோ தெரியாது ஆனால் புன்னகையால் அதை மறைத்துக் கொண்டு நம்மோடு பேசுவார்கள். வேறு குழந்தையும் இல்லை. அந்த 35 வயது குழந்தையை அவர்கள் தாங்கோ தாங்கு என்று தாங்கும் போது பார்த்தால் கல்லும் கரைந்து விடும்.
It is sad that the show does not accept that it is a woman’s right to decide what to do with her body.
It is definitely a woman’s right as long as society forces a woman to be the child’s primary caretaker. It’s very easy to sit here and blame a woman for not trying hard enough.
Let’s build a society where women get enough maternal leave. Where she gets sufficient support to raise a child. Where education and medical facilities are easily affordable. Where workplaces provide daycares. Where a woman doesn’t get excluded out of her job or PhD etc simply because of having a child.
In THAT world, yes it’s no longer solely a woman’s right to decide what to do with her body.
Even alot of people from Western countries ,who generally think of themselves as progressive , are not pro choice. They don't see that pro life is also a choice. So I'm not surprised here. This is a country that downplays the horror and refers to sexual harassment as "eve teasing". So, it's far fetched to expect them to have this view. Women are still seen as commodity in India.

If abortion is woman's choice and can happen for any reason, then father should have the choice to say whether or not he will provide for the baby(before its born) and female foeticide should be legalised

Veeranganai explains her situation at35:20 and then at47:00 explains clearly what others do to parents of special kids--the free advice, especially unproven (and unsolicited) suggestions on what the parent should do. Lots of things are easy to say but very hard for the parent to live it--every DAY, every MINUTE.
Shaji's view is fantastic. This is what one should hold in their heart if a difficult situation happens after the child is born.
I'm still with Veeranganai that IF one knows full well that the fetus is going to be born as a mentally challenged child, the decision has to come from the mother--whatever she does is the right decision, it's easy as well as improper to advise the woman on such matters. Mr. Manian's comparison is fundamentally wrong, the fetus is not a living thing (for example, it cannot survive outside the womb).

Wow. Seriously? If this show wanted to speak about the rights of special children, they must have did just that. Comparing abortion (in general) with this topic only reinforces the misconception that a woman shouldn't claim rights over her own body. The guest speaker even mentioned that directly at one point.
If the fetus (not child but fetus) has a right to survive, a woman also has a right to thrive. You can't expect someone to live in misery for the rest of her life. What if it was an accidental or unwanted pregnancy? What about rape vitcims? What about marrital rape? If you claim that a woman has no say in abortion, then you (directly/indirectly) solicit that the above said crimes are legal and ethical.

It's usually 12 weeks...in Europe, if its more than 12, it's a big risk and needs special consent from doctors and special circumstances.
