    I'm from the UK and dont really get to see women grafting like this...not sure what its like in America but there isnt many women in manual work like this in the UK so its absolutely amazing to see!
    I'm a Carpenter/Joiner by trade and now assess and Lecture, iv tried just about everything timber wise other than wood turning. I would absolutely love a lesson from Ashley on wood turning, although I teach people myself I think I'd make a good student 😄
    Nice work Ashley! Keep it up...love your work! 👍

    Hi Ashley. I have built many floors and never installed blocking. Once the subfloor is fastened to the joists, the joists don't move. I also use glue and screws to fasten the subfloor to the joists. Best regards.

      Always use blocking its good practice to stop joists from buckling as they dry out.

      The blocking also works as a bridge and makes the floor stronger by sharing the load from one joist to another.

      It doesn't take an expert to know that you should have some support in the middle of a long span or that a concrete pier will sink into the dirt over time.

    Very nice looking structure and, I am sure it is stout but, did you all discuss anchoring it? Wind shear and uplift can be problematic. Maybe I'm paranoid but when I built my humble little shed, I put 180 lbs of concrete in each 4' deep post hole.

    As numerous people worldwide have pointed out, you have a dubious foundation for somebody building in a hurricane zone. The next Hurricane Hugo may well decide you put the shed in the wrong place and kindly move it over to where it thinks it belongs. Since you are already this far along, why not at least treat it as a mobile home in your area, and put in ground anchors and strapping?

    Following grain direction with plywood is not that important, the layers are all perpendicular to each other anyways. Just lay it in the direction that spans the largest number of joists. Staggering the joints is important though.

    • @bs838
      @bs838 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      lol i was really surprised to hear that guy saying that grain direction in plywood actually gives it rigidity. that comment combined with the fact that there was no real site prep, no ground cover, no anchoring, no center floor supports....i could go on...really confirmed that Ashley might have hired the wrong guy for the job. Sorry to be a negative nancy but it's true.

I guess the ground doesn't move much there as the concrete blocks were just sitting on top of the ground. Also, bolting to the side of the upright is not load path to ground. I could watch you, watch paint dry. The shed is a nice variation. Looking forward to upcoming episodes.

    My computer doesn't always notify me when my battery level is low, so I don't know to turn on the power strip where the charged is plugged in. At 15:42 when the screen went black, I thought my battery had died and I was about to say a few choice words because my computer takes a while to reboot, and then the video continued. Don't do that!
    I want to build a shed to use as my woodworking shop, but since we'll hopefully be moving in the next year or so, I think I'll wait. Besides, any sheds build in my area need to It's not something that we can take with us, nor is it something I want to do more than once at my age and physical limitations, so if the house we move to doesn't have a detached building or a large shed, I will build it then.

    Pro tip: Don't shoot the cement-coated nails through your foot. The aftermath kinda sucks.

    Peter Gabriel has nothing on you. Has anyone seen the 4/26 DIResta Mallet video? He's a unique wood turner!

    Janky post to beam connections...Use 6x and notch for double bands. Also why not use screws for your bracing?

      Nails have a much better load rating than screws.

    • @mascmc1001
      @mascmc1001 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheWoodHaven They sure do. Braces are temporary and are not bearing much of a load that would snap a screw off so why not use them and make your life easier? Or just shoot the braces with a gun instead of being a goofball and hand driving your bracing....

    to each his own, but that floor needs more foundation. Too much span even though you are using 2x8 joist. A building is only as good as the foundation it is sitting on. Would not have cost much more money to make this floor solid as a rock. JS

      Jerry Hubbard totally agree. We regret we did not do so for something we built.
